She plays the role of an abusive mother in the film Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire, but in real life, actress Mo’nique is a loving mom to her 19-year-old son Shalon and her 4-year-old twins Jonathan and David.

“My family, my babies, that’s my life,” says actress Mo’nique in a new interview with People magazine.

“Every single night, I put my twins to bed, and if I’m traveling, then daddy does it.” shares Mo’nique, who is married to Sidney Hicks. “Sid will wrestle with them, or we’ll all watch a movie. We keep the party going!”

Mo’nique, who has gone from a size 20 to a size 14 in recent years, says that she wants to continue to stay fit for her children.

“I laugh when people say,’ oh, you’re trying to get skinny.’  When has America considered a woman over 200 lbs. skinny? Am i trying to be healthy? Yes. I have beautiful children, and I want to live to meet their children.”

Movie Precious is now playing in a theater near you.

What Monique was only a size 20? I definately thought she was like atleast size 22. It’s nice she has slimmed down though, it’s good to be healthy.

It’s nice she has a great relationship with her kids. =)

  • Big Blue says:

I met Monique in person. She is a cool lady. She said she is glad that she has 3 boys because she does not know how to do girl’s hair. I can’t wait until Precious comes out here. I have never seen Monique play a serious role.

  • Teri says:

Some people say negative things about Mo’Nique, but I really like her. Yes, she can be loud, but that’s her. We throw around the term, “keeping it real,” and to me, she actually do. She does her. She’s not perfect (none of us are), but I like her style. She seems like a great mom, and if you watch her show, she seems to be down with her people.

  • Miss IT says:

MONIQUE IS UNIQUE, BUT I LOVE HER. I READ HER BOOK ”SKINNY GIRLS ARE MEAN” SHE WAS SO DOWN ON SMALL WOMEN. SHE SOUNDED AS IF SHE WAS ENVIOUS THAT SHE WAS NOT SMALL OR A SIZE 6 OR SMALLER. ALL THROUGH OUT HER BOOK SHE STUCK HER FOOT UP IN THE SKINNER GIRLS, AS SHE CALLS US, ASS. I DID NOT KEEP THE BOOK. I READ IT AND THEN SENT IT BACK TO MY BOOK CLUB CO. STILL, I LOVE YOU MO. GOD BLESS YOU.

  • DeeDee says:

i seen her new movie precious n i loved it. i couldnt wait for it to come out.its a real tear dropper, but it has humor to it also.its a must see cause she definately deserves a grammy

  • Sherley says:

Monique a size 20? Now a size 14? Wow, camera does add alot more pounds to a person.

Cannot wait to see precious. Been putting it off because it’s so heart wrenching, but I’ll toughen up & see it this weekend. I’ll bring a box of tissues, instead of popcorn & soda.

  • PregWeeks says:

I heard that Monique actually went in to labor when she was 29 p 30 weeks pregnant. I heard her say that on one of her comedy shows, or when she was hosting something. So for her boys to come out weighing that much was excellent. I had boy/girl twins at 33 weeks and 6 days. Yes I counted the days. I wish I was able to carry them longer but I had a quick onset of preeclampsia about 3 days before delivery and didn’t know it until my water broke.

It is good that she was able to lose all of that weight. It is hard to lose weight without surgery. Obesity causes preterm labor in many women. I’m glad she’s doing what’s best for herself and her family in order to live a long, happy life. Kudos to you Monique.
