You may remember her as one of the class members on television show, “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?”, but 12-year-old Alana is more than a smart cookie, she is a philanthropist, too.

“I feel that it’s important to start a mentor program to help other kids achieve their dreams and set positive goals in life. I want to help as many kids as I can, especially, the ones from families who do not have transportation or have the money to participate in after school activities whether it’s sports, music classes, dance classes, acting, being a Boy or Girl Scout, or go to the neighborhood park. My goal is to reach out to my fellow youth to create programs to that will help them keep their focus on education, eating healthy and getting exercise! I believe acquiring self-esteem and self-confidence, comes from having a support system which will help you be successful in life! When a person feels good about themselves, they will believe they can reach beyond the stars and can do anything, yet, it’s so important to be healthy, too. Eating a balanced diet and exercising nourishes your brain which helps your body to function and be the best it can be both mentally and physically”~Alana onĀ  her charity Alana’s Achievers

In addition to her philanthropic work, Alan has done several commercials(she has been featured in 3 Walmart Christmas National TV spots); she has completed shooting two movies: The Silencer & The Sky and A Simple Promise (now on DVD) and two short Films: The Kid Pound and Until The Music Stops.

  1. Hello there! This is kind of off topic but I need
some help from an established blog. Is it tough to set up your own blog?

I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Thank you

  2. Hey, this is Alana and I just wanted to thank everyone for the really nice comments and support as I am very happy to be on this website! After having a lot of opportunities to work with many charities when I was on “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader,” I decided to create my own mentorship program, Alana’s Achievers, an Athletes for Education (AFE) program based in San Diego, so that I could give back to my own community. It’s been such an amazing ride the past 18 mos having a “Reading for Life” program with AFE and a scholarship program. I was awarded a grant by Ashoka’s Youth Venture for seed money for my scholarship program and selected as one of their national US Ambassadors. I am also proud to be a part of Get Ur Good On, Youth Service America, a Kid’s Are Heroes and chosen as a high achiever for Afro Puffs & Ponytails. If we all just spend an hour each week to volunteer in our communities, we can be the change in 2010 to make that diffence! I work hard at school, pursuing my acting career, play soccer, volleyball, dance and continue to work with other charities as well as my own so it can be done if we just make the effort!

    God Bless and Happy 2010!
