TAYE DIGGS AND WIFE BUMP AROUND TOWN
Actor Taye Diggs with his pregnant wife, Idina Menzel, were photographed leaving Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles on Sunday(August 8th, 2009).
The couple’s baby, whose name will not be chosen until after he is born, is due on Sept. 6.

Why does it matter? Are you questioning his blackness or something? Serious question. I didn’t mean to offend, but I just always see people jump to “self-hatred” because someone chooses to be with someone outside their race. I will never understand it. But I admit I am sensitive to it due to being a product of an interracial couple.
But to answer your question, apparently his girlfriend before Idina was black. They attended Syracuse University together and she was a dancer, like him. They broke up around the time he met Idina in RENT.
I recall him mentioning “reconnecting” with her when he and Idina split up before they got married because he was pictured with her or something. This was around the time he was on Ally McBeal. I just remember it because he was in People Magazine talking about being newly single, and as a RENT fan, I was a little annoyed by it, lol. But then he clearly reunited with Idina and the rest is history.

If I remember correctly he mentioned indirectly that they weren’t into him coming up or maybe even directly. I can’t remember the exact quote tho could have been women period in response to his being a sex symbol, that was years ago.
I think that’s one reason I love this couple because it seems to be real deal love we met in our fields dated married, not another black man going after a non-black woman because he wants anything but a black woman….could be wrong but that’s what I’m holding on to:)

He did say that. Taye grow up dancing, singing, and acting. He was short and geeky. Girls really weren’t checking him like that. And lets face it, during the early 90′s if you were a black man who loved the arts and weren’t rapping to the songs of Death Row Records, most girls weren’t checking you unless they too were doing what you did. They probably assumed he was gay. Sad, but true.

I think Taye has issues with black women and aren’t interested in dating them or marrying them. It’s probably one of those situations where, as was already said, black women weren’t interested in him for whatever reason (he’s too dark {before dark was was even ‘in’}, he was a geek, he was into the arts, wasn’t ‘hard’ enough, etc), so he started dating white and non-black women and stuck with that.
You can’t blame a brotha for going that way if black women aren’t seemingly interested in him at the time. Brothas aren’t bound to wait on a sista to notice him and neither are sistas bound to wait on brothas to notice them. Get yours anyway you can. I guess.
