MALIA AND SASHA SURPRISED BY NEW SWING SET

Submitted by admin on March 5, 2009 at 9:25 am 13 Comments

swing-setFirst daughters Malia,10, and Sasha,7, came home from school on Wednesday to find a new wooden swing set in their new home. While they were in school, the First Lady and President Obama installed the set on the south grounds of the White House near the Oval Office, where President Obama spends most of his time. So why a swing set? The Obamas thought it would make the girls “feel more at home” in the White House.

“Many first families have made these sorts of changes to make the White House feel like home,” McCormick Lelyveld , a spokeswoman for Michelle Obama said. “This one is like their little mark.”

Upon seeing the swing set, the girls screamed with delight. “They ran right for it. They were really, really excited. All four of them,” said McCormick Lelyveld.

    FIRST!!!
It’s awesome that they get to leave little things in the white house to make their mark

  • Red says:

Aren’t they alittle big for a swing set?

  • UGOGURL!! says:

@ RED…you complain if they too grown, you complain if their hair isn’t done, you complain if they don’t wear AGE APPROPRIATE clothes, you complain that they are TOO smart out the mouth, you complain if they are being picked up…NOW YOU COMPLAIN BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS BOUGHT THEIR 10 AND 7 yr old CHILDREN a damn swing set. ARE YOU FN SERIOUS!! They are children…children play on the playground, they swing in swings, they slide down slides..HELL they even play with DOLLS, they watch TV and even eat a good PB & J sandwich with cold glass of milk!

that is the problem..a lot of CHILDREN don’t know how to be CHILDREN because they are FORCED to be adults and NEVER know what being a child is like…thank you Pres Obama and First Lady for allowing your CHILDREN to be just that..CHILDREN!!

Wow a swing set, and later a puppy! Good for them!

I think this is awesome! Children need to be children. I wondered what the White House had to offer them seeing as how they are so young……like Michelle’s mom said, “It would be like living in a museum”. But now something just for them. I’m glad. :-)

UGOGIRL, you are right once again!

Heck I am 20 years old and I still enjoy the swings!

  • Georgia says:

Hell I would play on the swing set if I was invited to the White House. There’s nothing wrong with them having a swing set. They are very young and I’m sure they will enjoy it.

I was hoping they would do something like this for the girls. I think the location is kind of strange, though, right behind the Oval Office/West Wing (why not the East Wing, where the self-proclaimed “Mommy in Chief’s” office is?). I’m sure the girls are going to want to have friends over to play, and kids can get very noisy, as we all know. But, certainly, the imagery of having it behind the Oval (pictures of the president working while his kids play in the background) is much better.

  • Mikey says:

I don’t know that they would have a lot of options for WHERE this could be located- isn’t there a certain part of the lawn that is deemed for family only?

  • Jessica says:

Sydneyj if you would relax that attitude and do a little reading and research you would have found out that Barack wanted the swing there so he could see them from his office.

  • Nat says:

I’m 24–put a swing set in front of me, and I can assure you that I’ll start swinging! I always think Malia is older than she is because she’s so tall, but then I remember she’s 10…when I was 10 (and 11 and maybe 12), I was still playing house and school, jumping on the trampoline, riding my bike around the neighborhood, and yes–swinging! Let them be kids. :)
