Pop star Madonna has won her adoption appeal as expected. The news has come earlier than reported but today, Friday June 12th, 2009, singer Madonna received news that she can adopt Mercy “Chifundo” James.  The singer is said to be was “ecstatic,” said Madonna’s lawyer, Alan Chinula. She said, ”Thank heavens.’ “

Chinula says that he is “now awaiting instructions from New York to start preparing travel arrangements for Mercy. I have to be there for her passports and everything.”

The singer’s adoption application was previously rejected in March because she didn’t meet  Malawi’s 18 to 24 month residency requirement.

4-year-old Mercy(sometimes reported as three-year-old) will join Madonna’s adopted son, David Banda, from Malawi, and two children, Lourdes and Rocco, from previous relationships.

Congratulations…these children that are adopted by celebrities are so lucky..truly blessed to be given such an opportunity. I can only hope that they are taught their culture and grow up to be good citizens and give back to the communities they came from.
    Good look, Madonna..thank you!

Ugghh! This just makes me sick!! She bought that baby! How can she circumvent the system just b/c of her money. It’s wrong!

    • Blue says:

You’re right but there is nothing we can do about it. Hopefully Mercy will bond well with her new family and live a great life.

Madonna has turned so many people off with the way she handled this adoption. Maybe things will change because of all the exposure.

  • Yasmine says:

May God bless them all. Now Mercy has the opportunity for a truly blessed life that she would not have otherwise had, had she remained in Malawi as a semi-orphan.

  • Blahniks says:

I completely agree with Nelly and Noya…I am Africa, living in Africa and can’t explain how happy I am that the Malawian courts realized what an opportunity they would have denied that child. Madonna is going to change that little child’s life…we need more people like her…

  • Keepin' it real says:

I am black AND I have TWO adopted kids!! It is still wrong how she went about this. Once you have adopted yourselves and followed the rules and laws, come back and tell me how fair it is that she gets to go and just buy this child. They put you through the ringer to adopt domestically and internationally. Celebrities should go through the same procedure. I am however happy for any child to find a loving home.

  • Nonya says:

    Nelly -

You took the words right out of my mouth! Folks love to hate on Madonna and all the celebrities who are adopting Black kids, as if they are doing anything to help these kids. Puleezz! Can anyone name one Black celebrity that has adopted an African child (excluding Oprah and her school for girls)? It’s a shame that’s what it is. Get over yourselves and instead of criticizing, do something to help these kids!!

  • Torre says:

Ditto! To you both! I’m also very happy for the little girl. She’ll be presented with countless opportunities, an A1 education, and most importantly, she made it out of that reported “HELL HOLE”!

I only hope that Maddona will HIRE AT LEAST 1 AFRICAN AMERICAN NANNY TO ASSIST IN THE RAISING OF ALL HER CHILDREN! Just like I feel that Brad & Angelina should hire AA & asian descent nannies for their brood as well. Mary-Louise Parker (WEEDS) hired one.

Otherwise…. congratulations you Ms. M. and her growing family.

P.s. Your’re right….I’ve heard nothing about any AA celebs adopting any “full-black” children either.
