Two beautiful girls
Flag this
She kinda looks like young “Hilary” from the fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Why do we keep praising these mixed children?. Light-skin does not make a child an automatically beatiful person.
Flag this
they would be cute light or dark….
Flag this
Ditto!! They are cute simply because they are cute. Beautiful smiles, and nice eyes. =D They’d still be cute if they were as dark as Tyrese.
Flag this
Nobody said they where cute just because they have light skin….they just are two cute little girls….light skin or dark skin
Flag this
So that means that if a child is mixed and is gorgeous that you don’t say anything because they are mixed and you only want to praise dark children? Talk about racist!
Flag this
Their just children okay. No more or no less than the next child. Now peoples definition of beautiful depends on the person..
Flag this
Since when was Yara’s complexion considered light? She certainly isn’t dark but no way would I call her light.
Flag this
Please let me know why it matters if these kids are dark or light skinned? They are children of color-period. How in the heck do we (as people of color) expect other races not to judge us by the “color of our skin” if that’s all we talk about when we look at pictures of these beautiful children?! The only thing that this is doing is passing down that same stupid complex to other generations. BREAK THE CYCLE!!
Flag this
Yara is such a gorgeous little girl!
Flag this
HOLLYWOOD IS VERY RACIST DID YOU GUYS KNOW IF THEY WERE DARKER IN COMPLEXION (ALEK WEK OR GABRIELLA UNION), THESE YOUNG LADIES WOULD NEVER BE CONSIDERED BEAUTIFUL OR GET A ROLE IN HOLLYWOOD….TRUST ME ,ITS A FACT!!!!
Flag this
Maybe Hollywood wouldn’t consider them to be beautiful (their view of beauty is distorted anyway) but darker girls do get roles. Keke Palmer, Ashley Marie Arnold, China and Gabrielle Anderson, Jamai Fisher for example. IMO there is a shortage of work for black actors and actresses (light and dark alike).
Flag this
okay so how are gabrielle union and alek wek rich and famous then?lol you sound stupid..
Flag this
@ Mammy’s niece. I sound Stupid, huh! well, speaking of Alek Wek, when is the last time she was praised in the Media? And Gabrielle Union, she is so beautiful. I just checked IMBD.com, and I see she(Gabrielle Union) started her career in “Family Matters,” in 1993. Yes, she is gorgeous.
I think that I am going off of the subject. Don’t you Mammy’s niece?
If you answered Yes, you are on the same track that I am on, and I think that you are thinking the same thing that I am thinking: Why are we speaking of Gabrielle Union and Alek Wek, when this blog’s section pertains to Yara Shahidi and JadaGrace?
Flag this
lol@mammy, i was replying to mrs gerbino, she CLEARLY brought those women up, but your first comment was indeed stupid…
Flag this
I do believe you were the first person to mention colour. Everyone else has said they were cute…because they are cute. Light or dark these two children are beautiful. I also do not believe anyone is “praising” them because of their light skin (which personally I don’t find that light anyways). I think they are on this site because they are children of colour who are doing amazing and positive things with their lives. I believe they should be applauded for what they have achieved and not brought down because someone does not find them black enough.
Flag this
LOL @ your “I believe they should be applauded for what they have achieved and not brought down because someone does not find them black enough,” statement. But I respect your comment!!
You make it seem like they’re Doctors, or something.
It is not my intention to bring these girls down in any way. My little cousins watch them, and love them.
Flag this
JadaGrace does look like Janet Jackson, and I think Yara looks like Ananda Lewis. They are both cute to me, and I don’t see Yara as light skinned @ all.
Flag this
So adorable! My daughter has hair like that and she is not mixed. I wonder what kinds of products they use to keep the frizz down and define the curls?
Flag this
They are QTpies
I hope they don’t grow up too fast… atleast they still look like kids
Flag this
Actually Ce-Lo the first child looks to be a beautiful pecan brown complexion to me and she is absolutely gorgeous. Second little girl is a lighter complexion and she is just as gorgeous. If they were dark/white/tan, etc with the same looks, they would still be gorgeous.
Flag this
i just love yara she so beautiful.. and i love her dress too
Flag this
Cee-lo… you really need to relax. All children are GODS children! They both are beautiful and talented. Cant we give some cred where its due? You know the world is coming to an end when folks come on these type of sites debating about children..GEEEEZ I guess it really does start at home!!

I suppose light and dark are subjective, because imo Yara would be classified as “light” skinned. She’s not as light as Jadagrace, but nonetheless lighter than the average Black person.
In any case, I find it quite sad that people don’t know how to differentiate between racist and self-loving.
Cee-lo, I think I understand what you were trying to say. Was it that Blacks typically classify those with non-Black features to be more beautiful than ourselves? I agree. I do tend to notice that people will sing “oh how cute he/she is” when it is a light-skinned child moreso than a child with average or dark-complexion.
However, I think it’s equally sad that you would want to take a way from a child’s beauty/uniqueness as a form of rebelling against the norm. They are beautiful children, for whatever reason, saying otherwise is hurtful and unnecessary.
Flag this
I guess you’re right about light and dark being subjective. I am curious as to what color you consider the average black person to be though. There are too many colors across the spectrum for me to even begin to guess what color the average black person is.
Flag this
Let’s face it!
Black people with *unique* (meaning non-Black features) will always be considered cuter
Does it matter if they come from two Black parents or one? No! B/c at the end of the day, they are consider “cuter” because they do NOT look like most Black people (i.e. Tyra Banks, Beyonce, Rihanna, YARA, Jadagrace, Heidi’s kids, etc…)
As much as it isn’t fair, I’m tired of complaining about it. In all honesty, these girls ARE cute because of their blend but the problem isn’t that their beauty comes from their mixture; Its that we put to much emphasis on *physical beauty* when it comes to human worth…
Who says having physical beauty is superior anyways? We do! Would it be better if dark people with big noses and afro-textured hair were considered *the best looking* Black persons? No! Someone will always lose out because we are human and we like to hold one group higher than the other
Flag this
What do “most” black people look like? (serious question)
Flag this
NOT like the people I mentioned that’s what…
We all know what most Black people look like because we can spot when someone DOESN’T look like they come from two African Americans–whatever that look may be.
Flag this
That didn’t help me at lol.
Flag this
Whoops. That should have said that didn’t help me at all lol.
Yara is a clone of her mother who is black. The only difference is that she is lighter and her curls are looser (but many blacks have the same type of curls). Tyra comes from two black parents and looks black to me. I guess it’s all subjective…
Flag this
black folk should be able to compliment mixed kids without feeling threatened
Flag this
I agree that lighter complexions are considered to be better. But I really do not mean to bring these two girls out of their lime-light. Of course, they deserve(the girls) to have their shine. All I am sAying is that I wish darker skin children could be represented, as well, in Disney and Nickolodean shows and movies.
Flag this
YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK, THE MEDIA IS SENDING A MESSAGE TO BLACK PEOPLE BY SAYING BE LIGHTER IN COMPLEXION, ITS BETTER FOR YOU. THE MORE DARKER YOU ARE, THE LESS ATTRACTIVE.THEY WANT THE DARK SKIN COMPLEXION TO FADE AWAY. THAT IS WHY MANY OF THE DARK SKIN BLACK MEN (ESPECIALLY THE CELEBRITIES) GO AFTER WHITE WOMEN OR LIGHT SKIN WOMEN IN ORDER TO HAVE LIGHTER CHILDREN. SEE THE STARS ON THIS WEBSITE FOR YOURSELVES!!!!!! ITS PATHETIC
Flag this
I still don’t see were Yara is light skin lol to me she look a medium brown, and I have seen fully black” average looking black people” (whatever that Is LOL) who are the same tone. What now do you have to a certain shade of brown to be considered an ”average” or ”’real” black person?! That’s ridiculous you really need to get over yourself!
Flag this
We are all Made in the image of God….Beauty comes from within….it’s the way you carry yourself…not the shade of your skin
Flag this
Blue. I agree with the things u said about darker skinned people are represented in Hollywood and there is a shortage for black actors and actresses light and dark alike. I’m black and I haft to say that all of this light/dark stuff comes from the people in our community more so than people outside of the comm. We judge each other on the light/dark basis. If you are a darker skinned person you’d have a better chance by being judged and seen positively by a white person than you would by a fellow black person.
You see white people don’t judge or see us as being light or dark, they just see black and when they discriminate against u,they don’t care how light or dark you are because again, they just see black regardless of the shade.
As far as the shade of the average black person, there really isn’t an average shade because we are a diverse people and there are black people in this country (i know some) that have the same color skin as these two little girls and they y have two black parents, come from a black family, and they aren’t mixed with anything.
They are pretty little girls, but is that lipstick on there lips??? If so, they should take it off!

Yara is a GORGEOUS brown-skinned black girl. Jada-Grace always look too grown for my taste. nine year olds do NOT need lipstick on regardless of their profession.

She looks like a young Soledad O’brien (cnn)

African American come in all different shades and physical features that is what makes our race beautiful- in fact any race. Take a look at Africa, West Africans have different facial features hair etc than those from east Africa (Somolia, Ethopia etc). I have both of these girls complexions, Yara in the summer and Jada’s in the winter and I love both and I am not mixed, but I do have Indian and White 2-3 generations back (great-great grandparents)
Just a little sidenote… most african americans in this country have other ethnicities in them -either Native American or Caucasian. So how do we call ourselves just African American (A arfican guy once told my mom she can’t call her self afican american b/c of her complexion and facial features err).
I look forward to the day when the world is one big melting pot and I will be contributing to that melting pot and my future children don’t worry about race.
Flag this
I don’t look forward to that day. I really don’t want to see the day when there are no more black-skinned people with that uniquely coarse hair that no one in the world has besides us.
I do not want to us to be that group that once existed in the past, and they look back on us as just a blurb in history.
Flag this
Me neither.
I enjoy seeing the differences in races. I too think it’s fabulous that we (Africans and African Americans) have features that are unque to our race…i.e. Asians-eyes, Indians-black hair, etc.
If we all became one huge melting pot, there would be no uniqueness. It would be something of the past.
I like things the way they are…immediately mixed, pure, distant mixture…it’s all good to me!

i think yara is so adorable. her complexion is perfect and i love her hair she is mixed race with an african american mom and a dad from iran in which he is very light skinned. jadagrace is mixed with african american and asian. she is very pretty both girls are beautiful. the post SAID NOTHING ABOUT RACE so how did all this come into the comments. its a new time ppl get it together.
Flag this
Is her father really Iranian? I’ve been wondering what a child having a African American parent and Iranian parent would look like… My bf is Iranian American
Flag this
She is the spitting image of her black mother lol. I’ve been wanting to see what her father looks like. Her brothers look like their mother as well.
Flag this
IMO, it looks like Jadagrace’s hair needs a trim.
Flag this
First off Yara, whose father is an Iranian-American and mother is African American is not light skinned but Brown, and it doesnt matter what her complexion is she is still a beatiful young lady as well as JadaGrace. Color only matters to some people and it seems as though you are one of those people. I dont know if you are light or dark but it doesnt matter because the issue lies within yourself, we are all brown just different shades as soon as people learn that they will be alright.
Flag this
I agree. But to that end, what are we supposed to do?
I feel like the damage is already done, and our perception of what is beauty is already ingrained. I don’t think the majority of Black people will ever love their natural texture of hair, nor will they love dark-skin.
I mean it makes me sad, that it is so ingrained in some people that they don’t even realize it. Imo, most in the Black community automatically call a child adorable or beautiful because she or he doesn’t look truly Black.
I feel like the racist White mentality from the past has won to some extent. I don’t think there’s any group as affected as the Black westernized people, who openly announce that they are not pleased with the features that make them a part of the Black African diaspora. I don’t even think we know it, but subconsciously we wish we were extinct.
I’ve heard little Black girls playing with they hispanic (i.e. mixed) playmates and wish their hair was like that. I’ve heard grown women who receive interest from non-Black men go gaga about what their kids would look like.
Black people want or prefer their children to have “good hair” and have narrower noses.
Maybe I’m a pessimist but I just think it’s too late.

wow…how did i just KNOW yall were gonna be talking about skin color the second i clicked the comments…
Flag this
Yara isnt light skinned! And like someone said she is the spitting image of her mother )and grandfather), who are both Black.
Flag this
ALL OF YOU PEOPLE ON HERE ARE COLORSTRUCK! ALL YA’LL TALK ABOUT IS HER SKINCOLOR! WHO CARES! JEEZ!
Flag this
I agree on 1 thing that race DOES matter. But what I disagree with is why are some of you hating on these girls, because they are mixed. SO WHAT! Personally, I don’t think yara is necessarily light skinned. All black people don’t have to be really dark, in order to be considered black. For example, our president, barack obama is mixed. Half black and white, the politicians don’t care about him being mixed. They still criticize him, because of what they see on the outside. And they don’t even call him the mixed president, they call him the black president. To most people Obama still looks black. Also, not all people have to be dark to be considered black. I have a relative who is all black. And she is a bit lighter, and has curlier and a bit softer hair, but both of her parents are black, even african. But she is still black. That’s what makes us black people so unique. We don’t have to be dark skinned and have kinky hair to be black, we are so much more than that.

thank you i don’t see light in not one of these little girl my cuz have two black mom and dad and she have long hair and skin is lighter than any white person i have long beautiful and the same color as yara and both my dad and mom are black but however my mom have a white grandmother and a indain for a dad that crazy no one is praise no one we just think both girl are cute that it…that all
