QUINCY HASN’T HEARD FROM HIS DAD SINCE…
17-year-old Quincy Brown says that he hasn’t heard from his dad since he published that letter :Letter To My Father. Read below as Quincy explains why he wrote that letter to his biological dad, singer Al B Sure:
I published a “Letter To My Father” recently and the tremendous response deserves my sincere thanks. I’m overwhelmed by how many people took the time to read my letter and listen to my record. I received thousands of calls, texts, comments and e-mails. Thank you for your compassion, support, and understanding.
To those that share my experience, I thank you for your courage. Many of you shared with me your life-experiences without your fathers. I say to you “This is only a season,” one aspect of life. Take the lessons and let them make you stronger and wiser. Commit to never make the same mistake.
I realized I was taking a great personal risk to share my feelings. I thought that revealing this part of my life was necessary. It was an important part of a process to help me understand who I am. I released years of disappointment and pain. My healing has begun.
I haven’t heard from my Dad since I published my letter. I know that eventually our paths will cross in this journey called LIFE. As it has often been said, “Time heals all wounds.” Now it’s time to move on with my journey. A journey where my faith tells me that my father and I will be stronger. Dad, I love you.
Again, I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone that has shared in this life changing experience with me.
Thank You Again…
-Quincy “*iQ” Brown

IQ SHOULD MOVE ON
HE IS THE CHILD BUT HE IS ACTING MORE OF A MAN THAN HIS FATHER IS.
ALBERT BROWN SHOULD BE ASHAME.
MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU QUINCY.
MAYBE HE FEELS BAD.
he is just getting himself some publicity for his music he sure did learn well from diddy on how to get publicity
you know sha…that is really ignorant for you to say…maybe you had both of your parents around so u wldn’t know how that feels…this a young man that obviously needed to get that off of his chest and if this was the best way for him to do it then so be it…like he stated now his healing begins…it is a shame that Al B Sure was not apart of his life…when people decide to have children men/women should know that being a parent is not a part time job that you can deal with whenever you feel like it. Al B Sure is probably embarrassed as he should be. Like iQ said hopefully he will make his presence known and become a part of his life and hopefully it won’t be too late. iQ seems like a good kid and he may forgive him, if he hasn’t already. Puff is a business man..comes of cocky but that is what he is showing him…he stepped up to the plate, expcepted the whole package and seems to feel like this is my son, not a bonus son, but MY SON and that is more than what his biological is doing…so Kudos to Puff (Diddy, whatever, no disrespct) and Kudos for iQ for sharing his story with the world because so many people are walking in the same shoes…he doesn’t need to sell any records, he seems to be taken care of with or without selling his own music…Sha lets be a little bit more
compassionate about other peoples feelings…
AL B. DOESNT FEEL “BAD”…IT’S MORE LIKE HE’S BEING A COWARD AND BEING VERY SELFISH.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT HOW HE FEELS…IT’S ABOUT HOW HIS SON FEELS.
MY HEART HURTS FOR QUINCY.
I BELIEVE THAT THOUGH HE IS TRYING TO MOVE ON BY EXPRESSING HIS FEELINGS THAT HE IS IN A LOT OF PAIN AND TURMOIL OVER HIS FATHER’S ABSENSE IN HIS LIFE.
I HOPE THAT NOW HE CAN TRULY MOVE FORWARD.
MAYBE SOMEDAY FATHER AND SON CAN BE STRONG WITHIN ONE ANOTHER AND SHARE THE LOVE THAT A FATHER AND LOVE SHOULD HAVE.
WAKE UP AL B…YOUR SON NOT ONLY WANTS YOU IN HIS LIFE…HE NEEDS YOU IN HIS LIFE…IT’S OBVIOUS.
I got to give BCK and Q props. I love the new Layout. BCK and Quincy is a very mature and intelligent young man ans he father is the one whom is missing out on his amazing kid.
Quincy Brown has a father…his name is Sean Combs.
his maturity and well-versed writing never ceases to amaze me. keep doing your thing, quincy, and keep being a better man than your conceiver.
I just read quincy’s letter and I can say is: what a cheap shot. I mean, surely Quincy has the right to write such a letter, but he is only 17yrs old and has ZERO idea about the complexities of the male-female relationship. Being with a woman is HARD. Making it (a productive relationship) work with children is even HARDER. Not to say that running away is the answer….but, a happy step-family is better than a unhappy organic one. And, Q benefitted from it (being raised by Diddy!).
What these kids need to find out is the story behind why thier families did not stay together and stop automatically blaming the father for all of the shortcomings. I mean, whas there a “Letter to My Mother?” Probably not. Just wait Quincy….wait and choose wisely, homie.
Quincy isn’t writing about his family not staying together, he is writing about his father abandoning him…huge difference. Parents separate all the time, that doesn’t give either the right to walk out of their child’s life.
Blue-
There is a world of difference between the breakup of the family and a abandonment. Two very vastly different issues…now, if Al B simply got up one day and simply left, then, yes, he is guilty of abandonment.
But, if the family split, the mother should be EQUALLY GUILTY OF THE SPLIT. Only blaming your father is wrong and will probably only leave Quincy seeking more answers.
He needs to examine the reasons behind the breakup of his mother and father, because like I said, being in a healthy relationship, (even minus the added pressure of being a pop star) is hard.
Well written. You must not be of Generation X. With all my years of experience, I will say that Quincy does not know the whole story to his parents and step parent. Mothers do lie!!!
What does that have to do with his “father” not being there then or now?
why did he even right such a personal letter and release for the world to see? it seems as it he did it just to make his father look bad. what’s the point?
Ali, just because a man and a woman can’t make their relationship work does not mean that the man should abandon his child. Look at
Russell and Kimora, Will and Sheree…there are many examples of couples whose relationships didn’t work out but they were able to remain civil for the sake of the child(ren) and they were able to remain involved in the child’s life.
Sorry, but there are no excuses for Al B. Yes, Quincy benefited from having Diddy around, but that still doesn’t replace his father.
his dad really missed out! He seems like a honestly good kid. I’m sure Diddy provides all his needs but there still aint shit like your own father. I can see how Al B. would be discouraged when having Diddy as competition. He probably thought what can he actually learn from me, and some where between then his son grew up and it was too late.
I am very impressed by his writing skills. At least we know Diddy did something right by paying for him to get a good education.
>>>>>>> you go Q. My daughter is in the same situation. She had someone in her life just like you that treats her like she is his biological child. Even though all situations are different all parties involve need to be adults for the kids sake.
Wow he is so mature for his age, whatever the motive I’m amazed at how he speaks being only 17 years old.
to me the people who say maybe al b. felt intimidated by Diddy his step-father or Quincy needs to find out what happened between his father and mother before making decisions on how he feels..are making excuses for parents not to have to parent..this young man is not a baby and if it was important for Al to have a relationship with his son he would have done so..he no longer needs Kim to even act as a go between so blaming the mother is a very lame excuse.. she has moved on years ago and a lot of times if the non custodial parent did some research he/she would find there are laws that protect there rights when it comes to children as well..it just takes a little effort
I dont know what to say. Like I feel like quincy did that for publicity like one part in the song said
‘Your around but its not the same’
Like I dont get It–ATLEAST HE IS AROUND. some people dont have the slightest clue of their fathers name ! for god sakes. Idk im sure its deeper than what im thinking–but its not that serious. I think Al B wants to be a good father but how do you compete with P.diddy ?? like any young child like quincy would choose money over anything. LIKE idk he probably feels like he cannot offer what diddy can. I think DIDDY should step aside and give al b sure a chance–and if its not getting better than atleast you will know-im not sayin diddy should just stop but just chill
I’LL BET ANYBODY THAT HE DOES THE SAME THING TO HIS SON. WHAT A DOUCHEBAG.
I understand the need to express yourself, but why didn’t he communicate this to Al B personally? I’m not surprised his “Dad” hasn’t contacted him. He basically put him on blast. It seems like Diddy taught Q a thing or two about how to get publicity!
Smh…his dad sucks.
It’s never ok to cut yourself out of your own childs life and “abandon” a child. However there are just some things that should be kept private and discussed amongst the parties involved. It is not for the world to know either. I guess Sean Combs having so many children with his mother out of wedlock doesn’t seem irresponsible to Quincy. Then again why should it, Sean Combs can give them the world with all of his money. No one is perfect not Quincy’s dad or Sean Combs. I think it was a publicity stunt for his music and that’s just sad!
I agree whole heartedly and i believe that the letter was too personal to have been made public, no matter what. Matters like this should be sorted between family not on the world wide web
The picture in this post looks rather recent……I’m not sure if I buy this at all and why doesn’t Kim talk about it??? He shouldn’t be posting things like this…..this is a private matter and I too agree that he is just being another Diddy and doing this for his music career.
I dont think this was a publicity stunt at all. I mean it wasn’t that widely publicized anyway. Also, if and when Quincy decides to launch his music career, Diddy’s support (which he will surely have) and the fact that he looks just like his biological father, will be enough to get the word out and generate a buzz around him. It’s never easy to bear your true feelings. Give him a break he’s a kid. If Al had stepped up and paid attention to his child, Quincy would have never felt the need to blast on him anyway.
With a ‘Mother’ like Kim, I don’t trust the motivations of young Quincy. I doubt his father is a wonderful father, but I also doubt things were made easy with the kind of mother he has and the man she’s chosen to alternatively represent as a male father figure in Sean.
Amen to ali’s first comment!! Noone knows why ALS wasn’t around as much. We do not know what happened.
Who cares about what happened in Quincy’s parents relationship, relationship or not Al B.Sure should have been there to raise his child.I applaud Quincy for writing such a well written letter. When Quincy makes something of himself then Al will want to tell the world that’s my son.Quincy is reaching out to his father the only way he knows how.Michael Jackson is single handedly raising three children by himself, whether people want to believe they are his or not,and people still want to call him crazy,so what’s Al B. Sure’s excuse.
He annoys me - what a cry baby. We have seen numerous pictures with him and his biological father. Quincy Brown is not a celebrity - the need for him to write such a public letter was unnecessary, he could have very well written that letter and sent it to Al B Sure and that would be it. He was raised by his mother and Diddy and very wealthy might I add. Some kids don’t have any parents at all let alone by rich ones. He still knows his biological dad even so. Also being raised by Kim who obviously isn’t a very strong woman staying with said “good father” Sean Combs and having surrogate father in Sean Combs, I question his motives. We don’t know what really went on, this was his perspective of things. We do not know Al B Sure’s side or Kim’s or anybody else.
I don’t think it was right for him to air this letter for the public to see. He could have sent this letter to his father and th ey discuss it in a private manner. I don’t blame his father for being angry. I sure he doesn’t know the full story. Not blaming his mother but in a breakup we don’t always act in the best interest of our children out of anger. I pray there is healing on both sides. We have enough ugliness in the world.
You are all wrong I Kim REFUSED to let Al be a father to that child. Especially once she got with Puffy. Al would make arraigments to come see Quincy and she’d be gone with him. She flat out told Al he could never do for her and that child like puffy could and that she would make sure he was out of both of their lives. How do I know because I was friends with both of them.
Dee Jay you speak as if you know Kim, Al, and Diddy? LOL. Just giving you a hard time. But real talk - no one can “REFUSE” to allow you to be a father or a mother for that matter to your child. He could have exercized (however you spell it)his parental rights, took her to court…he could have fought for his son. That’s what people do…they fight, they make a way, they don’t give up….
I don’t think puffy is a good example so he showed quincy how he disrepected his mother by constantly cheating on her right. wow don’t think i want him as example for my son
After reading these comments, I now know why our community is so messed up! It is his letter, NOT yours! This young man is expressing himself in the best way that he knows how and there is nothing wrong with that! It may not be the way that you would have handled this situation but that’s life…we all react and handle things differently.
It kills my spirit to read such garbage from people. Instead of tearing him down lift this young man up and let him know that everything will work out fine.
So let me get this right iQ benefited from Diddy raising him and therefore he should have no complaints about his absentee faither? His feelings are one huge publicity stunt? WOW. There is no amount of money, fortune or fame that can replace a parent, or the loss or feelings of abandonment. That’s the problem with our society we have too many sperm donors and not enough real men to step up to the plate and handle their responsibility. Who cares if Al B Sure is embarrassed he should be for acting like a coward. Who cares if Diddy has more money or fame…Al B Sure is still this boys father and he needs to MAN the HECK UP. No one can replace the love of your biological parent that can only pick up the pieces and try to piece them together again. He didn’t disrespect his father - he simply spoke the truth and the truth hurts…get over it.
Chile…they got that same damn unibrow!
I am the mother of two children whose father are not in their lives. A man that doesn’t not only take care but spend quality time with his children is a coward. I can not teach my son how to be a man, but with the help of my father and brothers everything has turned out very well. I have two beautiful well educated with good paying jobs children. I admire Puffy for stepping up and teaching this young man how to be a man. SHAME ON YOU AL B
