RUSSELL SIMMONS: “MY KIDS ARE OFF LIMITS”

djimonrussellkids

A newspaper publication has  “dug a hole” into hip hop mogul Russell Simmons’ heart by implying that his daughters Ming,9, and Aoki,7, favor their “step-father” Djimon Hounsou over him. Russell took his blog on  September 18th to clear off a few things from his chest.

…[The NY Post] reported that my beautiful daughters, after their mother’s fashion show, “went straight up to Djimon Hounsou and gave him a hug, bypassing biological dad Russell.” I’m sorry but targeting my family, my kids who I love so very much and trying to suggest there is some underlying jealousy, favoritism or lack of love between my kids and I or any of that is low and extra dirty.

Djimon is a great father and step-father for my kids. And I try to be a good father that’s the reality. The NY Post tried to take an arrow to my heart and hit me where any father would feel the most pain, and at least for a moment, they succeeded. Sorry to tell the Post and the other sites that picked up this story, that there is NO story here to tell. My girls went and hugged and kissed both Djimon and myself, cris-crossing us equally at the same time. He and I are family. I even tell my lovely daughters they are lucky to have two fathers. It saddens me to know that so many people are comfortable making a living by selling pain.

It makes me understand how young celebrities get so depressed that they turn to drugs and other self destructive ways to dull their pain, when they read such trash talk about themselves at a time when they haven’t yet learned the tools that would allow these words to slide off their backs. To them, I say first try to meditate and become good at letting things go. And if it doesn’t work, as it didn’t quite work for me on this one, I invite them to use Global Grind as a place to let it out so that they can be free of it and clear up the air I set up GG for this purpose and it seems to be working. It’s fast becoming a safer and stronger place everyday for celebs to do just that. I realize that sometimes people need to get things off of their chests, lies that creep into their meditation and won’t be quieted until they are corrected. I guess that’s why I’m writing this blog today.

So, there’s my little rant that tells the world that I am human. I will now go back to work for my charities, businesses and just try to keep doing some good in the world and yes, let this go. Smile and breathe I always say…so I’m going to go and do just that. I hope you do the same.”

Good on you Russell. The media has been allowed to get away with this junk for too long & it’s time for celebrities to take their power back & for the media to learn where to draw the line. No one stops to think how they would feel were the shoe on the other foot. All the best to both families.

  • Mimosa says:

Wow! Saying his girls like their ste[-dad better is just… wOw! What a LOW BLOW!

  • camie says:

This is something we should be proud of, TWO strong black men who are giving a good image to how family life should be when marriages have broken down and you have different partners.
The fact that they hug both of these men means that the family are doing a great job and are putting their children’s needs 1ST.

AND Russells is right, that remark is the lowest and must have been very painful and i hope whoever printed it apologies.

His family should remember that when you are happy and blessed there is always people who will try to bring you down and the only to deal with it is to continue to shine !

  • Nanette says:

Yeah I went back and noticed that they did hug each one of them. I mean face it they do have two Father’s in thier life now. And I am sure they know that Russell is Daddy number 1. NY Post did cross the line on that one. But I have to say the few times I saw Rusell on TV with Kimora she was always giving hima hard time too. ALso Rusell how do you think women feel when you cheat on them or talk to several different women, Or how does it look to your kids when you are with different woman evey month.
I understand his feelings were hurt, but hey That’s nothing compared to what’s going on in the world the majority of the people live in. I watched a man, wife and children be evited out of thier home all they shi_ put outside with the police and all standing there, Who’s feelings do I care more about being hurt, Russell or this man and his small children. People are losing jobs, homes, this recession thing is real, I have never seen nothing like it. But I have sympthy for Mr. Simmons. And move on like he said.
As long as your kids and you know the real deal.

  • KfromPhilly says:

You kinda had me, UP UNTIL THE CHEAP PLUG.

  • ModelChic says:

Celebrity status or not, we all are human and we all feel pain. I’m sure Russell’s own shortcomings may haunt him…he doesn’t need a reminder that he is physically separated from his family and another man is living in the house with his children. But the situation is as good-natured, mature and respectful as it can possibly get between Kimora, Djimon and Russell. Therefore, the media should stop trying to plant a seed of animosity. I respect that Russell, who appears invincible has a soft area, for his girls especially. He is right; the media needs some ethical boundaries. It is never ok to use innocent children as a selling point for a story.

  • christine says:

Good for you Russell..I banded the Post a long time ago. I do not like reading the Post. I feel they are RACIST and never accurate.I am so glad that you have a good relationship with their step dad. Just call it a blended family. I know those girls love you, you can see it in their eyes.

  • Liane Allen says:

Lovely Russell simply lovely!! The vultures called the media love destroying lives and they don’t care if the victims are children or adults. Shameful! i guess the over look the good stuff one does.

  • melmel says:

That’s low and stupid on the media part to suggest such a thing! I know Russell Simmons is a good father and loves his girlz, so I wouldnt think otherwise. People always want to make something out of nothing, get a life!

  • Midnite says:

The media has been around before us will be around after us, And so far there is no law to stop or ban the press. The bottom line is teach your children not to believe everything they read, and trust what you tell them over some magazine, newspaper, or TV show. That’s life look what the media did to Micheal Jackson in life and death. once you are in the spot light it’s on. I understand where Mr.. Russ is coming from, but look what the media has said and done to so many, look how they talk about all the stars and thier kids. What can they do file a lawsuit, but the damage is done.

  • SuZSoPiSceS says:

Good job Russell!!Tell them idiots writing these stories.

  • universitychick says:

a few people pointed this out in the other post lol i feel russell tho

  • RacheyBaby says:

Congrats to you ModelChic!!!!! I know you have been waiting for that baby to come. I can’t wait til me and my fiance have our first one. But I’m trying to finish with grad school so I can get a good job support kids.

  • Tee says:

How interesting that he used this situation to promote his website Global grind. Very interesting

  • dree says:

Russell Simmons is a class act

  • Is It Racism? says:

I want to know has the media done this type of thing to Ashton Kutcher and Bruce Willis. I have noticed that anytime Black people are showing love to one another, the media likes to bring in confusion and taint a beautiful experience amongst people of color, especially Blacks. Tyra Banks stated that the media did the same thing between her and Naomi Campbell, and she did not understand why.

    • Midnite says:

Tyra also said on her show that Naomi Campbell was mean and made her lin the model world difficult, You know how SOME insercue black women can feel when another sister comes in with her stuff together, So you can’t blame the media 100%. They just reported how bad Naomi treated Tyra, Go back and watch the show, Tyra said she was terrified of Naomi. Until black people learn to respect one another and come together and support one another the media and every race will never respect us they way we crave so much for them to.

  • Sherley says:

Tell them Russell. They need to leave your beautiful, innocent baby girls the hell alone. The pap are always trying to mess people up. Dig into them Russeell…wellsaid.

  • tonya says:

The new York Post writers have a lot of nerve. I bet those people have 3 or 4 step-parents, and their biologicals didn’t care if the children were happy or not. This is the reason for the pitiful attack on Mr. Simmons extended family:FLASHBACK to their unhappy childhoods. I don’t see anyhthing wrong with extended family, or bonus parents as I am called. Children need as much love and support as they can get from the family support unit which enriches their lives’ immeasuribly.

  • Judd says:

The media will find anything to conjure up now..

Funny thing? my husband worked for Northrop Gruman for 20 years and they forced him into early retirement, we’re losing our home, my 15 year old son is going through really bad puberty and my entire family is going to be homeless very soon and the NY times needs to make up a scandal? Mr. Simmons, Kimora Lee and Dijimon seem to be doing what most blended families can’t or wont do, get along…. and some sick reporter needed to come up with some “ugly”, so that his or her segment could drum up some attention. Here is a tip, pay attention now this may go quick. “Use your degree wisely fool and report with integrity.”

News flash, call me I’m a sad story… matter of fact, there are 1000’s of “me’s” that need some help and someone to tell the world that we are drowning in our economy. Now leave Mr. Simmons and their family alone!

  • Raquel says:

That was just messy! the media pulled this stunt with Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidman as well. Messy, just messy. And New York press better than any other entity knows that Kimora and Russell don’t play bout they babies. They not only need to fall back but issue an apology as well.
