-Nas pictured this year-

Nas wants you all to know that “fathers deserve love, too”. Here is what he wrote via his blog:

Like Chris Rock said..”All we fathers get is the big piece of chicken- if we lucky”…Moms get songs by the O’Jays and everything!!!!! Moms deserve that love, but right now I’m shouting out to real dads.

Some are great role models with real academic achievements. Some are not. Some are no longer alive. Some fathers are locked up, but they are praying for their kids and hoping to be on the streets soon and be betters dads 1 day.

We deserve the love!!! Becuz we don’t even expect it, we do what we do regardless! With no signs of a reward for it. We put up with everything, standing true to what’s real and letting life take its course protecting our household, our woman, our children, our family. Protecting and leading a nation. Shout out to my pops, a great man! Blessings to our granddads who came b4 us who laid the seeds and the foundation….I wish every dad take a minute to look at what’s he’s done…just a minute…No need to glance too long.. Just smile.

Biggest Shout To My Son On The Way!! Salute!!!I It’s a GREAT DAY!!!

Rapper Nas has a daughter named Destiny with his ex-fiancée Carmen Bryan. He and his soon-to-be ex-wife, singer Kelis, have a son due in July.

WTF?he should speak on this subject

  • Shaunie says:

Part of me agrees with him, and the other part of me is really throw off by his comments.

“With no signs of a reward for it. We put up with everything…”
    You PUT UP WITH everything?!

Since when is THAT what parent is about? Just “putting up with everything” and except constant praise/ songs/ etc. for what a good parent you are?

I’m not saying you shouldn’t give credit where credit is due, but he sounds like he wants some big production when really you should be cherishing all those little moments like the hugs & kisses, the I love you’s, the fingerpainted pictures you put on the refrigerator, watching them grow-up and taking pride in the fact you raised a well rounded, good hearted individual. Is that not “LOVE” enough?!

  • memaniece says:

I agree and disagree with what he’s sayin. when he says “we put up with everything”, he could be referring to all this public bashing he’s receiving and his money getting took out of his pocket. We all know the marriage laws aren’t right(lets be real) kelis is gonna get half of his money for nothing.(not talking child support)

HOWEVER, men don’t deserve a reward for doing what thy are supposed to do. just because mothers get songs doesn’t mean they are more appreciated.

  • KEEYSHA.J says:

I HEAR YOU NAS,AND I AGREE WITH THE COMMENTS ON HERE,ANYWAY HE PROBABLY MADE THIS COMMENT SO HE CAN BE SEEN AS A CARING FATHER REGARDLESS TO WHAT KELIS IS MAKING HIM OUT TO LOOK RIGHT NOW.
AS FOR YOUR NEW SON NAS JUST TAKE CARE HIM IN EVERYWAY ;)

  • Dree says:

wtf i agree, that is bizarre he would say that being that he son is on it’s way and still needs pre natal care, and he sure a daddyin it up now. Don’t just wait till he get here worry about him now

  • Journey says:

    I agree with you 100% @ Dree

  • MrsUmar says:

Alot of the things that Nas mentioned in his blog I’ve heard all to often from my own husband. What my husband, Nas, and many other men are doing is great…but it’s no different then what mothers have been doing since the beginning of time. It’s just sad that not enough brothers will step up to the plate and handle their responsibilities.

  • Bee Smooth says:

O.K. looky here people fathers need to be treated equally then mothers its not that hard to do people my father is a good man…plus hes there for two kids that r not even his now thats a real man right char :)

@memaneice “to the where not suppose to get rewarded for what were suppose to do (im not a daddy i guess future daddy” thats something my uncle would say arent u grateful that they are there because they didnt have to take care of the child unlike my daddy again…love that man :)

  • RP says:

We deserve the love!!! Becuz we don’t even expect it, we do what we do regardless!

Damn right some have academic achievements, some even have spell checker.

I cannot understand why some people think they should be praised for doing their job. A child does not ask to be born. I would like to know what he means by ‘we do what we do regardless’.

  • K says:

What he wants praise for doing what he’s supposed to do as a father?
Mothers deserve all the praise and love because they bust their asses from day one! How many black households have been and are being held down by mama? Mine was. She made a way out of no way time and time again when pops was nowhere in sight. Unfortunately, this is reality for so many children. It kills me when men want extra props for sticking around and doing their duty as dad. It’s called owning up to your responsibility and being a man and doing what is right. Get over yourself!

  • RP says:

Shout to the doctor for healing people, shout to the fireman for putting out fires and not starting them, shout out to everybody doing what they are supposed to be doing.

    • Tanya says:

LMAO!!! It’s azaming how he wants praise for something he signed up for. For the fathers that want praise: watching a healthy, happy child grow to be a happy, confident, law abiding, productive, citizen should be thanks enough.

  • Nicole says:

Y’all let’s not be so quick to assume that Kelis is not getting pre-natal care. That starts as soon as a woman finds out that she’s pregnant. She’s getting ready to deliver and they’ve only been separated for a few months. I’m sure she has not been going all this time without the care that she needs. And I don’t think that Nas is that kind of monster where he would not make sure that she has what she NEEDS. WANTING and NEEDING are two totally different things. From what I’ve been hearing, she seems to WANT alot of things from him. I’m pretty sure she is getting what she needs as well. I know his momma and daddy would be in his a** if she weren’t.

Also, we don’t know all of the details of their relationship, and never will, so we don’t know exactly what is making him comment on what he has had to put up with. From what I’ve read, heard, etc. I don’t see Nas making too many comments on what is going on between him and Kelis. I commend him on not “putting her out there” in regards to whatever it is she may/may not have done, because she is his wife and the mother of his child. I used to go back and forth with my brother in regards to this same issue and was constantly telling him that no matter what happens you don’t talk trash about your kids’ mother because she is YOUR KIDS’ MOTHER.

I just pray for the both of them and hope that everything works out for them and that they resolve their issues so that they can at least go back to being friends and work together so that their son can have a great relationship with the both of them.

  • Emm OK says:

Tru he could stay a dead beat even after the baby is born. Shout out to him for talking about sticking around. All to often men make a women feel like she should be greatful that he is sticking around and it isn’t about the women but it is about the baby. It is a duty not an option. Unless you want you kid behind bars, you should be there cause that is where most end up without daddies in the picture. Not all but most.

  • Zogie says:

Nas was a dad before Kelis was prego. It seems like he’s just speaking out because this weekend is Fathers Day.
Okay, so what, WHAT DOES HE WANT CUSTODY OF HIS EMBRYO FOR THE DAY?
I don’t believe he has paid for anything since she left. She had prenatal care.. They were eager beavers to tell the world they were having a boy.. Tho Kelis can be weird sometimes I sure Nas didn’t put his head on her belly and say…its a boy lets go public.. A professional told them. And to the person who says she doesn’t deserve anything…pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaassssssssseeeeeeeee. This is why men, daddies get bad reps. Woman carry children p t0 12lbs pulling bodies to no end. Men carry sperm.. Weighed by ounces.. Mama’s give life, and take I love you as gifts.. Soo damn skippy Kelis should get something.
Nas, (love you still *kiss on his cheek*) but get a damn life with the bull.

  • Melissa says:

DADS THAT ARE FULL-TIME DADS ABSOLUTELY DESERVE THE LOVE AND THE BIG PIECE OF FRIED CHICKEN SO TO SPEAK! I LOVE THEM REPSONSIBLE MEN!

BUT THEM BOY DADS THAT MAKE THE BABIES AND DO NOTHING OR LITTLE TOWARDS RAISING THAT CHILD SHOULD FORGET IT! AN OCCASIONAL TRIP TO MCDONALDS AND SOME DIAPERS EVERY NOW JUST AIN’T RAISIN NO CHILD…BE FOR REAL. I DISLIKE THEM PLAYERS THAT BRAG ABOUT MAKING THE BABIES AND TRYING TO COZY UP TO THEM AFTER THEY ARE GROWN. THEY ARE TOO WORTHLESS!!!!!! NO PAIN NO GAIN!!!!

  • InnocentCorruption203 says:

Funny I never hear Rev Run complain about not getting props for being a father. Puffy, Will Smith, or shall I say anyone who actually has an active consistant role in their child’s life…..Things that make you go HMMMMMMMMM

  • Angel says:

Nas, they do have a song about a daddy; Papa Was A Rolling Stone. lol

  • Lisette says:

I like Russell Simmons posts better. lol

  • Zee says:

    This is what Kelis said:

In a post on her twitter page – she claimed that yesterday she forgot it was Father’s Day because she “can’t think of any guy who is a really great father”

She went on and added that she wasn’t trying to be funny or cruel with the statement, she was just telling the truth as she saw it.
