WNBA star Candace Parker now has a basketball court named after her! On July 30th, the basketball court at Spring-Field Park in Naperville, Illinois was renamed “Candace Parker Basketball Court” in a dedication ceremony that featured Candace, her two-month-old baby daughter Lailaa, and her husband, NBA star Shelden Williams.

Candace, who is a native of Naperville, was honored by the city of Naperville not only with a basketball court named after her , but also with gifts for little Lailaa!

  • Zee says:

I really like Candace’s outfit, but why do some ppl put shoes such young babies? Those thong sandals cannot be comfortable for a two month old.

  • Sascha says:

she looks like the daddy :)

  • MixtryMama says:

Oh so we can finally see her face and not just her forehead, like in the other post a couple weeks ago. :D

I see the baby looks more like her daddy. Poor kid. Hopefully time will reveal more of her mommy’s features!

    • Britt says:

I respect your post, but I think the baby looks great and so does the Dad, No he is not Brad Pitt or Tyrese, but he is a Tall, dark and handsome man, I have seen Sheldon and Candance on the bball circuit several time, and they are a class act, I pray that they stay humble and have a long and happy marriage, and more beautiful kids. Go Vow1S

  • phat-monkey says:

I just want to say the baby is cute, and people should not judge a baby…. how could you be so heartless! lets see you post a picture of you and your kid up here and then read the comments!!!!!!!!!!!!! and her HUSBAND may be ugly but at least she got a good man and she is not on bck wishing she was the person being commented on.

  • luvvieboo says:

What do some of u mean she looks like the dad? so what? That baby is gorgeous and her daddy is fine. Is it because she’s all black that it’s a problem with her dayum looks? Simple minded azz peeps make me sick, she is just as pretty as any other baby on this site. Just like some of u say Halle and others can dress her daughter in what she wants, so can Candace. Baby already have a silver spoon in her mouth, lmao, how many of ur kids have one in theirs? brush the haters off baby gurl, cause ur gorgeous.

  • msfletch says:

Love Candace! Glad to see she is showing her beautiful baby!! Also happy to see hubby is very supportive of her career as well.

  • Kaggy says:

I often read these comments that are here on this site. If you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all. I am a Candace Parker fanatic. She and her family has my utmost respect. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I call her my niece. Never have met her, but think the world of her. I was over whelm when I saw Lailaa’s pic. She is BEAUTIFUL!!!All you want to do is judge others, that you know little about. Only what the media tells you and show you. JUDGE NOT.
You don’t know no more about her than I do. I agree with Britt

  • Virgie says:

That baby looks like me at that age! She’s beautiful, African features and all!

  • Big Blue says:

The baby has Candace’s complexion and Sheldon’s looks.

  • issy says:

I know exactly how this little baby is gonna feel growing up, i have been there. My mother has features like Candace, you know, the “European” features i.e. the straight nose, wide-set eyes, thin lips, light skin and what not. From the time i was 2 till now believe it or not (im in my 20’s), people have been telling me incessantly oh wow, you dont look a thing like your mom..the way they say it is in this “Iam sorry” tone. As if i was done a grave misfortune by looking like my dad as opposed to my mom. Is it my “African” features that have people all discombobulated, i.e. my full lips, my wide nose, and dark skin???? hmm….i wonder.

I always wished i looked like my mother, sometimes people were shocked to hear that i WAS in fact her daughter because we look so different.Imagine for a minute, Vanessa Williams having Snoop Dogg’s little girl as her daughter. Two completely different looking people, that is basically how me and mother look like so you can imagine the comments and the question marks in people’s eyes when they realize that’s my mother.

I had one woman tell me: It’s a shame you dont loook like your mother you would have been so pretty….then she smiled at me as if i were supposed to smile back. That has been the story of my life for the longest and everytime i hear someone say: you dont look a thing like your mom..i know its a double entendre saying your mother is beautiful but you???

So to all of you people commenting, i know you think saying oh she look like her daddy is no big deal trust me, it can be a big deal because that might be something she hears for the rest of her life and something that she is gonna have to assess later on.

I had to realize that i am my OWN pretty; not my mother’s or anybody else’s.

Oh and another thing, i used Snoop Dogg’s little girl as an example only to illustrate/contrast how diff my mother and i look, in no way am i saying she is not beautiful because she is. Just for anyone who might misinterpret that.

    • hanaboo says:

true talk issy, i can’t believe how many people on this site practically call a baby or child ugly and think nothing of it! beauty is in the eye of the beholder, i don’t think the mans ugly anyway i dunno wats wrong with people! congrats to both of them, i just love their squishy lil baby lol shes lovely. fix up people and appreciate a nice family when you see one!

    • Jas says:

Well if people didn’t think before saying something mean about a baby I hope your story makes them think twice the next time. I’m glad in the end you were able to accept yourself just as you are and realize just how beautiful you are.

    • adeola says:

I AM SORRY TO HEAR THIS!!. I think black people prefer their women to have European facial Features than African facial Features.

    • issy says:

I appreciate everyone’s commments, thank you so much!!!! I hope other people can either relate or sympathize with my story and as a result that may stop them from making derogatory comments in the future.

One incident that has stuck with me for the longest was when my mother reconnected with a former friend of hers from high school (ex-boyfriend actually)and they were just sharing stories of how their lives were after high school.

My mother mentioned she had a daughter and he responded by saying : ” Oh wow, she must be GORGEOUS, any daughter of yours must be simply beautiful”

My mother answered: “YEs, she is, with a bright smile.

My mother then called me into the room to meet her old-friend….he had this big grin on his face anticipating my arrival, once i walked in his grin dissipated into this disappointed look. As if he were saying: “Oh, THAT’s your daughter”??

I introduced myself and sat down and i could see his eyes gazing at me in wonderement trying to piece any resemblance to my mother he could find. Finding none, he finally uttered: “WOW, you must look an awful lot like your dad…how, um, cute” !!

I gave him a fake smile and nodded, knowing full well what he meant by that comment as i had heard it so much in my short 8 years of life.

———-At the end of the day, words are swords and they can destroy, so i urge all of you to use them wisely. If i did not have a strong sense of self, i think those commentss would have effected me alot more and cause great pain!.

  • afterthought says:

    She is absolutely gorgeous!!

  • maria says:

I think Sheldon is jealous of Candace’s career. He NEVER looks happy when she is in the limelight. Hope he doesn’t think a kids is going to stop her.
