It’s been 3 ½ weeks since reality stars Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett III welcomed their son Hank Randall IV, but the couple can’t stop gushing about their bundle of joy:

“A whole new life just started for us,” Kendra tells  OK!. “I’m still going to be me, though. I’m at a place now where I can have fun but not go overboard. I’m a lot more responsible now. I’m a mom!” For a peek into Kendra’s life with baby, check out OK!’s exclusive Kendra Baby Album!

I hope not. I wish people would stop wasting so much energy on something that has no bearing on their own lives. Even if Hank did marry a Black woman, I doubt it would have been any of us. It’s his choice, his life and whatever we want to say or feel won’t change that.

What about strengthening a weakened black community though?

Honestly, I think the black community has greater internal and external problems plaguing it than just people marrying out of it. I also don’t see how forcing people to marry within their race when they clearly do not wish to do so will strengthen the community. I know I wouldn’t want to be with someone who felt obligated to marry me just to please people. That would breed resentment, which may lead to violence and I think you’d agree that that would defeat the whole purpose of building a strong Black family and a strong Black community.

My answer may not please you, and I’m not speaking as some kumbiya liberal but I’m trying to approach it from a practical perspective. To get all cliché with a proverb: You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t force it to drink. If some Black men and women don’t want to marry each other, making them marry for the community’s sake would cause more problems than it would fix. Lord knows we don’t need any more obstacles to tackle.

In the end, we’re all individuals and we make our own decisions about our lives and who we share it with. I just refuse to get upset when I see a Black man with a non-Black woman, because that is just wasted energy. My anger, if I choose to feel that way, won’t make him realise the ‘error of his ways’, forsake the non-Black woman and marry a Black one instead. My annoyance would not make him return to the community that he has ‘rejected’, so to speak. I’d rather focus my energies on matters that I can influence i.e. my life and what I want out of it. Let other people deal with their life and their decisions.

@Leo, you don’t usually say much but I’m glad you said more on this subject. Positive, powerful and educated perspective. Appreciate it.

Ok…so Blue, you waited for sellout comments that YOU YOURSELF STARTED??!! No one said anything about RACE until you mentioned it. Hmmmm…that doesn’t make much sense to me and kinda suspect that you would even mention it.

Hank IV is long because of his tall father. That tends to happen, yanno??!! LOL!! How cute!! Beautiful family!!!

These are not celebrities… I think we have forgotten who are considered clerities nowadays. I wish we could go back to the old days when real tv shows use to come on an not these reality shows which really aren’t even reality. Just regular ppl trying to becoming famous for nothing.

    Anyways, cute baby.

I agree the whole reality t.v. thing. Some of the shows are decent, but too many play gutterball and elevate the lowest common denominator. But I won’t hate, because if I could make a buck I would, but just haven’t figured out how to show my arse and be comfortable with that on national t.v.

      N-t-way–cute baby.

So true. Everyone who gets a shot on TV today is a celebrity. The title really means nothing anymore. I would love to see more real television shows today. The networks get off cheap showing this kind of crap. I have enought drama in my own life, so when I do sit down to watch television I would like it as a means of escape. The main reason I do not watch soap operas. If the viewing audience would abate then the networks would have to invest money in real shows. I don’t need to see DeDe presenting an award on my Soultrain Awards night when I would much rather that spot is taken by an entertainer.

I am surprised that he is not ashamed to be seen with her. I mean she shared a 80 year old man with other women, parades around nude in front of strangers and who knows what else. She is not the ideal type to bring home to mama.

Love is colourblind so why even discuss the fact that Hank is black and Kendra white?.. It’s beside the point. And if my parents would have sticked to there own race i wouldnt even be here. So just let them be happy people :) Btw lil’ Hank is very cuteeee!
