KELIS IS SEEKING FOR MORE IN CHILD SUPPORT

New mom Kelis is seeking more in child and spousal support for her and her four-week-old son, Knight Jones. Though she was awarded more than $40,000 in combined child and spousal support last month, Kelis is asking the court to grant her additional income from her estranged spouse Nas.
According to documents filed by Kelis’ lawyer, Laura Wasser, rapper Nas earns $244,826 a month, while Kelis makes just $13,744 a month. Therefore, Kelis is asking for $17,225 a month in child support and $72,728 in spousal support. She’s also asking for retroactive child support of $29,522 and spousal support of $281,571.

Nas and Kelis are scheduled to appear in court in September.

i use to like Kelis but now i just see a dumb [CURSE OMITTED]…like 55 000 is not enough to live off most people dont make that much a year and now she wants more…for what ?….she should get a job and be a little more independent the judge would be stupid to reward her more child support!

She has a perfectly good income of her own, so why is she trying to take something that she is not entitled to?

The reason this bothers us is because as black people our parents (if you had a good upbringing) never told us to rely on men for our financial needs we were taught to be independant and take care of our own, to not depend on the income of others, kelis wernt a little secretery shes an artisist herself, she shouldnt be sucking the life outta her ex jus because he makes more money than her, he worked hard and earned that maybe she should try writing decent records n get back in the studio or perhaps get a 9-5 like everyone else..Nas aint her daddy…hes responsible for his kids (remember he already has a child from a previous relationship) and himself.
I ALSO agree with Stacy. It can be discouraging to see how sistas can come down on each other like this. Her (Kelis) situation is how it works in the real world when you have been married to someone who has cash and have had a child with them. If she is legally entitled to the money, she should go after it and receive it.
It is not a reflection of her talent or a sign of laziness. This is just how it is when you were in a relationship and/or marriage with an affluent person.
For those of you who have a difficult time with this concept, look at it like this…Let her get money for herself and for her child that so many women, of all races, do NOT get for child support and alimony (even though the court has deemed so).

Usually I’m not one for all the celebrity gossip, but after reading this Kelis needs some true intervention. Get a life, get a job, and get it together for your child. Too many women talk about how they are so independent, but turn around and want to depend on a man financially. Yes, Nas needs to support his children, but you are not his child even though she is acting as such.

I feel if she gets 89k or more, that would be a lot. She makes her own money yet she wants more from him. I do believe in men taking care of their children 100%, but she already gets atleast 50k. Exactly what are you buying for this baby? Some single women raise more than 1 child on wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy less.
