“The New York Times sports page ran a photo of the shirtless new father with what appeared to be a white baby in his arms (and didn’t mention race in the accompanying story), it sent a slow shock wave through the African-American community, pitting supporters who celebrated the couple’s joy after three painful miscarriages against critics who branded the Wares “self-race-hating individuals” for ignoring the disproportionate number of blacks in foster care. The baby, now their daughter, Marley, is in fact Hispanic.”(Read More)

Charlene- You are 100% right. Unfortunately, our brainwashing has been so complete that most of us are completely unaware of what has happened. I personally know people who are trying to “eliminate” certain features by mating with caucasions. We actually are moving backwards.

Thank you! Nice to know everyone out there isn’t pretending not to notice what is going on. Everyone else is just making excuses because we are too ashamed to admit that we are racist towards ourselves.

You are 100% right. Some people are in state of complete denial. Our self-hatred is so ingrained that we are not even aware of it. So sad.

Solene, great post on all points. But unfortunately it is like talking to a wall despite several other postings that have provided further details regarding the Ware adoption.
Some of the ones harping the loudest are the very ones who have bought into the supposed “inferiority” of blacks and ARE the most insecure in their “blackness.” Sad. Yes, there are lingering self-hate issues in the community, but Charlene, and others with similar sentiments–your pulpits are surely missplaced as you are sadly starting to sound like the racist that you decry. I hope little Marley never has to be confronted by the likes in what should have simply been a happy adoption story for mom/dad and child.

I have read all the issues surrounding this adoption but my point is that there is a deeper issue. It’s not all just about this one particular case and I wish them all the best…they will need all the luck they can get. Sorry but I don’t think it’s racist to look out for your own first. For all of u who think I should go adopt a child just because I have an opinion: I am not a million-dollar football player. I am one year out of university. However I do intend to adopt at some point when I have a good home to offer a child and I assure u I will not look to adopt a white baby and depend on angelina jolie to help out the black kids. I don’t know what its like growing up as a white/latino kid. But I do know what its like growing up black and when I adopt and have my own kids I will do all I can to ensure that they attain the level of self esteem in childhood that it took me till adulthood to obtain….even if they will be growing up in a world where they are rejected by their own.

Dude, are you kidding me? White people adopt black children all the time. They found a baby and fell in love with her, but they shouldn’t adopt her because she isn’t black? That’s ridiculous. Stop being so afro-centric and realize that people are just people, regardless of color.

Shame on so many of you. They have fulfilled their dream of being parents. The circumstances of the adoption are not known. The baby is obviously not white. When adopting, people often want to feel secure in the fact that the baby’s birth mother will take care of their body while pregnant. This could be a situation of finding a birth mother that they felt comfortable with and not an issue of race. The possiblities are endless as to why they ended us with that beautiful little girl…a pregant teen at their church, a relatives baby… It just doesn’t matter.

” Sorry but I don’t think it’s racist to look out for your own first. ” — are u joking .. that is such a racist comment. but you only look at racism as a white person being racist against a black person. when by that comment you are being racist against white people. be happy for them they found a child regardless of the race and they love her and she will be raised in a loving home. dont be so closed minded and think that black people should only adopt black people or that they should only mate with other black people. there are many mixed races in the world not just black and white, does that mean they are running away from “negative features” give me a break. open your mind, and be happy for them.

Looking out for your own first is not racist. No one questions why 99% of white people mate with other whites. It is considered normal. One of the reasons whites seek out other whites to mate with is because they want to have white children. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Black people on the other hand are always looking to “improve”. Whites already believe they are perfect.

Wow! If that’s not racist, I don’t know what it is! Plus, where does the 99% come from? And I know a lot of white people who would kill for a biracial child, so you’re obviously wrong!
Whites already believe they are perfect? What the hell?

According to the latest census, 99% of white women mate with white men. 98% of white men mate with white women. You say you know a lot of white people who would love to have a bi-racial child. It is very easy: mate with a person of color. This country has over 75 million of them!
