BERNIE MAC DIES, LEAVES BEHIND DAUGHTER,WIFE,GRANDCHILD
Comedian Bernie Mac died this morning in Chicago:
Bernie Mac, the actor and comedian who teamed up in the casino heist caper “Ocean’s Eleven” and gained a prestigious Peabody Award for his sitcom “The Bernie Mac Show,” died Saturday at age 50.
“Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital,” his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles.
She said no other details were available and asked that his family’s privacy be respected.
The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.
Mac is survived by his wife Rhonda McCullough, their daughter, Je’Niece, a son-in-law Tre and a granddaughter, Jasmine.

Unbelievable. I just found out a couple minutes ago. He was so funny. RIP Bernie. I knew he had fallen ill recently, but I thought he’d be able to recover. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I still can’t believe it. I am shocked. We loved Bernie. He was so funny. He lost was so sudden. Although I am seeing it with my own eyes I still can’t believe it. My sister in law went to Xavier with his daughter. Before that I didn’t even know he had a child. His daughter and family are beautiful.

How sad that Mac’s last mention in the public sphere concerned the “inappropriate” comments he made at a July fundraiser for Obama. Of course, our boy Obama denounced the comments, adding Mac to a growing list of Black men being played for political profit(Farrakhan, Rev. Wright, J. Jack). I’m curious – do yall think Obama’s constant repudiation of his friends’ words have just been smart politics or do you think there’s anything deeper here?

Thank you for the laughs and most importantly keeping it true to your roots. You can be an example to many young blacks in the industry because you didn’t let holly wood change you. I am so blessed to have been able to see your stand up comedy routine in person three times. You are truly a comedic genius!! My prayers are with your family. I don’t want to say that you died too young because we do not make the blueprints for our lives. We never know when our time may come. I think that with all of the terrible things going on in the world around us, GOD needed you to come home and give him a laugh to lift his spirits!

I was at a loss for words when it came over the 1010wins News Station. Bernie was the only comedian that I felt I could have my son watch on TV. His familymam portrayal was adorable! My son keeps saying, “Mommy, I feel like Bernie Mac was somebody that we knew…like a family friend. I can’t believe it.”

I’m at a lost for words.BERNIE is someone who could make me LAUGH even when I didn’t want to. Threw all of the JOKES he told and the FUNNY things he did, I could see through him and see this BEAUTIFUL, GENTLE PERSON that LOVES his FAMILY DEARLY. You may not notice that I’m talking in the present. That’s because to me he’ll always be here, making me BUST a GUT and LAUGHING OUT LOUD!
To THE FAMILY, when ever you have days where you don’t know if you’ll make it through, just remember that GOD is there for you to LEAN on as LONG as you NEED TO. ONLY GOD KNOWS WHY.

When I heard the news I felt a deep sadness as if I’d known him personally. Bernie was one of the greatest comedy icons of all time, there will never be another who can give what he gave. One of my fondest memories will be how he truly explained to the world the words that black people of our era in Chicago used to communicate with each other. That motherf*****! I loved him

Bernie Mac is one of my most favorite entertainers and I was so sad when I found out about this. What a shock. I have been a fan going all the way back to the ‘black comedies’ of the 1990s where he always stole the show. House Party 3 Whaaaaaat!!

I was also saddened to learn of Bernie Mac’s death over the weekend. My mother and I use to reguarly watch his show. Although I was aware of his recent hospitalization, as well as the internet rumors of his failing health, I was still taken aback when I heard of his death. My condolences to his family. He was only fifty! I still can’t believe it. I was also shocked to learn of Isaac Hayes death. Rest in peace to both.
