SHERRI SHEPHERD LOSES A BABY GIRL BUT GAINS A BABY BOY

Submitted by blackcelebritykids on February 13, 2008 at 1:08 am 4 Comments

The View’s co-host Sherri Shepherd shares in an interview with Entertainment Tonight her struggles to conceive her first born child. Sherri talks of her difficulties in trying to conceive naturally:

“It was hard because you go through guilt that something is wrong with you, or maybe you waited too long,” she says. “It was a lot of shots, a lot of false pregnancies, and a lot of tears.”

After many false pregnancies and tears,  Sherri and then husband Jeff Tarpley were able to conceive twins with the help of fertility treatments. The happiness didn’t last for long. Just a few weeks later,Sherri miscarried one of the twins,a baby girl. Just when she thought it couldn’t get worse,Sherri went into early labor and delivered her other twin,a son by the name of Jeffrey:

“He was very premature, born with severe brain bleeding on both sides,” she says. “He also had a hole in an artery near his heart and in his intestine. He weighed one pound, ten ounces and the doctors predicted that he would have severe cerebral palsy. We thought we were going to lose him.”

Through  all the heart monitors,Intensive Care Unit trips, and oxygen tanks,Sherri was able to find happiness again:

“There was one point where I thought I would never get on stage and make people laugh again. I thought I would never smile again.”

Today Jeffrey is a happy and healthy boy. “He has no cerebral palsy, his brain functions, but he’s just slower in learning. He’s our little miracle, except when he’s having a tantrum, then the miracle flies out the window!”
