Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics lead a victorious win against the Los Angeles Lakers. Ray is pictured with his son after defeating the Lakers in Game Six of the 2008 NBA Finals on June 17, 2008.Ray and his wife Shannon Walker Williams(pictured below) have three children, 17-month old Walker, his daughter Tierra, a high school freshman, and a son named Ray III.However,it is his 17-month-old son Walker, recently diagnosed with diabetes, who has made the Celtics’ win a poignant one:

As he stood on the podium after the Celtics won the NBA title, Ray Allen held his 17-month-old son, Walker. It was a poignant moment for Allen. He spent the past three days tending to his toddler son, who was diagnosed with diabetes while the Celtics were in Los Angeles.Allen was with his son in an L.A. hospital Sunday, before struggling in a Game 5 loss.
“It was tough,” Allen said. “I can truly say my mind wasn’t in the game.”
Allen spent Monday with his son and flew to Boston overnight, arriving early Tuesday morning. Walker was feeling better and Allen was in the starting lineup for Game 6.
He wound up with 26 points and seven three-pointers, culminating a dizzying day.

“It’s such a wonderful feeling to be able to do this on this night,” Allen said. “All of us are pretty speechless.”

It matters when its done disproportionately, i.e. black males marrying white women especially when they become successful. It also matters because of our history of blacks, i.e. black women being judged on a white standard of beauty. So to me it sends a message to society that our black men believe this as well, which is sad, It’s like in order to have a “trophy” wife, she has to be white, or dang close!!!

    • Glen March 16, 2011 at 8:30 am

Well, if you are marrying someone to be a trophy wife, you obviously are marrying them for the wrong reasons. Do you really think that someone like Ray Allen cares whether his wife is white or black? What does that say about white women? That they aren’t as strong as a black woman?? What if Shannon picked Ray to be her husband because he is black?? Wait a minute, that’s right. According to a lot of these negative posts, the “Black” man is the one choosing the white woman. Stop living in the past people. Ignore the racist/bigot people who are white, black, whatever it may be. I don’t subscribe to the “white or black standard of beauty”.
Besides, the article was about the Celtics winning with Ray Allen’s son being the inspiration for the team, not the Celtics winning and Ray Allen’s mixed son from his half-white wife has diabetes.

What does it matter if she’s black or white this wasn’t about his wife this was about his son Walker and winning the championship ppl please get a life. White ppl marry black ppl everyday this is old and tiring some of u really need to grow up!!

  • cape verdean May 30, 2010 at 12:46 am

  • daemon March 2, 2010 at 4:29 pm

My parents taught me that speculation about anyone’s racial background is at best ill-mannered.
Sadly, several of the postings about race on this forum are mean-spirited rather than celebratory.

Shannon comes from a loving and supporting family.
Her dad is caucasian; her mom is Portuguese and Afro-Caribbean.
We wish Shannon Walker Williams and Ray Allen, and their families, all the best.

Life is brief, and everyone carries a burden; we would all do better to help, rather than disparage, one another.

    • cape verdean July 28, 2010 at 12:08 pm

ah, last i knew shannon’s mom is cape verdean…hello…cape verdeans are black not portuguese.

  • katiej December 16, 2009 at 6:10 pm

actually shannon is half black half white…and it shouldn’t matter…love is love

  • fat mack January 16, 2009 at 9:31 am

what is yall talking about she is fine.

  • to November 7, 2008 at 9:36 pm

MRA ,Thats kind of racist. She could be a strong woman. You only say that because she is not black.

  • ms.ray allen October 11, 2008 at 3:23 am

oh i almost 4 got tj u is so damn right he needs someone who is strong and black noy caucasian [or however u spell it] 2 stand b-hinde him and not no body like SHANNON “ALLEN”

    • cape verdean June 2, 2010 at 6:11 pm

shannon for your information is half black. her mom is black her dad is white. she is a very strong black woman who relates more so to her black roots.

  • ms.ray allen October 11, 2008 at 3:19 am

  • mike August 23, 2008 at 12:52 am

Katrina, I don’t know what pic. you looking at but she is a light skinned sister.

  • kee August 21, 2008 at 2:24 pm

I agree TJ!! It would be nice to see a strong black woman behind a strong black man.

  • tj August 20, 2008 at 8:08 pm

I did like Ray until this. What is it with these black guys getting married to someone other than a black woman. This is why the black ethnic group cannot get ahead as a whole.

  • kawanna June 25, 2008 at 7:28 pm

  • Tash June 19, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Ray Allen’s my favorite basketball player. I’m extremely happy for him and the rest of the Celtics. I’ve been a huge fan since his days at UCON. I can’t wait until the season starts again. The last game I attended he said hello to me and posed for one of my pictures, so next season I’m going for an autograph.

  • inmyopine June 18, 2008 at 10:31 pm
