The custody battle between singer Tyrese Gibson and ex-wife Norma Gibson has been finalized. According to court documents, the newly-divorced couple will continue to share custody of their two-year-old daughter Shayla. As far as child support, Tyrese will continue to pay $6,230 a month for his daughter’s upkeep.
Tyrese will also continue to maintain possession of his home in Temecula, CA home and he and Norma will split up cars and assets. Norma, however, will not receive any spousal support.

To me this is more reasonable than the $55 000 awarded to Kelis; plus Tyrese’s wife doesn’t receive spousal support. This says to me at least she was reasonable in her requests.
WHAT?? She wanted way more….. Tyrese had a PRE-NUP. Alos, they weren’t even married for a year…..I dont even think it was that long. Something like 6-9mths. Kelis has been married to nas for like 5 years and they have been together I think for about 7. TOTALLY different situation. Did Nas have a pre-nup? I dont think so.
Well she was asking for more so he can’t be mad.
He doesn’t sound like the deadbeat that his ex-wife climaed him to be.

no offense to the mother but that little girl looks NOTHING like Tyrese,she doesn’t even look like the mother. Lets not forget that Tyrese a hot chocolate man and the mother is brown skin but they produce a bi-racial looking child with NONE of their looks?

Raven, genetics are a funny thing. To me, this child does not look “biracial.” She’s just fair skinned. I’ve seen many black children who look like her. Black folks look all kinds of ways. Haven’t you heard of two brown-skinned parents producing a light-skinned child? It happens because sometimes the gene pool reaches back to past generations. Just saying.
Actually, she does look bi-racial. I don’t understand why some black people are so in denial about some of their people being part white. Its nothing to be ashamed of. Most African-Americans are at least 20% white anyway.
That child does not look like a full black child as you are claiming. If you go to Africa and look at people who are 100% black (unlike most African-Americans), NONE of them will be this light skinned. Yes, pure Africans come in multiple shades as well, but none of them are that light. Maybe you’ll find someone that light in Ethiopia, but the people in Ethiopia also have arab blood in them.
Basically what I’m trying to say is: What’s so wrong about being bi-racial?
I see so many comments on this website with people getting offended when someone says that a child posted on here looks biracial. Why?
If you are a 5th+ generation African-American yourself, you are more than likely bi-racial too despite coming from two “black” parents.
Anyway, it shouldn’t matter. I’m a bi-racial woman myself (Black Father/White&Native Brazilian Mother) and I just find it a little offensive that so many black people are so in denial about people being bi-racial. Most of you, for some strange reason, want to believe that you’re only black. Why? I’ve also noticed that women on this website get excited when they see a black man with a dark skinned wife, and they’ll leave offensive comments like “Its so refreshing to see a black man go for a dark skinned woman and not a light skinned barely black woman or a white woman”. What the heck? How is that refreshing? Why does the color of someone’s skin even matter? People don’t choose who they love, and if two people love eachother and are happy together regardless of their races or skin colors, then you should be happy for them as well.
We are all humans anyway. Race shouldn’t matter.
Why do people always make this statement about Africans being purely Black. It’s such a bunch of crap. White man was in Africa just like America and he did his dirt everywhere he went. Get a Clue!
Why do so many people feel that it is an asset to have “white blood” as they call it? What’s the big deal? Does it get you anymore or give you a better life? Who gives a crap? The rule in America is “one drop of Black Blood, you’re Black” And there is the HUMAN RACE. One can be bicultural or multi-cultural but to be bi-racial you would have to be half human and maybe a dog or some other species that is not human. Learn the difference.
This is the most ignorant argument that never seems to end. Just be people and learn to love yourself without disecting each other. We, as a people just can’t seem to move ahead and away from this ignorance.

Who are you to decide what she needs? none of us were a part of that relationship and I get really tired of women deciding what other women need. Instead of standing up for each other we are always there to tear each other down. You never hear men talking about what other men need or don’t need. Maybe she did need spousal support maybe she didn’t, but we don’t know that. Lord knows the way these men make babies and move on leaving the woman with the real responsibilities of child rearing they need whatever they can get. Especially if the man is financially able to provide it. From what I saw in his financial breakdown, the child’s need come after what he wants. To me he has proved to be the typical “BABY BOY”. I bet he has a nanny when the baby is with him, because at night he has some partying to do.

Maybe, I just don’t see it. Tyrese isn’t brown skinned, he’s jet black. Halle’s baby is darker than her and she is no where near Tyreses complextion and the daddy is white and Halle is Bi-racial.

tyrese is NO WHERE near jet black!!! and shayla does not look like spanish or bi-racial to me either. she looks like a little light-skin girl. i know two girls that live down the street from me - i went to school with their father. his wife is white and he is black and they both look like black girls with light skin. they don’t have the bone straight white hair that most people think they should either.
Raven, to me, Tyrese is not “jet black,” as you put it. Like NeeNee said, he is dark brown/chocolate. I guess we all see things differently. Nevertheless, the one great thing about black people is that not only don’t we look the same, but we have varying complexions and features. Tyra did a show with a panel of women people assumed were biracial. Come to find out, they all had two black parents. Again, genetics is a funny thing. This child may look Spanish or biracial to you, but to me, she looks like some black children I’ve seen before. Who knows, maybe she favors her mommy’s side of the family.

Child support is based on the INCOME OF THE PARENTS, and how much that parent might spend on his/her child if the parents were still together. You think Donald Trump is only paying $6K a month for his daughter with Marla Maples?
If Gibson and the wife were still living together, the baby would be brought up in a nice home, with private school, etc. Just because the parents divorced, why should the child be cheated? That’s what the court is trying to address. Sounds like some would like to see these kids of divorced parents raised in some cheap apartment, just to get back at the mother.
My feelings exactly. And it seems it is usually always women who don’t want to see other women live well after a divorce. it seems so ugly.
Actually Tyrese is quite dark. My brother met him in person and said he was VERY DARK. My brother put quite a lot of emphasis on how dark he was like he had never seen someone that dark. The girl is pretty fair skinned but could still be his. You just never know. I think she has his face shape and his eyes. If he fought her on custody and money issues, I’m sure as hell that he was smart enough to get a DNA test done.

Such a shame, in this day & age black is still seperated into jet black, dark, chocolate, light, brown, yellow, caramel & almost white.

Excuse me. Did Tyrese and his wife create themselves? The baby does not have to look like either of them. If he went as far to have her sign a prenup, I’m certain he knows whether or not that’s his baby. As cheap as he is I’m certain he would have had DNA test so that he wouldn’t have to provide for the child. Please, he would use any excuse to give her nothing.

How do you know that? You should be glad to see a woman and child being supported by her exhusband/father. What about that makes you so mad. You don’t know what she needs to live the way he has accustomed her. Stop wishing other women bad and stand up for them. The next one could be you.
Monetarily speaking…It does NOT take 6,000/month to raise a child. Try being a full-time student for 10 years (I got my Master’s…then I went to proffessional school). I can assure you…IT DOES NOT take 6,000 a month. However, a reasonable approach would be to 1/2 the costs of the child’s needs as they occur. That money should be put in an escrow account and used only for the child’s needs. I do believe the amounts get more and more ridiculous. Next, someone will say that a child NEEDS 50,000 dollars a month. I could see if many of these women & a few men were putting efforts into their careers. Kevin Federline IMO (and we are all here to share them) should not have gotten a dime!
@The race:
Biracial…yes, a lot of these children are. There’s nothing wrong with that. The problem comes in when there are people who consider this “better than” another group of people.
People can’t choose of they love: When it’s NOT a choice this is true. But so many Black men say they date outside of their race b/c Black women are THIS OR “That”. THAT constitutes a Choice for many! There are 6 billion people on the planet. 1 billion are probably black…they have NOT met enough Black women to make these demeaning and HURTFUL statements. There is nothing wrong with falling in love with someone ANYONE. There is something definitely wrong when you go OUT OF YOUR WAY to make sure it’s NOT a person of your own color or creed. (Can we say self-hate anyone).
If you know the history of Blacks in America, then you would understand WHY so many black people want their brother’s to show some racial pride! and why the wrongs of the past still sting and guide our daily lives. Read your history! It’s a fact…not something we made up!
Color is an important part of who I am. For example, I can’t use the same shampoo as some other ethnicity…it would dry out my hair. I can not deny who I am just as I wouldn’t ask anyone else to deny who they are. We should celebrate our differences!
Obviously you had a different life style than a celebrity, so it is unfair for you to state what it takes for a celebrity to rear their children. Just because you did it doesn’t mean it doesn’t take more for her to rear her child than you. Since I am assuming that neither of us are of celebirty status; were I of that status, I would expect my child to have and enjoy more because her/his father has and enjoys more. That’s just the way I feel about it. I’m certain there are women who have had to rear their children while on welfare and did a very good job with that income. Fortunately, that is not her financial status. The more you have the more you owe. And this BABY BOY owes more to his child and his ex-wife. Maybe if he does his fair share he won’t be so tempted to make more children with more women if he has to take more responsible consequences for his actions. Let’s get real here. She is the one who will actually have the responsibility of rearing this child. As the divorce decree shows; he will pick her up in the morning at 11:00 and return her at four each day of the week-end that he has her; granting him sufficient time for his night time partying. Agreed!
To add, as far as brothers who choose to date outside the ethnicity, I forgot about them long ago. There’s no time to even consider them in your day to day. they date who they want and if they are happy so am I. I spent too many of my good years unhappy with those brothers. Of note, there are more successful Black American men married or in relationships with sisters. As Black women we must learn to move ahead and stop caring about those who try to find excuses by blaming us for their choices. More power to them!

Its a beautiful feeling to have a daughter, regardless of the babymama drama. I give Tyrese much respect. As long as you are there for yours, I can care less what anybody else has to say. Yea he might have had a bad past or what not and thats life, move on. If anything, his babymama need to get off her ass and get a job its 2009 and women is independent now days they dont need a man to take care of them. And $6K a month is ridiculous..
