SHERRI SHEPHERD TO MOMS: GIVE YOURSELVES PERMISSION TO SAY DUMB THINGS SOMETIMES
The View Co-host Sherri Shepherd wants all women, especially moms, to give themselves a break!
“I just feel like we as women we are always trying to be so perfect. We try to be the perfect mother, the perfect wife, sister and it’s like we are falling apart because we are trying to be so perfect. I wrote this book because we gotta give ourselves a break.”
Sherri said she was inspired to write her new book “Permission Slips: Every Woman’s Guide to Giving Herself a Break” because on her third day on television show ” The view”, Sherri was asked whether the earth is round or flat and she nervously responded that she didn’t know.
“I was beating myself up until I got hundreds of emails from women going, ‘You know what Sherri? I don’t care if the earth is round or flat [either], I’m just trying to take care of my kid,’ ” she says. “And that’s when I realized, we just have to give ourselves permission to say dumb things, we have to give ourselves permission to feel okay and not beat ourselves up…”
Excerpt from “Permission Slips:
Going from wife to mother is a game changer. (Or girlfriend to mother. Or one-night stand to mother. No judgments here; things happen.)
We moms are backed into a corner. We want the best for our babies, and there’s no end to things you can do to make your child smarter, healthier, happier, and more successful. Here are just a few things that can freak you out during your pregnancy: mercury in tuna, hormones in the water, Baby Einstein–yes or no?
Plastic bottles or glass ones? What causes autism, ADD, ADHD, and asthma? How come pregnant women in Europe get to drink wine every day but I can only drink it once a week?
Fifty Web sites will give you fifty different answers. It’s not enough that you sacrifi ce your body and your life, now you gotta get an advanced degree in biology–while you’re throwing up.
And the kid ain’t even born yet.
Before you forget, write yourself a permission slip to give the baby tap water, from a plastic bottle. When we become moms, we become more responsible. When men become dads, they stay the same, which means they actually become less responsible.

why would i want advice from someone who has no knowledge whatsoever she is a former drug addict and has had many abortions. [last part taken out]
Tia, I can see your point, but people can change. It is hard especially when they were living so foul in their past lives, but I do believe in second chances–we all deserve one.
I won’t make any comments about in her own words “(having) so many abortions I lost count”–permission slips, much? and I did not know she was a former drug addict, wow.
Look at her now though, and yes, she is darn lucky to be able to have this what appears to be wanted child. Grace is good–but I still won’t be buying the book. Nada, don’t think so.
I think it’s kind of brave that she would put herself out there, and it’s also a sign of maturity. She doesn’t do those things anymore right?
I’m not a big advice taker in general, unless you are a professional in the area, but I don’t see how her opinions are any less valuable than the next lay person’s who has no authority on the subject.
Good point, Tia.
Obviously she has turned her life around. Give her a break. Thank God he forgets all of our mistakes and doesn’t throw them up in our faces. I like Sherri and am glad she has written a book and has a new show. I wish her many blessings and success!
so what if she has. that doesnt make her any less to give advice. it seems like she had went thru alot and sharing her experience can help someone. i thought it was completley rude of you pat to say she has had many abortions. where are u getting at?
Sherry has admitted to and has been open about having many abortions. I did quote her as saying she has had “so many abortions that she has lost count.” Google it. I am not God, but I was sad to see that. I will not get into any right to life debates here, but at any rate don’t believe that it should be used over and over again as a form of birth control…
I did also post that she seems to have turned her life around by all appearances, no one is perfect and we all deserve second chances.
I just don’t get why should would press a curl her little boy’s hair, lol. I tell you nothing makes sense.
that poor babys head WHY !!!!!! Sherry WHY!!!!!!!!
I believe those might be locks or twists?? His hair might be fine/wavy also…not a press and curl/shirley temple curl ‘do–though they look kinda like that–not a cute look on a boy to me, but its her kid, so…
And ahe sure says some dumb things!! Why is she being rewarded for all the horrible things she has done!
Hmmm….she didn’t know if the earth was flat or round? That level of ignorance shocks me.
This is why it is so hard for single black women to get ahead, because we are always hating on each other. So what she made some mistakes in her life…God gave her another chance, why can’t we? I think the boy is beautiful and his hair is nice. Straight caucasion hair is not good hair…Healthy hair is!!!
Tia,
You obviously got your information off the top of your head. Sherry has not EVER been addicted to drugs. In fact, her sister had the problem. Yes, you are correct she has had several abortions, but no drug addiction. Deformation of character is a legal defense, due to folks like you. I have attached an article, with the accompanying sources.

Shepherd said in a recent interview with Precious Times, a Christian magazine, that before giving her life over to God her self-esteem was so low that at one point she was “sleeping with a lot of guys and had more abortions than I would like to count,” EURweb.com reports.
She also spoke of having to deal with a drug-addicted sister, which only made her life feel more helpless.
“My sister was heavy into drugs, and we would have to go and get her from crack houses. I felt if someone killed me, it wouldn’t even make a difference,” Shepherd said. “God showed me that it would make a difference.”

I know you weren’t commenting to me, but don’t you mean “defamation”,
not “deformation” ?
And I just have to say that the added information you gave about Sherri Shepherd and her family still isn’t anything nice.
She needs to lose the rest of her weight at the top half. Her bottom so small but her top so big….. It’s unnattractive!!
You’re right. Or she should consider a serious breast reduction!
Man I like Sherri and all but not knowing the whether the worl is round or flat?!
Okay so we all have awkward moments, but unless you’re under the age of 5, you should know that the earth is round! You may not remember all the Presidents’ names in order, but darn it you know the earth is round! Shoot, you may not know the gettysburg address, but however, you know the earth is round! Does anyone else get what I am saying? This just proves my point that we have to do better! I don’t care how rich you are, EDUCATION is the key!!!
I agree, Toni. And imagine, she’s giving advice to us.
Who is her babies dad? He looks like Ed Lover.
ok mama i think it’s time for a hair cut seriously ….but he’s a
q-tpie
Listen we do not need anyone to tell us a women to try and not be perfect, we know that from using ordinary common sense. Even if one tried to be perfect at anything sooner or later he or she will fall apart or break. Therefore, the best thing in the world to do is to be human and to be yourself.
LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN, CAST THE FIRST STONE!!
