AOKI AND MING STEAL THE SHOW AT IMAGE AWARDS EVENT…MOSTLY AOKI DID
Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons and daughters Ming,9, and Aoki,6, took the stage to accept the Vanguard Award during the 40th NAACP Image Awards held on February 12, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. Looks like Aoki has her mom Kimora Lee Simmons’ spunk.
While on stage, Aoki managed to steal her dad’s hat.

Aoki seems like one of those kids the CRAVES attention all the time!
The Look at me, look at me!! Type of child…
One of those kids who while their parent is having a conversation with another person will squeeze inbetween them and start talking without asking “excuse me, can I ask a question?”
One of those kids that likes to be obnoxious solely to get people to look at them, to laugh, or tell them how cute their “antcs” are.
One of those kids who when people are around the have to be in the room (usually hanging all over their mother or father), not because they REALLY to be with them but b/c they need to be seen…their presence to be know!
**I can’t tell you how many kids like this I’ve had to deal with…and they drive me CRAZY. lol**

I’m going to be judgmental. That display wasn’t cute at all. She was disrespectful and kept interrupting her dad’s speech, etc. I think people excuse her because she’s “cute” but you can tell she has no home training whatsoever. JMO.

Awwww, they are sooo cute! I don’t think Aoki is a brat, just a average 6-year-old! A lot of kids act like that at that age, she’s just outspoken. I like Ming better though, she just always so cool about everything. lol

Charmaine, you echo my sentiment. Not all children act that way (i.e. her sister wasn’t clowning). There are a lot of children that act that way, but it’s up to mom and dad to correct them. Isn’t that what parenting is all about? I mean, even Russ looked a bit annoyed. I also think they get a pass because of how “cute” they are. If it were Ray Ray and Shaniqua’s kid in the store, I wonder how “cute” it would be. Just a thought.

OMG-I am so glad the majority of you all AGREE on how spoiled and rude Aoki acted at the awards show! I was appalled! And them passing that hat back and forth on the stage was ridiculous! And I don’t know why Russell let Aoki hold that award? I was so afraid she was going to drop it…and it looked heavy too! To me its a reflection on Kimora because she is with them most of the time. But I guess she’s so busy courting around and getting pregnant by Djimon Honsou that she doesn’t have time to teach them how to behave in public. They are pretty little girls and I loved the way they were dressed but Aoki thinks the world centers around her and Ming looks very insecure. I believe the nannies and other hired help are letting them do whatever they want. If Kimora doesn’t get a handle on them soon, they could really give her some problems when they get older.

Aoki is very spunky, but doesn’t make her a rude or bad child. Yes Kimora does indulge her children, but if I had her money I would too and so would all you. I think her children are very kind and apathetic to those less fortunate than they are. I have a child that loves the spotlight and craves attention….and trust me, I’m an old school mom who does not spare the rod. My older child is much like Ming-Lee, very quiet and reserved. I have learned that both my children are who they are and I would never dream of trying to break my youngest child’s spirit. I believe that Kimora and Russell do put their foot down when THEY deem necessary. Stop being so harsh and judgmental!

Kimora seems to have a nack for providing a common sense/blissful environment for her children. They have so much confidence which is a lot different from a lot of these rude and offensive rich families and stuff. I like them all.

I like Aoki much better then Ming lee, Akoi is spirited which i like and at that age she may not know where to draw the line but considering the fact she has two loving parents involved in her life I have hope that she will turn out well.

AOKI is a free spirit and i absolutely love when parents encourage expression, freedom of speech and individuality at a young age. It is something that helps children take pride in who they are and not become crowd pleasers or followers in their teen years. HOWEVER, there are lines that should not be crossed by any means necessary, and those lines are: #1-Respect. Number#2-Time and Place. Unfortunately, I don’t think AOKI has been taught that yet. Simply put, Aoki cannot go through life thinking she can say whatever she wants, and act the way she wants just because she is beautiful or rich. I watch Kimora’s show a lot and on many occasions Aoki interrupts adults when they are talking, much like she did during her dad’s speech while he was being honored at the NAACP awards this past week. A summer with Aunt Justine and Uncle Rev. can fix that. lol. They seem to have more TIME to invest in their children and not just money. Aoki knows that she is privileged but hasn’t quite learned the side of humility that is supposed to balance her out. Nonetheless, it will come as she gets older…just look at MING.
SIDE NOTE: I don’t blame kimora because she appears to be a loving mother but at the same time she has to put a little more effort into teaching Aoki how to be a person and not just “pretty”. Often times, we as mothers tell our children, (little girls) that they are princesses and place them on such high horses, allowing them to say what they want and call it cute. I have a biracial four-year-old daughter, (I am african american and her father is white) who already knows she looks different from the rest of her cousins. People tell her she’s pretty quite often and lately I have noticed her become more demanding and began to act out. I QUICKLY nipped that in the bud. I’m pregnant with my second child, another girl, and i am learning that the best gift we can give to society are humble, obedient and well-rounded children because those are the type of children we want running our country someday!

If someone is similiar to yourself; you will feel closer to that person. Kimora thinks her child is adorable because she reminds her of herself. On the other hand, the oldest child is more reserved like her dad. I think parents get accused of having favorites but I don’t think this is exactly the case. Why are you all blaming the child when she is a product of her mom?

I didn’t see the NAACP Image awards, but I’ve seen Kimora’s show. I’m not sure which Aoki you all are talking about- the Aoki Ive seen on television is a very loving, sweet little lady who just happens to be a bit more opinionated and spunky than her older sister. She seems to be more like her mom- where’s the crime in that?? Her and Ming are two different people, why would Aoki act just like Ming? She doesn’t seem bad to me at all- she always says please and thank you, and she’s the only one Ive ever seen chastised on the show, throwing all your hometraining lack theories out the window. Ming is the oldest- the younger siblings usually take more chances and risks. Ming just acts like an oldest- I’m one, I should know. I like Aoki- what you see is what you get. I like Ming too- they’re both very cute little girls with two different personalities- nothing more.
And those who didn’t like her behavior at the Image awards- what did y’all want Russell to do, ream her out right there on stage in front of the studio and home audiences?? Would you do that to your own child, and embarrass her and yourself and sully the proud moment?? They were up there for like a minute or two, it’s not that serious. If he wants to, be can give her a talking to afterward. Take it easy on Aoki, y’all, she’s only six, and she’s FINE.

Commenting on obnoxious behavior is not being judgemental. All children do not behave the way Aoki does…her sister for one! What’s cute at 2,3,4,5 &6 is not so cute at 15. Of course Russell wouldn’t ream her out on stage, but if she’d been disciplined at home, it never would have happened. I know plenty of children who know how to behave in public. There is a HUGE difference in “being a kid” and misbehaving. Aoki was misbehaving.
Allowing your children to be obnoxious and disrespectful is NOT good parenting and only leads to embarassment and heartbreak.

They are cute, but aoki has a real bad attitude. Kimora needs tell her kids there is more out there than just the big and famous. the obama girls know to respect people in authority and people who are less fortunate than they are. And kimora and her kids kind of lack that. Also in the real world there not going to be able to do all that disrespectful stuff they are doing. Kimora is showing her kids attitude and dive behavior will get you pass in this world and it won’t. I know kimora didn’t grow up like the way she is acting noe. Far too many of you on this site seem to be devoid of compassion and REMEMBERANCE of what it is to be a six year old. Maybe some of you had your zest for life, spunk and child-like spirit beaten out of you… Nonetheless , both girls have quite age-appropriate behavior; Aoki is free- spirited and fun-loving(like my six year old daughter), Ming is a bit more quiet/reserved (as is my ten year old). Where is the crime in individuality and allowing our children to be themselves?

Aoki is going to be the black paris hilton if her mother does not start to curve that over-the-top little personality she has. Yes, you can already see she is high-spirited but its all about balance. Kimora needs to get “all over that” right now so that she can “manage” that spunky personality, so she does not turn into a selfish and demanding teen or adult.

Their young, their parents are well off, and many parents wish they could shower their children with all these two girls have. oh gosh.. wat can i say… i don’t wanna be too harsh… all i kno is my daughters only 3, an all i have to do is look at her an she knos to stop. right now! she loves being the center of attention, loads of kids do, but i’ve always taught her from day one that there is a time and place for EVRYTHING, personally if i was takin my kids somewhere important i wud explain beforehand how i expect them to behave, i wud of thought russel did this which shows that aoki was being naughty an she probly knew it too, ming looked like she knew how to behave, so they’ve obviously been told. so to all of u who think shes only six… my three yr old behaves better
