Have you seen BCK’s slide show featuring NFL player Demarcus Ware and his family or were you too busy arguing? The slide show is featured on the homepage. Enjoy!
Meanwhile, it appears that the Ware family is a hot topic on Blackcelebkids.com. Click here to join in the conversation
Also, check out the following article by Tony Dokoupil of Febone1960.net. Tony writes:
“The New York Times sports page ran a photo of the shirtless new father with what appeared to be a white baby in his arms (and didn’t mention race in the accompanying story), it sent a slow shock wave through the African-American community, pitting supporters who celebrated the couple’s joy after three painful miscarriages against critics who branded the Wares “self-race-hating individuals” for ignoring the disproportionate number of blacks in foster care. The baby, now their daughter, Marley, is in fact Hispanic.”(Read More)

I think the pictures are beautiful. In the New York Times article it said a friend of the Ware’s who is a minister suggested that they adopt a baby from a woman due to give birth soon.
As a church going woman I would consider that request coming from the LORD himself. I could not say no!
I am a New York Giants fan and I can’t stand the Cowboys organization but Demarcus and his wife make me proud!
God bless the entire Ware family!

Wow, she has really gotten big since the last pic I’ve seen of her!
And as far as the “conversion” about then on the last post…. I really wish people would inform themselves of the FULL story before the pass judgement (not the they really have the right regardless).

Then you should go adopt you one then…..

I agree

@ Melissa–The Wares didn’t say they didn’t. They left the politics out of it (read the WHOLE backstory to their adoption) and so should you.

How about let’s say that all children need homes!! I dont’ care what color a child is as long as they end up with someone who will take care of them.

Thanks BCK for sharing the slideshow. Marley is so precious.

WE DON’T SEE ENOUGH BLACK CELEBS ADOPTING BLACK CHILDREN…YES
THERE ARE THE RICHIES AND THE WARES AND LOOK AT THOSE MIXED OR HIS
PANIC GIRLS. WHY IS IT THE WHITE CELEBS LIKE MADONNA AND BRAGELINA
ONLY ADOPT THE BLACKEST CHILDREN? YES WE CAN GET ON THE HIGH
HORSE AND SAY IT IS A CHILD IN A GOOD HOME SO WHO CARES BUT WHO
CARES ABOUT EBONY MALIK OR MALEKA? LET ME SEE SOME BLACK STARS
SPORTIN THEIR EBONY ADOPTED BABIES UP ON THEIR SHOULDERS!!!!

Well, in your first comment your point was “black children need homes too.” So why is it a problem that Angelina, and Madonna are adopting black children? They’re giving them a home are they not?
And I don’t know why people are so up in arms about Marley’s adoption! Everyone is acting like this is the norm…that EVERYDAY we see black families adopting white and hispanic children (when that it clearly not the case)!
MOST black adoptive families DO adopt BLACK (and mixed black) children! So people need to tone it down on that front.

Shaunie
I dont think she was talking about Madonna and Angelina in a bad way. I think she was just sayin how come white celebs adopt black children but black celebs dont.
Flag this
Melissa I understand where your comin from. But what about Rev. Run and Justine…they adopted lil Miley. I just don’t understand why white folks can adopt Black sometimes African babies and there applauded like their doing the Black community a favor. But when Black fams adopt a non-black child they are looked at as though they are ashamed/hate their race. This is ridiculous. Let’s all be Happy that Marley is in an environment now where she can grow up and be happy.

I def. AGREE with you DSC!! iT shouLdnt maTTer where Race comes in pLaCe! as long as that chiLd has a happy home..people dont need to worry about “black” this and “white” this sheesh.. but Neway this is a beauTifuL little baby!

Melissa look at Rev Run and Justine. Their adopted daughter is black. They went where no one else has gone to share their story. I think that u have hang ups. Who cares what race this little girl is. Is is loved and beautiful.

Serious question: What exactly counts as a “Black Celebrity Kid”?
Flag this
Ditto.
Having black parents doesn’t make you black. Just like little black kids with white parents aren’t white. Than again there aren’t White Celebrity kid blogs.
This blog should be for BLACK KIDS only, she is a little hispanic girl, let the Latino blog feature her. I don’t like the fact that she is wasting blog post on this little non-black girl. She is a cutie but she can be cute on another blog.
Flag this
Therein in lies the beauty of this site. So in fact the beautiful child above is not “black”, but she is the child of a black celebrity! The beauty about the name of this site is that it allows people to look beyond what it means to be “black” in America. I don’t think people get that about this site, but i do.
For example, Angelina Jolie and Brad are both white but they have a brown child. so their child is a black celeb kid. Demarcus and wife have a hispanic child, but Demarcus is a Black celebrity with a kid.
Being black is so much more than someone being brown..As you have seen on this site, there are a myriad of beautiful colorful children on the site. It is hilarious to read comments about a child not being black enough etc…BCK is laughing at us somewhere….
Flag this
get over yourself. there is nothing wrong with her being posted. so what if she’s hispanic, her family is black so she should be welcomed to the black community.
Flag this
I agree and between me and you, I think Demarcus knows that she is really his biological daughter. She looks like him, just lighter.
She’s a lucky little cutie! She’s rich (materially) because of her Dad (almost a 100 million dollar contract, hope he stays healthy) and she’s getting tons of love, affection and attention which we see in the photographs.
Hope this family stays healthy, wealthy and strong.
Flag this
To me, a black celebrity kid is :
1) The black child of a celebrity (black or not)
2) The child raised by a black celebrity
3) A famous black child or teen
Precious baby girl!

The little girl is not a BLACK celebrity kid so I don’t think she should be on here.
Let the SPANISH celebrity kids post her there, she shouldn’t be on here because she is not black. Black parents or not, baby girl your spanish. Let them support you and put pictures up!

That is the problem with our community, we are quick to judge others for not doing what we think is appropriate but yet sit back and not do anything to improve the situation. You should be ashamed, this is an innocent child your baggering. Instead of hating on this child for the happiness she has given this couple, appreciate that this is one less child who has to suffer. If it truly bothers you that so many black children are in foster care, go adopt one. Instead of complaining, do something!! As for her being shown on BCK, plenty of children who aren’t of African-American descent have been shown on this website (Heidi Klum’s daughter is Caucasian who has been adopted by a black man). Stop with the crab in a barrel syndrom and grow up.

So Raven what are you saying. Are you saying that just because this little baby is not black that they shouldn’t put her picture on here(even though she has black parents). Idk sounds a little bit racist to me.
Flag this
wouldn’t that mean the whole concept of this site is racist? I mean why don’t they put up Julia Roberts’ kids? Or Gwyneth Paltrow’s?
I think it’s funny that people come to a site DEDICATED to BLACK people and complain about race being brought up.
The whole concept of this site is to focus on race, specifically the Black race.
I mean I can understand if we were on [another] Baby Blog or something, a site that is supposed to be about ALL celebrity babies, and all the commenters kept bringing up race, but I can’t understand how some people would find it strange that people are talking about their opinions on Black people on a site about Black people.

Gorgeous gorgeous family! Marley is such a beautiful little girl and the Wares look so happy to have her. I pray that Marley won’t have to deal with people like some of you. Can you imagine being told that your parents shouldn’t have adopted you based on your color? “Hispanic” isn’t even a race (it’s a culture) so for all we know little Marley could very well have (some) black ancestry.
My distant cousin has adopted TWO white children. She fostered them since they were babies and was the only mother that they ever knew. My little sister has a a bi-racial (half black, half white) friend named Zoe. Zoe was fostered and adopted by a black woman. When Zoe’s mom found out that Zoe had a half brother who needed a home, she jumped at the chance of keeping him with his sister. She didn’t care that Zoe’s brother was white and not mixed like his sister. Neither my cousin nor Zoe’s mom planned or sought out adopting a white child/children. God, however, must have had a different plan. He placed those babies in their lives and now they are in their “forever families.” I hope that the people who want to specify what race a person adopts (like it’s any of their business) are planning to adopt. Like Ghandi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Beautiful! I just adopted a daughter from Ethiopia and I will tell you that finding a country to adopt from was NOT easy. I actually looked at Guatemala. I wonder how many ppl that have an opinion have bothered to adopt or even give a DIME to the orphans…. Kudos to The Ware’s she is quite a little darling
Flag this
Congratulations on your new daughter! I’m praying no one comes and harasses you for adopting outside of the U.S., not that it’s any of their business. But some people on the site are just…well, you’ve seen for yourself.
Flag this
Wait, did only 3 people read the back story of Marley’s adoption? Their pastor approached them about her (the baby’s) birth mum needing a home for her then unborn baby and the Ware’s were asked if they were willing to adopt the baby. They didn’t go shopping around for a ‘white’ baby or pass over black children for this one. A child needed a home and they provided one.
Would some of you criticising their choice have preferred if they said, “Thanks but no thanks, Reverend. It’s all black or nothing.”?
Flag this
There are some REALLY stupid folks on this site! I bet none of you nay-sayers would even qualify to adopt a child. Bless this GORGEOUS family. Mr. Ware is a prime example of how a family man should be.
Flag this
LOL!!!! Nor would they be willing to open their home to a child in need. If people are so worried about all the Black motherless children in foster care then I say run down there and apply to adopt as many as you can handle.

Uhh you guys haven’t you noticed that she looks like him.. Just a an observation..

Just like him. The jawline and the nose

Bet you these same anti-White baby folks, have never tried to adopt a Black baby, never given money to an orphanage, never contributed money to these various funds to send a Black kid to summer camp.
It’s so easy to condemn others, to spew out racial hate against a baby, whose only crime is to be born a different color, when this is used against Blacks we condemn it and scream racism, but now some of us feel free to drink from that same “hater-aide”.
Please stop hating on a little innocent baby, that baby’s only color is “love”.
Flag this
Ditto Nikki!!! The baby was adopted by a black family in love so what is the DEAL about the baby being posted???? So funny how people have smart comments to make about the baby being posted but, I am sure that Most will not entertain the thought of adopting a Black baby from foster care.

Marley is a beautiful child, and I support the Wares in their decision to provide her a loving environment. @Raven, not that race or ethnicity is relevant, but Hispanics can also be of African ancestry, and regardless of the baby’s heritage, she has every right to be featured on this site!

This country and its obssesion with race sucks, Who cares what race the baby is, This couple had a chance to give a child a home and they did! This country will always be behind the rest of the world with its over concern for race! Catch up people because to the outside world looking in We are the idiots of the world! Look how long it took us to get a black president!

I must have missed something..has England, Germany or Ireland, just to mention a few other countries, had a Black or any other race elected as their leaders?
I think the USA is far more progressive in putting people of color in office. There will NEVER be a Black Prime Minister of England or any Black Royalty there.
Give our country a break. Love it or leave it.
Flag this
There is a huge difference between the US and the Europe…black slaves and white colonists helped to build this country that was stolen from the original natives. Blacks in the US were denied their rightful roles in governing this country due to hatred and laws passed by the government.
The white people of England and Europe are the original inhabitants that will never allow immigrants to take over their country.
England is an old world country that founded the USA and dominated most of the world…blacks go to Europe and England as immigrants–so the same way that the US will no time soon have a Mexican president, is the same way a black person living or born in England or Europe will never be prime minister…
When I came to this country, I was blown away by the dislike of Americans for each other. So yes, both blacks and whites in the USA have a legacy of hatred that will never go away–it taints everyone that comes to this country because no one lets it die.
Flag this
Winnie..Well said and I agree with you. The colonization of America and the slave trade which all started in England is the genesis of American issues of race clashes to this day.
Flag this
honestly……. i would adopt any child black, white, yellow, tan, pink purple, makes no differences to me. and i don’t think the child would mind… all they want is a loving home and family. i am a black woman with 2 black kids of my own… but if one day it were in gods plan for me to take care of a kid a different race… i’d do it without hesitation.
there’s a lady at my church who is black and her 4 year ol daughter is white. my aunt is black and has adopted 2 daughters 1 being black and the other being hispanic.. do we look at them any different then we do our own? of course not.. sometimes we waste our time trying to preach to dumb ass ignorant people. i’m so proud of this family they look great!! he’s her daddy regardless of what color she is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After hearing of the tragic death of a beautiful little girl sold into prostitution by her OWN BIOLOGICAL MOTHER, I’m happy to see this or any other child (regardless of race/creed/color, whatever, in a loving home. I do overstand people’s point regarding the adoption of black children. I really do. However, every child deserves to find a loving home to abide in instead of in the hands of those who should NEVER be able to become parents. The pain of infertility that Mrs. Ware experienced must’ve brought her and her husband much anguish. I’m happy for them that they found a child they can call their own.
RIP, Shaniya Davis!
P.S. I’m sorry to bring up such a negative story, but I feel it had to be said in light of all the arguing.

Teri, it is so heart breaking about Shaniya Davis. May her little blessed soul rest in peace.

Pisces, yes it is! Isn’t it one of the most heartbreaking stories you’ve ever heard. My heart aches for that poor, innocent, trusting baby. How can someone do these horrible things to a child? I just don’t understand it, Pisces. My mind cannot wrap around this horrid act. I don’t want to turn this positive post into something negative, but I though about Shaniya and her family and how blessed this (the Ware’s) are to have a baby of their own.
I hope all is well with you, Pisces
Flag this
Teri, you are so right and I love the way you are always a class act when you comment. You always elevate and edify the topic. Even though little Shaniya Davis wasn’t the child of a celebrity, you could see in her Dad’s wrenching interview that she meant the world to him.
She became a little celebrity in the news for a minute, but in a way that no parent or any sane person would ever want.
Thank you for acknowledging her passing and brief existence, Teri. It’s sweet that you would mention cute little Shaniya on a blog featuring children.
Happy Holiday Season to you and yours, Teri!
Flag this
Pisces, well thank you for the compliment! I try to keep it on the up and up, give my opinion and all. I tend to be a bit opinionated, but I don’t want to come off like a jerk
I had to mention Shaniya because of all the arguing going on here. I havent been able to shake this. I know people are entitled to their opinions and race is always such a hot topic.
It’s funny, Pisces, because some people are actually blaming the father for this tragedy. I’m sure if he knew what was to come, he would’ve NEVER put that baby in harms way. Like you stated, you can tell he adored his daughter. Hind sight is always 20/20. My heart cries for him and all Shaniya’s loved ones who actually cared for and loved her.
You are such a SWEETIE, Pisces! I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season as well.
Again, sorry everyone for getting off topic.

I’m African-American and I congratulate the Ware’s on their beautiful family. No one knew their plight to have a baby. I’m happy for them. I’m just happy to see an African-American athlete with a brown skinned wife and we all know that is a rarity. Maybe an African-American baby wasn’t available and with adoption, a lot of mothers change their minds at the last minute when it’s time to give up the child. I wish the Ware’s nothing but happiness.
Flag this
I agree and let us not forget how rich they are (refer to his contract). I hope they provide nicely for this baby and that they adopt 5 or 6 more of any color from the USA.
Flag this
As an African American Foster Adoptive Parent also in the state of Texas as the Wares, let me say that when you want to adopt a child who cares what color the baby is.
The biological mother of that baby brought her to the Pastor because that she could not care for her. At the same time the Wares had just gone through another miscarriage. The pastor asked the Wares if they would be willing to take the baby and by God’s Grace they said yes.
People who believe that there are a lot of African American children available do not realize that most of those children are over the age of nine or live in the southern part of the state.
If you have not had to go through the adoption process then you have no idea what is right or wrong. A child does not care about your color they want to be in a happy, safe home where they can be loved.

maybe but does it really matter, sometimes i wish people were color blind.
this is a beautiful baby. i’m glad she found a happy home. here parents love her and that’s what important.

Melissa – You are 100 percent right. Unfortunately, MANY of us are in denial. The truth is that countless African-Americans dream of having children who look just like this child. Self-hatred is extremely powerful because it is something people never admit.
Flag this
I love this family! It’s great to see two people in love who want to share that love with a child. That is one blessed little girl!
Flag this
I think the problem that some people may have with this adoption is with the skin tone of the baby. Social workers have said that they have EXTREME difficulty getting African-Americans to adopt dark skinned children. They typically express an interest in adopting children with light skin only. The politics of skin shade affects us all. All one need do is look at the terms used to describe Halle Berry’s baby on this site and ask themselves when was the last time they heard a dark skinned black baby referred to as “the most beautiful baby I have ever seen”.
Flag this
I’m sorry, but would people have felt better if the mom was hispanic. No, because then you would of been complaing about him not marry a black woman. I really don’t understand what race has to do with it. It’s about God finally blessing them to have something that they felt like they would never have and that’s a baby. So are ppl saying this baby doesen’t a happy family and good life just as much as the next because she’s hispanic. I don’t think God will judge them for not adopting black so how can anyone else? God never told us there was a color to love!

Exactly. And none of these people are adopting and child of any color.

These comments are making me so sad! It’s about time that the world sees that black people adopt too, and that we adopt children of other races, no matter how rare it is! This little girl is BEAUTIFUL and instead of fighting about if she should be on this site or not, let’s be happy that she has had a second chance at life *because who knows how her life would be had she not been adopted* and that the Wares were loving enough to accept this little girl. Sometimes we make such a big deal of the smallest things!

I am very happy to see this portrayed because it is hard enough for anyone to adopt let alone a black family of a child of a different nationality. I am very happy to see the portrayal that a black family can be wonderful parents to a child no matter what the nationality is. She is a beautiful child and deserves to be on blackcelebkids and any other blog that represents children with strong, professional parents. She happens to be of african american and hispanic origin. So, I suppose Mariah Carey does not deserve to be on the cover of Ebony or Essence magazine??? Reverve racism is just as bad because it feeds the seed of hate. Best wishes to the Wares and many blessings to you and your family.

IF SO MANY OF YOU THINK BLACK KIDS NEED HOMES, PLEASE GIVE THOSE CHILDREN A LOVING HOME. I DONT CARE WHO GET MAD…..MAJORITY OF TIMES THAT A BLACK CHILD/CHILDREN GET ADOPTED…IT IS BY SOMEONE WHITE. I REALLY DONT GET THIS DISCUSSION AT ALL. SURE IS SOME TWO FACED PEEPS ON THIS SITE.
