NIK PACE AND BRAYLON EDWARDS’ CHILD SUPPORT WOES

nik

America’s Next Top Model contestant Nik Pace  is suing New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards for up to $70,000 a month in child support, reports the New York Post.

Nik, who was a finalist on Tyra Banks’ show in 2005, gave birth to her first son Braylon Jr. in August of this year in Georgia, but is suing for child support in NY.

Nik’s lawyer, Raoul Felder says, “Braylon had tried to get the case litigated in Georgia because they are traditionally less generous with child support payments. It’s a cold, calculated act to pay less money.”

“But we had the case dismissed in Georgia and moved [it] to New York because this is where Nik lives. We served Braylon in the past week. He can run, but he can’t hide.”

A source, however, claims that “Nik’s main home is in Georgia, she is registered to vote in Georgia, and she gave birth in Georgia, which is why [Braylon] immediately asked the courts in Georgia to recognize him as the dad.”

“She only moved to New York in November after he was traded to the Jets. He wants to be part of the child’s life, but she wouldn’t even tell him where or when the child would be born so he could be there. He wants to provide for his son. He has been paying support since the birth.”

Edwards’ lawyer, Randy Kessler, says that “Braylon is a proud father who has loved and supported his child since before he was born. He filed in June to declare himself the legal father and she objected.”

She don’t need all that money to raise her son. Too much money she is asking for from him.

Another he say, she say situation. At any rate, $70K a month?. I’d thank my lucky stars to pull that down in a year. I have never heard of this guy, is he really worth that much?

I am leary to comment because I don’t really know the situation between these two, but from the looks of it–will say this, some of these men need to stop acting so recklessly (that is why it hard for me to feel sorry for them) and stop knocking up these “womb-2-cash” players. I know my words sound harsh, but it seems it is becoming big business to get knocked up by some errant jock, celebrity or politican. But I guess as they say, I shouldn’t hate the player, but the game..the recession as someone pointed out is a motha’ out here — Starting to make me think perhaps I am the dummie and Maybe I am in the wrong trade…lol

I 100% agree with everything you said. These athlets are reckless as hell and then wanna act shocked and appalled when they get caught up and a groupie gets knocked up. Unprotected sex is dangerous and a child support suit is the least of the problems that can come with it. I guess Magic Johnson’s situation didn’t teach these guys a damn thing,

@AJA I couldnt have said it any better! Anytime you sleep with someone you have a 99.999 per cent of conceiving a child. Hope they can work it out cause it’s cheaper to keep her.

On the STD note, they are playing with their lives and other lives and health for a few minutes of fun. Attractive and healthy looking people carry HIV too–not to make lite of it. And also, even though there is a shot and pill for some of the others, who wants to have any type of STD floating around in their system at any time…yuk.

I saw an interesting film on Mike Tyson, I forget the name. He describes having syphillis or some VD while battling in the ring–imagine that.
He went on to describe the nasty little trollop he believed he contracted it from.

My bad, the movie was “Tyson” out earlier this year and the STD he himself said on film that he had while boxing it out in the ring was gonorrhea, not syphillis. I guess that one is a little less devastating when it runs it course in the body??? N-T-Way.

First off, I am leery of the Post because they are something else when it comes to their reporting. Nonetheless, I agree with you. I know who he is. He’s a well-known wide receiver; pretty good but kind of a headcase when he was with his last team. I love and follow football so I know who he is. In any event, our experiences should serve as a learning tool and people really need to start exercising some discretion. In doing so, maybe they wouldn’t find themselves in some of the predicaments that they do. Not only bringing children into the world but health reasons also.

Not sure of the whole situation but will speak on what is said here……First and foremost congrats on having a baby. Any child is a blessing. But I’m starting to wonder do these females understand that. A child is not a meal ticket!!!!! What were u doing b4 ANTM??? U go back to doing that if modeling isn’t working 4 u!! 70k is a tooooooooo much money!!! Most people would love to make that annually!!! Hell alot of mothers would love 700 a month from their sperm donors ! These females make women look horrible!!! If he’s trying to be a dad, let him!!!! U know how many women would die 4 that??? It’s so many deadbeat dads out here (including mine)!!!! This chick is just out for a paycheck!! Please Grow Up!! And if not for u, please for ur child!!! U r a mother now so watch how u set examples!!

*notice I said females make woman look bad* Everybody is not a woman!! I live by this quote:”We are either born male or female but it takes courage, respect, And strength to become a woman or a man”.

yup drama don’t we love it?? Hope she gets everything she asks for and all those other athletes learn there lesson. Don’t end up like tiger woods, Kobe Bryant and home boy rite here.

excatly n truthfully i don’t think she was being a gold digger. She could just be a women scorn. revenge is a dish best served cold.

I think its time we stop defending the men, oh that’s mad money. oh well if he wanted to keep his money n his pants he should keep his dick in it too.

Plus when u look at these nfl football players lifestyle there buying 70,000 dollar cars a month. there homes are worth millions of dollars there is no reason why she shouldn’t get that money for the baby.

        Flag this

    • Latifah December 21, 2009 at 11:13 am

I also agree. I get sick of people making these women out to be gold diggers. The law sets the amount of child support!!! Not the child’s mother. It the law says that child support should be..I don’t know..5% of the father annual income then we are we to say the mother isn’t entitled to that money. It’s the law.

Do I think she needs $70,000 a month to raise a child no but that $70,000 might only be 7% of his income. Which aint a lot. Hell it takes me 12 months to make that kinda money. It might only take this dude 12 mins.

Beside if you’ll rich and unmarried and you have children you are going to be paying out the pocket for them.

Speaking generally, not just about this situation that I don’t know much of anything about: Who knew being a baby mama could be so lucrative? Green Jobs aren’t taking off as fast as this niche market! Some people may get upset with this comment, but it’s the truth: baby making seems to be a career more than a ‘blessing’ for certain people.

And as for athletes learning a thing or two and keeping their junk to themselves – pigs will learn to fly first. All I’m saying is that they shouldn’t be shocked and appalled when a groupie or two shows up with a belly full of baby.

what is she doing buying him cashmere diapers? Puh-lease, if this was a white woman harrassing a black man y’all would be ripping her to pieces, but a black woman hunting down a black man should ‘go get hers’. Yeah they should have used protection, yeah men are damn stupid simple enough. But did that girl really think they were going to stay together forever? She ain’t got a ‘ring on it’ so why get knocked up? Im so tired of ALL and everyone just producing these kids left right and centre. Close your legs, keep the mouse in the house until you learn some responsibility or make it legal, then stop making these babies. Taking care of your kids is not just throwing thousands at it, or squeezing thousands out of a man. Its pathetic.

  • dmnqdv December 18, 2009 at 7:20 pm

If he didn’t wrap up, maybe she should have kept her legs closed as well for a risk of a disease or a pregnancy. Like I tell my female friends (and I am a female myself, btw), there are way too many ways for a woman to prevent a pregnancy. Birth control pills, shot, patch, diaphragm, female condom, morning after pill, essure….the list goes on and on. Men have condoms and vasectomies. I just don’t get it. People sleep around without any protection when the number of people with HIV and other STD’s are skyrocketing. It’s immature, irresponsible, and nasty.

And yes, it seems that being a “baby mama” pays more than having a degree and a job. *sigh*. What is happening to our self-respect and common sense?

I don’t know. It seems as if people take ‘sexual liberation’ to mean that can lose their flipping minds and have all the sex they want, consequences be damned. We’re supposed to be the most intelligent of species on this planet, but some of us act worse than animals when it comes to sex and reproduction. Not every itch needs to be scratched, you know.

I personally don’t see what the big deal is when these kind of stories are posted. You have two CONSENTING adults with COGNITIVE ABILITIES who made a CHOICE to have sex! Now they both have to deal with the consequences! It is a shame BUT not a surprise. Not surprised that Nik would sue for 70,000 a month. Her baby’s dad is a millionaire football player so that sounds accurate — regardless of what she’s doing with the money. Why wouldn’t she sue for that much??

And that switching states ain’t nothing new. Shaunie just did that the other week on Shaq. Women have been doing that for YEARS to up the $$$$. And Braylon chose NOT TO WRAP THAT PICKLE UP when he was humpin’ on Nik…..so what does he expect?? Did he really expect that she wouldn’t get pregnant at any time?

I just pray that the baby can stay healthy & happy amongst all the soap-opera drama! A mess!

    Holla!

I’m a football fan born and bred NYer. I watch Braylon and the Jets each n every Sunday. Yes he can afford to pay his child support, but 70K a month? She done lost her mind. In this economy some ppl r lucky to have half that in a yr. She’s obviously out for blood. I hope that they work it out for the childs sake bcuz he is not a toy or a doll. He’s a human being and he needs both his parents to be civil and mindful.

Huge Giants fan and I agree with everything that you wrote. He’s a millionaire but he’s not that rich! Football players don’t make as much as baseball and basketball players! MJ’s kids are now worth more than Braylon ever will and they only get $20,000 a month each and that money is for a number of things. The last time I checked Kim Porter got $90,000 for 3 kids and Diddy is worth way more than Braylon. Her child deserves support but $70,000 is way to much and I don’t think a judge will give her that. If Braylon keeps dropping the ball, he might not have a job soon!
Sorry that the Jets lost today. Blame it on the kicker!

Thank you for posting how much those other, far richer fathers are paying for child support. I’m not saying she shouldn’t get anything (after all, he laid with her and got her pregnant. The child is half his responsibility), but $70,000 a month? If, as you say, Diddy pays Kim 90K for his children by her – that’s 30k per month per child. If Kim can make do with that for 3, why does Nik need all of 70k for one? That’s ex-wife level money.

I think $70k is too much & I’m curious to see if she will really get that which in a way, I doubt. They’ll probably meet her half-way. I actually knew a girl who had twins by a certain NBA player & he agreed to pay her $5k a month w/o question. She lived in a small town where even business owners didn’t make that much. She bought a nice house, nice car, her and the kids wore exspensive clothes. She even bought things for her family members. Well, somebody put it in her head that she could actually get more $ for her kids seeing as though other baby mamas with kids by other sports players were getting more than she was. She sued the guy for $15k a month. His lawyer did some background work on her & found out what she was doing with the $ then come to find out the NBA player never questioned the paternity, he just took her word for it. After demanding a DNA test, he found out that the kids were not his but were in fact fathered by some guy she had been messing around with who is in prison. So not only did her suit get dismissed but she gets nothing now but welfare. He was nice enough to not to ask for the $ he already paid her for the 2 years against his lawyer’s advice. She ended up selling the house and all the other things she bought with the child support $. Everybody was talking about how dumb she was b/c if she hadn’t gotten greedy & asked for more he would’ve continued to pay her that amount for the next 18 years now she has to work as a cashier at a grocery store & live off the system. This just goes to show that not all of these guys are bad & not all of these baby mamas are well-intentioned.

I have had my kids dad on child support for the last year & some months. When he was placed on child support, we both were issued papers stating that he was their dad, both of our addresses, & social security numbers of every person involved. So if he is on child support how he does not know all of this about his kid. Then the kid is a jr. I thought only the dad can give a kid his last name if the couple isn’t married.

$70,000 a month is a lot of money. I think this is a way of sticking it to him because the relationship did not work out. This is such a tired way of milking him of his money. I suppose 50 cent said it best, ” Have a baby by me and be a millionaire “. That is a ridiculous sum of money. I could see if they were married and he provided a very fancy lifestyle for her prior to getting pregnant but from what I gather they have been living in seperate states up until recently. I hope there lawyers can find a more reasonable amount maybe $15,000 a month and he pays for his sons education. That should be more than enough.

I totally agree. 1st of all, if they’ve been in a 2 year relationship why did it take her so long to get preggers? IMO, I think she knew he was fixing to break it off & she “set” him up for that last bit of loving. If they’ve been intimate that long obviously he used protection & probably got to the point where he could “trust” her since she hadn’t gotten pregnant so far. Some women are devious enough to lie about being on b.c. or some will even go so far as to poke a hole in the condom. I’ve known women that’ve actually done that. Whatever her reason for getting pregnant be it $$ or a way to “keep” him in her life is just selfish. $70k is way too much for child support. Does anyone actually think she’s only going to spend what’s needed and put the rest up in a trust account? I agree it takes 2 to tango but this epidemic is getting out of hand. There should be a law or stipulation where the mom has to account for the money, I know a lot of ppl will think this is an invasion of privacy but in order for this to stop, that’s what I think needs to be done & then we’ll see how much longer this having babies by rich men trend will last. I wouldn’t have a problem accounting for the $$ if needed b/c I know I’m an honest person. I’m not saying that she isn’t, but if the men are supposed to take care of the kids financially then the women should be made to prove that. I know too many women that come to rely on their child support $$ for personal reasons & these are the kind of women that make it hard for the ones that really need help.

I’m not going to say the whole bit about gold diggers like I usually do because I met Nik at a fashion event and she VERY nice and down to earth… not [word omitted] at all. So with that being said, what is up with all these men, particulary black men who splash off in all these women, make babies, and then run?! It’s an epidemic… and yes, I know men of all races do it but it’s usually some “baller”, rapper, of NFL player in the headlines being sued for child support. It’s disgusting on both ends- men & women (sorry Nik but you know what time it is lol).
