SOLANGE MAKES A “STATEMENT” WHILE OUT WITH SON

Singer Solange Knowles sported a new do while out with her son Daniel Julez Smith, 4½, on Thursday in Los Angeles. While she had no intentions of “making a statement” with her new hairstyle, Solange has indeed done so unknowingly. In a twitter message sent out today(July 23), Solange reacted to fans who questioned why she cut her hair:
“Listen if i wanted to make a statement, i would have twitpic’d photoshoot etc. [I was] simply taking my son to school. Stupid paps took pic. I’ve had my haircut like this for two weeks. I was not inspired by anyone but myself. I have done this twice in my life. I was 16. I was 18… Don’t need your attention or your co-sign. I am #3 trending topic before Iran and some of you can’t even locate it on a map. It’s sad.”
As for why she prefers a short do, Solange said, “…I just wanted to be free from the bondage that black women sometimes put on themselves with hair. This phase in my life, i want to spend the time, the energy, and money on something else not in the hair salon.”

It takes great courage for any woman to wear their natural hair. This is how we were made. We need more women like Solange to make good role models for our black children.
The problem is that our idea of beauty is based on European standards and that is wrong.

OMG!!! by watching the movie “BRING IT ON ALL OR NOTHING”, i would never think that u would look like this. Im not saying anything bad but by looking at you as you were a teen mom and have a son at such a young age…its just wow. It looks pretty good. I like it all though i would never do it!!!! But i still love you. I no u dont need my 2 since but i gave it anyway!!! LOOKS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought it was pulled back in a ponytail. Can’t say nothing bout short hair, because I love my hair short. Looks pretty good on her and we can tell they just came from “Burger King”,lol.

What is it….just a really, really, really, really, short and natural ‘fro??? If it IS, it looks NICE…it ROCKS…it’s HOT!!! I wore my hair like that for close to 5 or 6 years til I wanted to change my look. Get over it people…she cut her HAIR, not her nose off!

Black people do be flippin out about some hair if we would stop ghetto weavin it up and start taking care of it not slapping it down with hair oil it would grow get a trim every 4 to six weeks your hair would do great I am black and my hair was down my back and I recently cut it into a very short style and yes I got flack for it but I loved it now I am growin it back out its HAIR!!

It’s different…but hey…for each it’s own!!! She looks like Bianca from America’s Next Top Model <— not sure what season. I’ve thought about cutting my hair like that to “start over” just haven’t had the guts.

It’s good that she ditched the weave. The haircut does not look bad, but it is ture that she does need a line up. When you have it short like that, you have to do the natural justice and rock it. You have to put a little more effort into your appearance for it to look nice. Solange did not do it here, but I’ll let her slide because the paps catch many celebs off guard.
I cut off my perm back in 2001 and it has been natural ever since. It’s healthy and down my back. And yes, I can point out Iran on a map.

I was looking at all her pics and thinking she’s stepping out, being herself and doing her thing. However, she is always on defensive mode. If she doesn’t need a co-signer or attention then why does she respond with so much anger and pain. She always sound so bitter. Who is she so mad at?

I’m not sure what was said to Solange to cause such a crude reaction. She’s quite right – she does not need to explain; but she is also mistaken that no-one can ask her. The PUBLIC has as much right to ask as she has a right to respond like a nut. This young woman needs to grow up!!!!. She BADLY wants to be in the PUBLIC eye but does not want PUBLIC comments. Michelle, I know! A mood disorder like Britney Spears. Only thing missing is she’s not swinging a bat or some other object at somebody or object to get photographers attention.
Pictures of Solange don’t sell for as much as Britney, though. Enquirer, People and Star haven’t had this photo on the front page. Not the same impact. She needs to try something a little more dramatic than going to Burger King with a low cut do.

This is nothing like what Brittney did IMO and I don’t see why anyone would assume otherwise. Maybe you two know something about Solange that I don’t? I don’t follow her so I wouldn’t know.
The tabloids don’t care about Solange’s haircut because it’s just that, a haircut (MOO). If there was some deep dark back story to it we would have seen some bizarre news report.
