A TYPICAL CHRISTMAS WITH KIMORA AND FAMILY
Do you wonder what Christmas will be like for Baby Phat Ceo Kimora Lee Simmons, and her children Ming,9, Aoki,7, Kenzo, and her husband Djimon Hounsou? Well, wonder no more!
By Alison Prato of PageSix magazine: A typical Christmas morning starts with the kids opening up their presents (everyone—including the girls’ godmother, Tyra Banks, sends loot). This year’s wish lists include fashion books for Aoki, “who’s obsessed with Coco Chanel,” and gadgets for Ming, although Kimora draws the line at cell phones. “We don’t do phones. Not until they’re much older, like 12 or 13. They don’t have TVs or computers in their rooms either. They watch less than an hour of TV a week.”
Every Christmas, each kid gets an engraved ornament, a holiday tradition that Kimora has kept since she was a child in St. Louis. “It was just me and my mom growing up, so that was our tradition. I still have every ornament from every year. They’re all so neat.” Her favorites include a Barbie Nutcracker ornament and a limited-edition Muhammad Ali piece.
After exchanging gifts, the gang delivers food to local charities and then gathers around the table for a lavish meal—although Kimora won’t be cooking. “I bake, though,” she says. “I make a great German chocolate cake. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m a great baker, the best. When I bake something, I swear to god, it’s gone before it hits the plate.” Spoken like a true grande dame.

Kimora is such a good mother! One hour of TV a week! no TV or cell phones? It is hard enough dealing with these things in the real world but in hollyweird? I always thought she was a good mother, but now I tip my hat. I woman after my own heart.

There’s my lil’ man–shugha bear.
I think that is great that Kimora seems to be trying to ground her daughters even though they are much wealthier and worldly than the average family. No cell until 12 or 13, limited tv and computer sounds like a plan to me.
Yes, I want to see Kenzo’s first Christmas pics too. I would spoil that little guy rotten.

i dont believe that for one sec that they only watch an HOUR of tv. she is on the road most of the time who knows what happens when she is not there,

She knows what goes on in her house when she’s not there. It’s called a NannyCam..lol Let me tell you if you were in charge of her kids and didn’t want to lose your job you would follow her rules as well…lol
It’s not hard to limit a childs tv time when you have a ton of other activies for them to do. Like swim lessons, sciences projects or ballet class.
Most of us use the tv to babysit our kids. I know I’m guilty of it. I’ve sat my child down in front of Sid the Science Kid a few times just so that I could get the clothes ironed, dinner cooked and the bathroom cleaned.

Right on. Those of us who were servantless parents had to do it sometimes to get other stuff done. I agree with you, if you have lots of activities planned for your children, there is little time for TV because they are too busy experiencing other things. But the help knows better than disobey Kimora if they want to keep their jobs. And you forgot to include the “spa days” for the girl. I think that it is wonderful to expose the girls and give them so much to do. That’s why I often wonder why others who have the money can find nothing to do but push their children towards singing careers that take them into such grown-up settings. Children need to be allowed to be children and develop. Even the Smiths take that into consideration in working with Jada and Willow. None of their endeavors push them into adult situations; they are still children without grownup poses and all that stuff. I thought that’s what the “parents” worked for to be able to give their children a life of experiences that promote their welfare and build their characters, not to start them working straight away like children whose parents can’t afford these things for them. I guess it’s just the difference in parents.

GOOD FOR HER AND HER FAMILY. I am glad to read she does not allow her girls to watch to much TV or have cell phones yet. I use to think they were to grown. but I was so wrong. Got Kimora all wrong.

Adorable family…but less than 1 hr tv a week, Id probably go crazy, but for small children with all thats on tv nowadays its a good idea if brought up that way, forces children to become more creative with their time.

The little prince is beginning to look more like daddy.

It’s true he is looking more like his father:) The weird thing about it though is I also think he looks a lot like Aoki but she looks like her dad to me. Genetics is a funny thing:D

Not everybody is addicted to television. There are many other things a person can do than sit hypnotized in front of the TV. I applaud her!

They’ve even pushed adults like me to find many other things by signing up all these reality shows. I don’t need to look at anybody else short comings and problems, I have enough of my own. The day of just sitting down for an hour each night to watch a good sit-com or drama are growing rarer. TV was supposed to be an escape. LOL

maybe she meant in a day instead of week??

I believe the 1 hour a week thing, it’s doable. Many parents these days that aren’t even celebrities are opting for less television for their kids… less TV -> better attention span -> better ability to retain information -> better grades at school. Generally, anyway. Madonna’s doesn’t really let her kids watch TV either, and I personally know other mothers who are doing the same thing. So I believe it.

how do u not watch tv

It’s a lot easier than it sounds, especially if you have access to books and other things that encourage imagination and learning. I didn’t watch much tv as a child, and I doubt I missed much.

Id hate to not be able to watch tv

Kudos to Kimora. Keep those divas in training active! Too many parents have gone the route of allowing tv to raise their kids and lord knows ain’t nothing worthy on tv for them either. Even cartoons have gotten violent and overly adult. The tube is just killing brain cells. Love it when celebs set boundaries for their kids and don’t buy into the civilian mentality a.k.a non-celebs that everything is ok for a child to do or have simply because they come from money. A priviledged child with no structure or boundaries is a disaster waiting to happen with [site omitted] in the bushes with the long lens!

You have to think about all the extra curricular activities these girls are probably involved in. They probably get home and don’t have much time left to watch tv anyway. I used to babysit a little girl whose mom didn’t allow her to watch much tv. You’d be surprised at how creative kids are once the technology is turned off!

My daughter is five and she had absolutely No exposure to T.V until she was 3. At 5, she is allowed 1!! 30 minute video oer week. She is outgoing, exceptionally smart, creative and very independent. Kudos to Kimora!
