Chris Rock is travelling the world showing his documentary “hair” 2 encourage AfrAm to be proud of their hair. Yet Malaak is wearing that shiny bad weave. What a contradiction. how do u tell your daughters to love their hair when Mommy wears a weave ( & a bad 1 @ that!)

when your older you can do what you want with your hair because as an adult, you know who you are. but when you are a child, its very important to love yourself first and then change it up later but you have that foundation.

I agree Tanisha..you don’t have to wear a natural hair do to teach your children to be proud of their heritage. That’s a pretty judgemental statement..there’s beauty in our differences

Yeah, Tanisha, that other commenter totally missed the point of Chris Rock’s excellent, insightful film documentary “Good Hair.” That film should be required in every DVD collection, no matter what “race” with which you identify.

The hair mess that Black women deal with among other Blacks and with Whites might take a long time to go away, unfortunately. I would not want the young Black women coming up to experience what I did at a corporate job years ago. I was flabbergasted when a White manager chastised me in front of co-workers (most of whom were White; others were Latino and Latina; I was a “token Black”). She said that my hairdo was too fancy for the office. I happened to be between relaxers and took the time (a lot of time!) to fashion my hair. The nerve of her! Oh, wait … and then she told me I should go get cornrows. She wasn’t joking. This was a long time ago, before wearing cornrows, box braids and dreadlocks became “tolerable” at corporate jobs.
