PRESIDENT OBAMA RECALLS SASHA’S HEALTH SCARE

Friday, Mar 27 , 2009 10:19:am by admin FILED UNDER Barack Obama

sashadadpueblo When Sasha Obama, the younger daughter of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle, was three months old, she fell ill with meningitis.  It was during this poignant time in his life that the President’s outlook on the health industry changed.

During Thursday’s White House Internet town-hall meeting, the President recalled when “[his]  little precious pea” contracted meningitis.

“When Sasha, our little precious pea, was just three months old, she was hospitalized with life-threatening meningitis. The doctors did a terrific job, but frankly, it was the nurses that were there with us when she had to get a spinal tap and all sorts of things that were just bringing me to tears. And we’ve got a problem in this country, which is we have a shortage of nurses.”

”I’m biased toward nurses. “I just like nurses.”

This is such a sweet photo of Barack and his baby girl. I can’t help but smile :) Beautiful daughter and beautiful father!

I had no idea that Sasha’s real name was Natasha. Mea thanks for letting me know. I wonder how many people didn’t know that either? There were so many reports on the news that people (especially in Africa) have been naming their children Malia and Sasha (and of course Michelle and Barack) after the Obama’s.

I too am biased towards nurses. I’ve admired them for so long and am currently in college majoring in nursing. Go nurses!

Meningitis is really serious. How scary. I’m glad that she’s ok because she is such a doll and brings a lot of joy to the Obama family.

There is not a shortage of nurses. There is so much discrimiantion going on in nursing where the Caucasian and Asian administrators and other individuals who are apart of the hiring process, want to hire their friends and family members. That is unfair for other people who do not look like they look. Something needs to be done about it. I work in the medicalfield that is the reason I know.

Sasha, First girl, reminds me of one of those baby dolls I used to take out of the box on Christmas morning. So beautiful that it took my breath away, almost. I just hope that having had that horrible illment does not effect her in the future.
