ACTRESS NIA LONG’S THOUGHTS ON BEING A MOM

Submitted by admin on April 6, 2009 at 9:37 am 9 Comments

nialongActress Nia Long has written a candid letter about her thoughts on motherhood. The single mom has an eight-year-old son named Massai Zhivago Dorsey II, whom she says is her most “valuable creation.” Read the letter below:

When I think back on what life was like as a child, my mother amazes me. A single, beautiful woman who never let me down. With two masters in the arts finding a job was always difficult for her. She worked her [butt] off to make ends meet. She was always there for me and made sure I had what I needed and then some.

Now I’m a single mommy with an eight year old son. He is my world, my most valuable creation and an image of my highest self. He comes first… ALWAYS. I am blessed to have financial security, a career that keeps on giving and the fearlessness to forge ahead when life gets complicated. I have more in my life than I ever imagined and I feel truly blessed to have a child. Many of my friends are starting to hear their biological clock ticking louder and louder. The fear of being alone in their senior years seems more like a reality. There is never a perfect time to have a child. There is no such thing as a perfect relationship. If you are ready to have a child…. DO IT!!! God has a way of working out the kinks and showing you the way. Married or single giving life to another human being teaches us what love is truly about and forces us to be at our best. Never have I loved like this. My faith is GOD is stronger than ever and my spirit is humble.

There are days when I wish I had Nia time. There are days when money doesn’t solve the emotional strain of single motherhood. I think about my own mother who made it through with flying colors and all I can say is “Thank you mommy!”

For all the …single mothers……HOLD ON!!!!! There is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

MOMMY I LOVE YOU!!! Nia
