MARY LOUSIE PARKER: MOTHERHOOD IS THE BEST THING
Actress Mary Louise Parker says that motherhood is “best thing that’s happened to [her].”
“I’ll be the first to admit that it can be very hard to raise two kids, but I absolutely love it. I can’t imagine what my life would be without my children.”
Parker has a son named William Atticus, 5, with former boyfriend Billy Crudup, and a daughter named Caroline Aberash, 3, whom she adopted from Ethiopia in August 2007. Adoption was the “best decision I’ve ever made,” the actress said at the 5th Annual Worldwide Orphans benefit gala in October.
“She says, ‘I love you, Mommy’ and asks, ‘Do you love me so much?,’ ” Parker continued with joy. “She has a little bit of a speech delay; Amharic was her first language she heard. But she’s really indomitable. She’s really strong and she’s like a little warrior. She’s really amazing.”

Awww, pure love! We have had our daughter home from Ethiopia for a few weeks and she is such joy. I encourage everyone who can to give these beautiful children a loving home. You will be blessed immensely.

Congrats on your adoption! But I must ask why Ethiopia?? There are plenty of children right here who need a home to. I think people need to start looking in their own backyard first. You don’t have to go to another country to adopt. Adopt from home. Just sayin’

Love our country with all of its protections, rules, regulations and yes waiting periods for adoption, but…….. It is frankly easier and less costly in many cases to adopt children from other countries. And the horror stories with the adopted child being in a family for years, then all of a sudden the bio father or mother decides they want the child is less likely to happen when adopting from overseas.

Why not Ethiopia? A child is a child. Ethiopia was Kiki’s choice as it is mine…I am waiting for my daughter now. There are children that need homes all over the world…why don’t you adopt one? I’m just sayin’.
As people that have a heritage in Africa we want to claim the history, music, art, language, title (African-American), fashion and all that is good but we don’t want to claim the children. That is shameful. Regardless of if it is African, Haiti, Jamaica, Panama or the US they are ours and we all need to step up. A kid is a kid.

Tami- You answered beautifully! I always ask people like that, how many have they adopted. The world is our backyard. We are all of God’s children and he doesn’t discriminate by region.

I totally agree. I cannot stand when people say why not America. As if an American child is more important than an African child. That comment always makes me sick. They look VERY VERY happy in that picture. It’s really beautiful. When I’m ready for children I think I might adopt aswell as having my own.
