She is of Trinidadian descent. I’m sorry, I am so biased because I think my people (West Indian, regardless of what island) are so beautiful.

Tanya, no one said All West Indians are beautiful, come on now. Whats with the nit picking?
I’m Jamaican by the way, and we are very diverse, I went to school with Chinese, Indians and biracial whites. So i have a little suppin, suppin to say on the subject. I always thought that Ms. Long had some asian in her, just by looking at her features, mainly her eyes. I had no idea that she is of Trinny descent. Kudos, we are all beautiful people, if we dont say it, then who are we waiting on to praise and uplift us??

She is Trinidadian.
Wikipedia: “Long was born in Brooklyn, New York, U.S. to Talita, a teacher and printmaker, and Doughtry “Doc” Long, a high school teacher and poet. Her family is of Afro-Trinidadian descent.[1][2][3] Her stage name, Nia, is one of the seven days of Kwanzaa, which means “Purpose” in Swahili.”

Nia Long is just a natural beauty and it has nothing to do with her being west indian it has everything to do with her mom and dad blessing her with those good looks. I believe that black people need to stop acting like you have to be mixed to be beautiful because we have plenty of african-american men and women that family were born in United States that are GORGEOUS and here are my examples Denzil Washington, Morris Chestnut, Dwayne Wade, Will Smith, Stan Lathan, Omar Epps, Tyrese, Larenz Tate, Angela Bassett, Tina Turner, Diahann Carroll, Malinda Williams, Sanaa Lathan, Aisha Tyler, Megan Good, Suzanne Shank, Nancy Wilson, Gabrielle Union, Queen Latifah and the list goes on. Lets remember this BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL because we come in so many shades of color, shapes, hair texture, lips and eye color and we need to start APPRECIATING THIS BEAUTY instead of knocking it down because its so many other races paying to have what you already were BORN WITH.

No one is saying that you have to be mixed to be beautiful. I am saying that I am from the Caribbean and I love my people, and think they are beautiful–that’s all I am saying.

Hi Felicia,
You make an excellent point because I say that all the time as well. But being Jamaican or Trinidadian is not mutually exclusive of being BLACK. Most West Indians are Black just of a different ethnic and cultural background. It is a valid difference that we celebrate every chance we get! We all should. Usain Bolt to di WORLLLLLL!! yea! 9.58s World Record.

FYI being West Indian doesn’t automatically make you mixed. I’m West Indian-American and very proud of it. If other races can celebrate their cultural differences, then black people should be able to do the same as well.
I think my West Indian people are beautiful. Black Americans [African-American is a flawed term] are beautiful. As are Africans. And blacks from all over the globe branching from different ethnicities and cultures all over the world.
Lumping ourselves under one general cultural umbrella hurts us and blinds others to the many different aspects of the black experience.
Anywho, though my fam is Grenadian, I’ve got some Trini roots too…good to know Nia is a island gyal!

Is it true that Nia Long has another child? Is is true that she has a daughter for a Bahamian who died some years ago; he was a Pilot? I know that they had a relationship before she became famous and she came over several time before he was killed with a daughter that was stated is his.
I’m just talking; because I am curious, because many stars have children before making it big and not acknowledge them. That would be very sad, because you’re such a beautiful and talented woman. I am a mother of three and my daughter is a rising star; I we believe in family. God bless.
