This was the question that was posed to singers Deborah Cox and Faith Evans. When asked what their candid thoughts on breastfeeding are, Grammy-winning singer Faith Evans mother of four said: “I never breastfed. To be honest, it never really crossed my mind. It wasn’t big in my family and it wasn’t really encouraged or handed down as the thing to do.”

On the other hand, Deborah Cox, platinum-selling recording artist and mother of three, says: “I am a big believer in breastfeeding,” she says. “I breastfed my oldest for nine months, my second for six months, and I plan to breastfeed my new baby girl for at least six months. At the end of the day, you have healthier kids. Plus, while I was breastfeeding, a lot of the baby weight just dropped off.”

I dont believe you lose weight by breastfeeding…thats not something I believe in anyway…I have three healthy keeds and never breastfeed any of them…

    • CHANTE says:

Look at the medical documentation or proven facts on something before you speak on a matter. it has been medically proven that you loose pregnancy weight faster if you breastfeed. Your body metabolizes energy, protein, and nutrients faster to pass on to the baby in the breat milk. which burns fat and calories for the mother. It has also been proven that breastfed babies are healthier and less prone to ear infections. I have 2 children that i breastfed for only 6 months and neither one of them has ever had an ear infection and they are not 10 and 7.

  • Tamika says:

I am a believer of breastfeeding and tell all of my frieds and relatives to do it. Aside from the nine months of carrying the baby there will be so few precious times you get to have alone with your baby. Breastfeeding allows for that unique, private intimacy. I breastfed my oldest for only 6 weeks because he wasnt getting enough to soothe him..my baby I am still breasfeeding and he will be 14 months. I am working on weaning him now, he only nurses to soothe himself at bed time or if he gets really upset.

  • Ranada says:

I don’t have any kids yet, but I plan to breastfeed.

  • hanaboo says:

it is the best thing for baby and the best thing for us mothers because it does pull your stomach back in… however it is a CHOICE and i don’t like it wen mothers feel forced to breast feed or looked down on for not doing it.. its a choice, i have friends an family who didn’t and they kids are just fine, i breast fed for 3 mnths, each woman feels differently about this and we need to start respecting ppls choices and letting ppl bring up they kids they own way

  • trixie says:

Working in healthcare myself as a Nurse, Breast feeding is the healthiest way for babies. You will be passing on all of your antibodies to your baby which will make them less sick. I didn’t have the opportunity to breast feed my son because I didn’t produce the milk right away, but for future children of mine I plan to breast feed.

  • Lisette says:

Breastfeeding is BEST but I respect a mother’s right to choose what she wants for her baby.

  • Phia says:

Breast is best but I did not breastfeed for long, only 4 months. But I must say that fad of breastfeeding getting you back down to size is so not true. I’ve seen mothers who breastfeed exclusively still keep their baby weight. I haven’t and I’m back down to my original size and have a very flat tummy, it’s all about exercise and well I think good genes.

  • mamanas says:

I BF all my my DD and it’s was the best thing for our family.

  • nyp says:

breast feeding is best. formula is nasty and sooooo expensive. why would any woman choose NOT to nurse? it seems like a no brainer.

    • Nita says:

There are some women who are physically unable to breastfeed. Some don’t produce enough milk or have other issues. For some women, breastfeeding isn’t an option for other reasons that have nothing to do with anyone else. I do believe breastfeeding is ideal, but not breastfeeding won’t harm a child at all. Try not to be so judgmental of the decisions other women make. What works for you and your family may not be the best thing for someone else.

  • Tanya says:

Breastfeeding is best. Do we really know whats in formula?

  • Lori says:

I breastfed both of my sons. The 1st for 10.5 months & the 2nd for 14.5 months. Had to stop earlier w/ the 1st ‘cuz he thought it was cute to bite. No!!

But I will say, it is *the best way* to nourish your baby (passing on antibodies formula can’t provide, the closeness btw you & baby, no bottles to clean or prepare, more sleep for you, etc.), but if it’s not right for you, then don’t do it. You must do what you can do. :-)

  • Lorice says:

I breastfed all five of my kids. Yes, I said it five. I do believe in the health factor. But I didn’t see any weight leaving me. They didn’t have colds long. They never had any ear infections. One thing I treasure most is the bonding. Sometimes, I felt like they were milking me like a cow. But in all, I loved every single minute of it.

  • Shahtia says:

I breastfed my first and hope to breastfeed my second. I love the bonding and the closeness. It really illustrates this wonderful human body that God created. I am 30 weeks pregnant now and even though the baby isn’t here yet my breasts are preparing. That’s amazing and something I can’t deny my child.

  • mona73 says:

i breastfed 2 of my 5 kids and it is true that breastfed babies get sick less often. also my weight did just fall off when breastfeeding without my even trying.

  • LME says:

I’m years from having children but am wondering what happens when you don’t breast feed? What happens with all that milk and I hear it is pretty painful when your breast are so full…

  • Lexie says:

I BreastFed My Son for 2 days lol. But while it was healthy. It hurt lmao. So I stopped. Im only __ Years Old. So I was veryyy young. So Breastfeeding was out the question. Couldnt take the pain. Never heard of loosin baby weight but Im sure its true

  • SUZ(*Ti Amo*) says:

I dont have kids yet, but I want to breastfeed.

  • Zee says:

Breastfeeding is what’s best, it’s nature’s perfect compound for babies! I nursed three, and they didn’t have ear infections, colic(which is irritability, constant crying),constipation, stomach upset, or any other problems that plague bottle-fed babies. And even more importantly, cow or soy based milk products can never replace cognitive brain-development proteins found ONLY in breast milk! It also doesn’t hurt that you lose all your baby weight by about 6-8 weeks.
While I do realize that breastfeeding isn’t for everyone, more Afr. American women could stand to do so. We have the highest rates of infant mortality/ low birth weight babies+ learning disabilities in children+ coupled with obesity in adult women.Come on ya’ll- it’s only LOGICAL for you to breastfeed and a lot of these babies need the healthiest start possible!

  • Kia says:

I breastfed both of my children, one for 14 months, the other for 2 years. I’m always really happy when black celebs/public figures talk about their decision to breast feed.

As Zee pointed out we as a community have some really troubling public health stats and while breastfeeding isn’t some magic cure, it’s a great start.

  • The Dump says:

Well Faith has also admitted to smoking weed throughout all her pregnancies so I woudlnt take her advice about anything regarding motherhood.
