MERCY’S FATHER TRYS TO BLOCK MADONNA’S ADOPTION( his letter is enclosed)
24 Year-old James Kambewa wants to halt pop star Madonna’s adoption proceedings. The father of three-year-old Mercy James has never met his daughter but insists that he can care for the toddler girl on a $34 a month salary as a security guard. James says that he wants to protect his daughter from a life of “scandal” with a woman who lacks “good morals” so he has written a letter to lawyers asking for a permanent injunction against Madonna adopting Mercy James.
The letter reads:
“I have learnt that an American musician called Madonna has applied to a court for the adoption of the kid, to which the grandmother has consented. However, I do not consent to the adoption because I feel I am capable of raising the child. May you please help me to obtain an injunction to stop the court process until I am heard.”

Mr. Kambewa also spoke exclusively to the Daily Mail last night and said the following:
“[Mercy] is my daughter; she is my blood; she needs parental love,’ he said. ‘She is not an orphan. She lost one parent, yes, but I am still alive and so she is not an orphan.”
“Madonna has millions of dollars but that doesn’t make her a good mum. Parental love is more than money.”
He added: “Besides, I don’t think Madonna is a model mum. I have seen her in movies of her songs. She doesn’t portray good morals.”
“How can a woman of 50 dance almost naked on stage? I wouldn’t want my daughter to grow up like that! In Malawi women respect themselves. Cultured women do not go about half-naked.”
“I also heard after her marriage failed she is already seeing two men, both very younger than her and her ex-husband.”
“I hear one of them is even less than half her age. That’s scandalous. How can a normal woman fall for a boy who can as well be her son? No, spare my Mercy that scandal.”
A court has already denied Madonna, 50, the chance to adopt Mercy, but she is said to be ‘ confident’ of overturning

Are you kidding me? Babv Stealing? What is wrong with her wanting to give children from other countries in less fortunate conditions, regardless of race, a better life. Ther mothers father stated that this man wanted nothing to do with Mercy when her mother was pregnant with her and abandoned her. He is only coming forward now because Madonna wants to adopt her and he is wanting his 15 mins of fame….
I think Madonna should adopt this child. Where was the father before Madonna stepped forward. Why block Mercy from living the good life. If they really knew anything about Madonna, they would know she is very strick on her children & they do not watch her performances. Geeeeeeeeeeesh!
He thought that she was dead. The maternal grandmother gave his name to the authorities and he was just recently located and told that his baby survived.
Different cultures have differnt opinions on what they consider to be “good morals.” I can see why he feels the way he does about Madonna, but that doesn’t make her an unfit parent.
This man sounds very close-minded, judging Madonna when he barely knows who she is. Why does he assume she’s not a good parent? Where was his so-called parental love when Mercy was alone in the orphanage? I think he doesn’t really care about her. He impregnated a very young girl, abandoned her while pregnant, and it didn’t bother him until now? Surely he hopes that Madonna will give him money to raise Mercy, what a selfish person!
So you can make assumptions about him but he can’t make assumptions about Madonna?

I think Madonna should adopt the baby. Her children have wonder lives. She can give Mercy much more than James can. He is judging her on what his close mind and African beliefs. Other cultures believe that americans are sex crazied and self absorbed. Not letting her adopt will be a lost for his child.There are so many other kids that can have a better life. If he loved his child, he would give her up.
I agree : besides parental love (which Madonna is able to feel too), there is financial means. I read that he was living in a hut with two other men. How is he gonna raise her?
Madonna has no right to take the man’s child. No one has no right to take anyone’s child just because they feel they could give it a better life. Him refusing to let her have mercy does not mean that is mind is closed, or that he is acting upon his “African beliefs,” which I take offense too. It is not just Africans who want their children to live by morals they find suitable. That differs between cultures as well as individuals. Even if he didn’t want the girl from before, he does now, whether its for selfish reasons, to keep her in her birth country, or because he just likes a good fight. We will never know unless we ask him.
If Madonna cares so much for the girl, she should be able to understand that if she cannot win, or its not a battle she needs to win, its possible to compromise. Madonna has enough money to adopt as many children as she wants from Africa, Asia, Antartica, Europe, Timbuktu, Neverland, or wherever she may find them. She can adopt another child, or ask the father if she can still be a part of the girl’s life. Her and her children can fly over, and maybe when she’s older the father will even let her visit.
I love Madonna, but she is being completely rude and selfish. It is wrong to impose yourself on the lives of other. She should either leave him and his child alone, or help them out. Mercy is all him and the grandmother have left of the child’s mother.
I bet he’s being paid for this. Why didn’t the grandmother notify him that his child was in an orphanage huh? Sounds like some bull to me.
Explain to me why NO ONE thought to act in drastic measures at the though of this child being in a unwanted, uncared-for, poverty state but when someone rich and white wants to give them a life-long family, education, shelter, etc. it is now cause for standing up and taking care of your grandchild (now the grandmother wants her) and child (now the father has been “alerted”).
This child will grow up being just another uneducated kid in one of the poorest nations in the world. Congrats!
Yes, f the country. Let us take the children from their homeland, and cut them off from their roots, because as we all know, only developed countries should be able to bring children forth into the world, and poor people from other countries should be grateful someone wants their child, and just hand them over.
Better yet, poor people in America should be giving away their children. Poor people should not have the right to raise their children, if a rich person wants them.
Yes, it’s more efficient. Rich people who have more resources should be able to take any child they want.
Poor people should only be surrogates for rich people (who make up like 10% of the world’s population).

We don’t know the man, and the man hasn’t been declared an unfit parent, yet the only thing we need to know is that he’s not rich, and Madonna is.
I completely see where you are coming from. I was taken from a poor family (in america) as a baby and adopted by a family just below middle class (all black) and I had a wonderful life. My thing is, where was all this desperate want and need for this child before Madonna showed up? No one decided to tell him all this time. The grandmother didn’t want her all this time.
The crazy thing is, what he’s saying about Madonna is probably correct. But that does not change the fact that any life with a family, shelter, love and an education trumps an orphanage.
And am I so wrong for thinking that people who cannot support a child shouldn’t reproduce? For every me, there are thousand of others that grow up uncared for (good intentions don’t produce a darn thing) It seems as simple as thinking that I shouldn’t go out and buy a mansion and benz.

I can only take his word as true, until something else comes out. If he didn’t know about her, and wants to raise her, broke or not, I don’t see where some outside force should come in and use their “judgement” to say her life would be better with Madonna, simply because she has more money.
You know I used to think like you, and believed poor people shouldn’t procreate. But then I asked myself what the heck was I really saying.
Imperialism has robbed many countries of resources, and the opportunity to develop on an equal playing field. And now that Europe has gone through these countries and stolen all that they needed, they are left poor, and I’m really here saying “Now don’t reproduce, cease from existence”
Classic Darwinism, survival of the fittest. I cannot ignore compassion and primal urge to procreate that is equal in every one of us. The same way Madonna wants to be a parent so damn bad, I don’t see why I can’t believe her father wants that same right.

Capitalism has really played a number on us. Poor Black people are made to believe our lives are worth less, and we shouldn’t have the same rights as everyone else, even natural rights like procreation.
I’ll repeat, I don’t know the man. He could very well be a money grubbing bastard trying to exploit his daughter, but dammit I don’t know Madonna either. Nobody is going to be able to tell me, that simply because Madonna wants to adopt a Black child over a White child shows how good a person she is. I don’t know her. Why isn’t he at the orphanage right now? He probably heard that David’s father made a lot of money selling his story to the tabloids multiple times. This could give him a steady income for years to come.
Where was this guy and the grandmother when this little girl was being placed in an orphanage? Some parental love. Heck, where was this guy when the child was living with her mother? He should have been there, too. Sounds as if someone told him that some rich white woman would be doing his job and his male ego kicked in. Why should this child be cursed to a life of poverty?
This shouldnt be a matter of who has more money to take care of her. If this were two American parents fighting over custody, would we argue over the better and more adept parent of the richer parent? No, so let that baseless argument go.
The point is, where was the father for the past two years and why didn’t he try to show, before now, that he can provide a decent life for her child? Can he actually take care of her health, educational and emotional needs on his salary? Can he ensure that she wont grow up homeless and starving on the streets 5 years from now?
If he can’t then she deserves to be somewhere where she can live peacefully. If he can, but needs just a little help, then the government should try to give him tat extra hand.
Now, if he’d had any part of the childs life before, then his opinion of Madonna would hold some weight. But he didnt, so it doesnt. But, truth be told, she is a tramp. And she can financially take care of her kids and she may keep them away from the perils of television now. But she cant protect them from learning about her history forever, and with the madness that is her personal life, he does make good points on whether or not his kid will ever grow up without succumbing to what ills being the child of Madonna can bring her.
Just my two cents.
First, he needs to go back to school. If he cared that much for the child, she would already be with him.

I’m with everyone else- I smell BS. He’s never met the child, now all of a sudden he wants to care for her?? Where is he while she’s in the orphanage, why hasn’t he taken her out?? Someone said he thought she was dead- did he bother verifying that or hunting the truth before Madonna tried to swoop in and “save” the child?
Some shady american media are paying him to do this so they have more scandal to write about. Women in those countries are treated like ANIMALS!! Google some African pictures and see. He will most likely sell her later on anyway. I don’t Madonna is the best person in the world but at least I know for sure that the little girl won’t be gang raped or sold to some older man.
