A SPECIAL CAUSE FOR SOPHIE KODJOE
Actors Nicole Ari Parker-Kodjoe and Boris Kodjoe held a special “Cocktails with a Cause” for their daughter Sophie Kodjoe,4, yesterday( September 14, 2009). The special event benefited the Sophie’s voice foundation, an organization founded in honor of Sophie who was diagnosed with spina bifida at birth.
All proceeds raised at the “cocktail cause” went towards the organization’s first research project - a surgical trial which has the potential to change the lives of children and adults with spina bifida.
Spina Bifida is a developmental birth defect involving the neural tube: incomplete closure of the embryonic neural tube results in an incompletely formed spinal cord. In addition, the vertebrae overlying the open portion of the spinal cord do not fully form and remain unfused and open. This allows the abnormal portion of the spinal cord to stick out through the opening in the bones.
That is a beautiful family. My prayers will forever be with this
family.

God blessed me with a special needs child & God sure knew what He was doing because that child is the reason I was born. Words cannot express how blessed I feel having been chosen to be his mother.

Serena is trying to gain respect again by doing something nice after the way she acted on Saturday.
Yeah she should lock herself up for the rest of her life for making a mistake.
I hope Serena is lending her celebrity status and also giving her financial support to Sophie’s cause.

uhm, this isn’t the first time you’ve mentioned someone making fun of Sophie and so far, i don’t think anyone has… her condition is not unique and i think most decent people would know better than to make fun of a birth defect. just had to put that out there. instead of feeling sorry for her and her parents, perhaps give to this worthy cause. or donate to another one. or volunteer your time, which is something you can do for free. kids with spina bifida can go on to lead happy, healthy, and normal lives. her birth defect is not a death sentence. i’m sure it is a challenge for her parents to raise her, but i don’t think they would trade this experience and their daughter for anything in the world.

Hi, Ebony. Thanks for your kind remarks not only about Sophie but many of the other kids who you like or admire here at BCK. It’s really, really nice how you care about helpless little children with disabilities whether it be dyslexia, learning disabilities, emotionally or other physically challenging ailments or problems kids may have.
I just don’t like when you call people ignorant. I’m the type of person that if you think I’m ignorant about some topic, I want you to tell me what’s right or what I can do to correct myself…I don’t want to stay ignorant or stupid if I don’t have to, and can do something to correct it!
I wrote to you before, Ebony and I told you that I LOVE the positive statements that you make about kids who are pictured here. Just take your time when you write and try to stay positive and happy!

Ebony, you really hurt my feelings and I am stunned and saddened that all you gleaned ( paid attention to) in my plethora of compliments to you, was the sentence in which I used the word “mean”.

I’d like to know more about how Sophie is suffering from spina bifida. Most times I read that it comes with paralysis, yet I see she can walk.

Okay, why can’t Serena be there? Did it ever occur to anyone that she may actually be Nicole and Boris’s friend? Geez! Her behavior on last week has NOTHING at all to do with her coming out to support her friends and their child. Why does everything have to be a publicity stunt? Celebrities are people too. They have friends and family, too. They support those they love.
