I'm always really happy when black celebs/public figures talk about their decision to breast feed. As Zee pointed out we as a community have some really troubling public health stats and while breastfeeding isn't some magic cure, it's a great start. I nursed three, and they didn't have ear infections, colic(which is irritability, constant crying),constipation,stomach upset, or any other problems that plague bottle-fed babies. And even more importantly, cow or soy based milk products can never replace cognitive brain-development proteins found ONLY in breast milk! It also doesn't hurt that you lose all your baby weight by about 6-8 weeks. While I do realize that breastfeeding isn't for everyone, more Afr. American women could stand to do so. We have the highest rates of infant mortality/ low birth weight babies+ learning disabilities in children+ coupled with obesity in adult women.Come on ya'll- it's only LOGICAL for you to breastfeed and a lot of these babies need the healthiest start possible! Your body metabolizes energy, protein, and nutrients faster to pass on to the baby in the breat milk. which burns fat and calories for the mother. It has also been proven that breastfed babies are healthier and less prone to ear infections. I have 2 children that i breastfed for only 6 months and neither one of them has ever had an ear infection and they are not 10 and 7. I do believe breastfeeding is ideal, but not breastfeeding won't harm a child at all. Try not to be so judgmental of the decisions other women make. Yes, I said it five. I do believe in the health factor. But I didn't see any weight leaving me. They didn't have colds long. They never had any ear infections.
