While on the Jimmy Kimmel show on October 15th, actor Taye Diggs had loads to talk about. The new dad spoke about his six-week-old son Walker Nathaniel, of course, and about placenta pills?

A Placenta Pill, according to PlacentaBenefits.info,  is dried up placenta that has been encapsulated. It appears that placenta pills have many benefits which include balancing hormones, increasing energy , and enhancing a mother’s milk supply.

“[My doula] asked us if we wanted the placenta afterwards, because there are crazy nutrients,” Taye said on the show. “During one of the classes, very casually, she said, ‘We can make the placenta into tablets you can take each day.’ And I look at my wife, ‘Are you crazy?’”

    That is crazy. And gross.

    He is gross, next………………..

I have heard of women doing this. I can’t see myself doing it personally, but I am not going to judge women who chose to do it. It has a lot of positives about it and I understand a mother willingness to try anything for her child. But like I said, not for me.

I wonder if Idina did it though. Kind of interesting how much talk this has lead too. I know a lot of Doulas who are happy (even with the negative feedback) that it has been the topic in mainstream conversation.

I don’t think it is gross… If you think about it we are the only mammals who don’t eat placentas after giving birth. The pills are said to help with Post Partum Depression and have many nutritional benefits. Its in a pill form - not gross only natural.

i don’t think its gross. its called glandular therapy. for example, if one has low thyroid, a natropath might prescribe thyroid glandular to balance thyroid deficiency. why is this gross when people eat sausage, popeye’s, and other animals raised and killed in completely filthy conditions?
