MICHAEL JORDAN’S SON EARNS SCHOLARSHIP

Tuesday, Jan 27 , 2009 12:49:pm by admin FILED UNDER Uncategorized

Jeffrey Jordan,20, the oldest son of retired NBA MVP Michael Jordan, has earned a scholarship from the University of Illinois. Jeffrey(pictured left) who Jordan turned down offers from smaller Division I programs to walk-on at Illinois last year, has earned a scholarship for the the spring semester.

Jeff’s coach Bruce Webber says,

“He’s proven to us that he belongs,” said Weber. “He’s done a nice job of having a niche and having a role. You saw he could really be a pest on defense…he pushes the ball better than Chester (Frazier) and Demetri (McCamey).

“He’s just a good quality kid, a good team member. We made that decision. We probably should have done it maybe in the first semester. I hope he feels good about it.”

He earned it I am pretty sure he worked hard and practice and played hard to earn that. But I feel there are only so much scholarships and if you got al that money why not let somebody else who doesn’t have the money get it. But he earned it and deserves it.

I’m sorry, but it annoys mean when the children of the wealthy take scholarships. Couldn’t Jordan’s son have earned his spot on the team with the scholarship going to someone who could also play basketball, but couldn’t afford the school.

I think in these hard times that scholarship could have gone to a student whose parents can’t afford to send their child to college. Jordon can afford any college for his son. He didn’t need any help.

I have to agree with the other comments.. happy for him that he did that… but there’s gotta be someone else who really needs it financially.
I think Michael Jordan should step up & do something about that!
Like donate the money to the school or a needy student.

well.. MJ should reimburse the school.. lil romeo got a full ride to USC and he’s not even a good player.. once the school year started master p gave the school back all the money they spent and are gonna spend on him. good job on earning it.. but i’m sure there’s someone else who has more talent and actually needs it.. the school shouldve been more considerate..

I think it’s great that he earned the scholarship, but i don’t think i personally would have accepted it knowing that there are so many others that can’t afford to go to a school like Univ.Ill. It almost seems greedy.

I do agree with the above comments, but I do feel that if he earned it, he earned it. Dont judge him on his fathers career, he is an individual who maybe wanted to earn it his own way.

I agree with the others. we are proud of his accomplishments but other students in need could use that scholarship. since his family is so well off, it would be appropriate for them to give the funds back for other students as Master P did. doing so would not take away from his success and will help others afford a good college education.

I personally feel that MOST athletes don’t deserve ANY money bc all they do is waste it and skip classes but to each his own…I doubt Jordan’s son earned/”deserved” this more than the next kid…there are likely 10 exceptional ball players in the hood that would show out on this kid on the court.

I think people are missing the point. Athletic scholarships aren’t usually need based. Lots of students from wealthy families get them. There are need-based scholarships for other students. He isn’t taking anything away from students who can’t otherwise afford to attend. Plus U of I is a state school so the tuition is relatively low for Illinois residents. I’m pretty sure Jeff could pay his own tuition if he needed to!

One more thing…any student has the opportunity to attend college. Loans are available to ANYONE (look it up. If you really want to go, you should make whatever sacrifice is needed. I hate when people use money as an excuse. People just don’t want to have to pay anything back but one’s education is a pretty important investment. Doctors, lawyers and other professionals take out students loans to get through school all the time. Just look at Michelle and Barack Obama. *end of rant* Peace!

I agree with others, they can AFFORD it. They should let someone less fortunate, have the opportunity. Have a heart.

My spirit is so annoyed at this, they can AFFORD to send their son to any school of their choice. Why not give this apportunity to someone less fortunate. Have a HEART.

I agree with what mostly everyone is saying. His family could afford to send him there, another unwealthy family could’ve used that.

I think the scholarship will be more beneficial if it is given to less fortunate but smart people.

I think if he earned it fair and square then he should be allowed to accept the scholarship like any other student.

He should accept the honor of the scholarship, but decency should rule and the Jordan family should repay the scholarship in the form of a donation.

I think that since he earned the scholarship then he has every right to it. Jeffrey may feel like he accomplished something on his own and may not want his fathers money to go to college with.

I’m absolutely glad the parents are teaching their child the value of hard work! “…if I teach him to fish, he will eat for now on!

The rules don’t change JUST because you have worked your butt off to become more financially successful. Scholarships are given based off of performance and grades NOT financial need. That is what financial aid is for…I am sure that MJ’s son didn’t ask for that! If he earned it then it is his. Lots of you say give it to the kid who can’t afford it? Maybe that kid should have practiced harder!!! People are always jealous of the ones who have become successful. Ever here the term “Hater”? Weather you like it or not…You have to earn your way…Just like MJ can’t magically turn his sons into basketball stars (though I wish he would have been there for them growing up)…they have to earn it…take daddy out the picture and then judge them…then ask yourself should they get the scholarship!

Alright people. Just because someones parents have money doesn’t mean that their obligated to give money to the school. Jeffrey Jordan EARNED that scholarship. Jeffrey is a man of his own, he doesn’t owe anyone anything. Here’s a thought, how about the people that really NEED the money earn their OWN scholarship. All the people claiming that it “makes them sick” are just jealous.

i agree with Laydacris. i understand that easily Michael Jordan could have payed for his son, but i also feel that his son Jeffery earned the scholarship, if the school saw potential in any other hopeful, they would have chose that hopeful, but obviously, the school saw past Jeffery’s father’s “money” and just saw Jeffery’s potential as a basketball player. HE earned it, not his father. so, good for him. :)

I think that he earned the scholarship nfair and square news flash people I’m a recent college grad and if you guys dont know anything about the fafsa.gov go check it out! My mom RN a single parent who sent two kids to college. I couldn’t recieve grants until I had a child my mom is a single parent but she made too much money. So this in turns mean if you have low income you can get grants and etc. so before you go judging look at everything and do your research. Schools dont just give out scholarships people YOU HAVE TO EARN THEM!

To add to that I was a dancer and i receive a scholarship but me and my bestfriend worked our butt’s off to get that. we were determined and we did it!!!!! SO DONT JUDGE him on what his father has. His father worked hard practiced all the time and etc. would you rather him be a slacker because his father has money? Also the government has lots of grants for low income households so that stuff about not being able to afford it is b.s.
