ANTONIA CARTER: THE CHILDREN SHOULDN’T BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
Reality television star Antonia “Toya” Carter, the mother of rapper Lil Wayne’s daughter, has responded to the public’s outrage over the OMG Girlz’ performance at the 2009 BET Awards. The OMG Girlz, as you may all know by now, features the daughters of rapper Lil Wayne(Reginae Carter) and singer Tameka “Tiny” Cottle (Zonnique), and two young girls named Bahjah and Lourdes. The following is Antonia’s statement:
I, Antonia ” Toya” Carter, have been disturbed but silent about the recent performance that took place at the BET awards, which including my only child Reginae Carter and her friends joining her father Lil Wayne on stage while he performed his new single “Every Girl”. I will be the first to admit that the father and daughter relationship should not have been reunited on stage for any particular reason while this song was being performed. Wayne is a very loving, caring, and devoted father and I truly feel that the act was unintentional due to the fact that he was trying to make his little girl happy by letting her be on stage with her father. Once again, I do not of any degree think it was a wise decision and I truly do apologize to all that this may offended and most importantly the children that watched this performance. I feel we all have learned a lot from this situation and pray that the viewers will allow these children to move forward with their lives and not held accountable because they are innocent.

no one was blaming the children …we were putting the blame where it belongs which is with the parents
Flag this
Right! No one blamed those kids for anything. Toya and Wanye need to stop the “trying to make our daughter happy because she cried” B.S.. All parents want their kids to be happy so stop the nonsense.
Kids cry over some dumb crap everyday. But the difference between having mature parents with common sense and having parents like Toya and Wayne is, a mature parent is not going to agree or allow their kid to do something tacky like that JUST to make the kid happy.
People are NOT stupid. We know they had those little girls there, on red carpet and on stage to promote their singing group. Folks would have a little more respect for Wanye, Toya, and Tiny if they just come out and admit that their little promo plan for the girls backfired and apologize WITHOUT the excuses

She’s right. The children should not be held accountable…..However, the parents should be. It’s our job to teach our kids…the kids don’t know any better. But, this is what happens when kids are having kids and they the parents don’t know any better themselves. So, with that being said…..Antonia”toya” Carter and the “very loving, caring, and devoted father” you both should be held accountable/responsible.

Agreed. If children managed themselves, there would never be a need for parents. Most children aren’t aware of their boundaries. The parents are the shot-callers, the decision makers… Lil Wayne should start functioning like father by choice and not by default and make some wise decisions.

i hope she understands that we were ALL castin a side eye at the parents and not the children. children go in the direction you guide them. i pray for them

Unfortunately these children will forever be known as the “girls on the stage for that song”. Their careers as entertainers will forever be tarnished and their personal projections. I will not support OMG, songs, events or anything due to the fact that I can’t trust the judgement of those who should be raising them.

Toya-good pr move. However, keep up with your daughter @ all times. These things normally happen when mom is promoting and/or out and about……………Please don’t let Hollywood eat u up!!!!!!!!

That was really good of Toya to apologize for what has taken place. Everyone makes bad choices and doesn’t always think things through. As she stated, they have learned alot from the situation and going forward will be more mindful. You live and you learn.

Agree…

Look, either way it was tacky and SHE (Toya) is the PARENT! She (the parent) should have known BEFORE that this was inappropriate. It shouldn’t have taken a bunch of backlash (and a fear that people will no longer watch that sh*t they call a show) for her to put that together…wow!

I cannot beleive that no one has commented on the fact that her grammer is more that poor. May be next time she decides to release a statement she should ask someone to proof read it first.

Hee-hee, “grammar” is spelled wrong in your post…
Flag this
And “believe” is wrong, too.

lol…how ironic!
Flag this
maybe you should check your grammar first! just a thought….
and leave toya, wayne, tiny, and them girls alone! it was a mistake…. they realize that now… move on!

her grammar was pretty bad….

I purposely did not watch the BET awards show…I never do but now, watching this clip, I am reminded why. It looked like a minstrel show and those people should be ashamed of themselves.

like damn mind ur own bizness its not ur children so dnt worry about it if u dnt like it dnt let ur kids watch this leave em alone y do u care so much everyone has there own opinion so if u dnt like it its not ur problem to worry about or discuss..

Ashbear…it’s that type of thinking right there that has kids being disrespectful to adults as if they are in charge of anything. Because of that kind of thinking, a sensible parent couldn’t come to you and inform you of your child doing something wrong because all you’re concerned about is you and yours. Respect starts at home, and the way you’re thinking..is very negative and immature. That’s not the way the world works, hence…this topic. And the reason people are discussing it is because it was put on NATIONAL T.V to see AND because we have the freedom of speech so we’re more than welcome to express our opinions. That’s another mature thing people should learn…it’s okay to disagree. We obviously do, but it’s all good. Take care!

Live, learn, let it go, and try to not to do it again.
Critical thinking skillz people.
It’s crucial.

Although an initial bad decision, the kids are innocent. The have to be careful in the future. I wish the girls well. Hopefully there managers will be more mindful of who and where they perform.

Its funny…..the only thing that people see is negatives in what other people do…..its also funny how one unthinkable moment makes someone a “bad parent” all of a sudden….for the person who said she has bad grammer…make sure your kitchen clean before you walk into somebody elses…..for those of you who claim that they knew what they were doing….they were doing something that you obviously can’t do for yours….keeping them off the streets and exposing them to something different…..maybe if more of us looked out for our kids the way other races looked out for there’s instead of being crabs in a barrel we would have more educated color in the world!!! and for the person who thinks that they are making a statement by not watching black entertaiment praise the hard working black entertainers remember this they make money whether you watch or not!!! now i’m not saying that the choice they made was right but it was their choice…..judge not…..

SHES RIGHT BUT AS A PARENT YALL SHOULD OF SAID NO MAYBE ON A DIFFERENT TIME.

AND ITS OK TO SAY NO TO YOUR KIDS SOMETIMES.

Alot of people are saying they don’t hold the kids responsible but when the first article was published most of the comments were geared toward the girls saying things like they were going to grow up to be strippers and have babies at 16. Toya said she had nothing to do with them going on stage and everyone keeps saying she should have knew where her child was but if your child is with their father you’re going to trust the fathers judgement so people need to stop being so judgemental and let them live their life and raise their child.

O.K. I’ll give her that credit for being a mature adult about the situation, I just hope that they really mean that, because that preformance really had me thinking how many kids are being kidnapped and mess with by evil people.

She is right its not the children’s fault its hers! She makes black people look bad in that ghetto hood rat show of hers Tiny and Toya!I am sorry but its hard to understand what she is saying lol!

This is sad, I feel bad for those little girls who look so cute, and they must be very embarrassed by all the criticism. I blame the parents.

To the people who actually think Toya would send her child out on stage purposely while Wayne was performing that song, are insane. Why in the hell would she do it purposely.I mean seriously, Reginae is probably spoiled and they were just giving her what she wanted.Im positive it was not planned, and the parents probably didnt know the world was going to make this a big issue.Give these people a break gesh!

How bout we as adults and the black race focus on the words of this song they were dancing to. I don’t think any respectable person should dance to those lyrics.

Toya had her daughter at the age of 14 so she was a child having a child. That’s probably why her judgement is skewed. I couldn’t sit through Lil Wayne’s song so I know I wouldn’t expose my child to his music. She is caught up in his fame just like the average groupie. She needs to get a talent so that she has something to offer a man besides whats between her legs.

Wad them lil gurls look cute in this pic. But they look older then what they are suppose to.

Can anyone tell me were I can buy a skirt similar 2 what zonnique on the far left is wearing.

Well i do agree the parents made the wrong choice but i also think ppl care waaaay too much about this. It’s not like their lives were put in danger and they are probably all over it by now.
