QUEEN LATIFAH: “PLEASE GET ME A COUPLE OF HAITIAN KIDS”
Queen Latifah is ready to adopt! In fact, Ms. Latifah says that she is ready to adopt some “Haitian kids”.
“I wanna just go get some of those babies,” she told Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb of “The Today Show. “If you got a hook up, please get me a couple of Haitian kids. It’s time. I’m ready. I got two arms, I can handle at least two. I throw a third in a backpack, and one in the front, we could just wrap it in some swaddlin’ cloth right here. Give me four.”

In 2007, the rapper turned actress spoke of adopting. She said, “I want to have and adopt. I always have, ever since I was 18, I wanted a baby and I wanted to have and adopt because there are a lot of kids. I want to adopt an American baby though, you know what I mean, no offense.Just because there are so many kids here that need our help. My sister is a social worker, and there are just so many kids that could use a good home.”

I always had loads of respect for Latifah, the way she carries herself, how humble she is, and now she proves how big her heart is! This article just about made me cry. She gets major points for this. All Hail the QUEEN!!!!

sometimes circumstances dont permit a person having their own biological child. Her opening her heart to a child that is already on this Earth, but has no one to guide & care for them says a lot.
Her mama will be proud & supportive whether Latifah bring her a biological, or adopted grandchild, because that shows she was raised quite well to welcome a child with no biological ties to herself.

I have adopted internationally twice and Haiti has some of the strictest adoption laws of any country. I know tons of people that would love to open their hearts and homes to these precious children.

That’s because Haiti has a real problem with child slavery. Thousands of Haitian children work as slaves in their own country. Haitian children sold as cheap labourers and prostitutes for little more than 60$… and there is a thriving trade in Haitian children in the Dominican Republic, where they are mostly used for domestic service, agricultural work or prostitution. Half of all Haitians struggle to eat even once a day. It doesn’t take much to push people over the brink. If the rains fail or someone falls ill, they have to sell what little they have. The trafficking of Haitian children represents the bottom rung of a migratory ladder through the Americas that sees Dominicans striving to get to Puerto Rico, and Puerto Ricans moving to the US. The market for cheap labour keeps people moving, since so many other countries have closed their doors to Haitians the only chance they have is to go to the country that is slightly less poor than Haiti and the easiest to get to. The economy could not function without them. But it takes a terrible toll on the individuals…

EASP..thank you for pointing out the desperate facts about the way of life of the children of Haiti. Though the earthquake wreaked a tragic disaster of epic proportion for the Hatians, the fact that now many babies and children will be adopted out of that country is the silver lining of this horror.
I hope and pray the babies get a better shot at life and grow up to go back and help rebuild their homeland.

keepin’ it real, tell your peoples that now is the time! If I could afford it, I would do it in a heartbeat!

Keepin’ It Real –that is great that you opened your home and heart like that. I am not knowledgeable about why it does seem to be difficult to adopt from Haiti.
I admire Queen Latifah as an entertainer and what I see as a radiant, lively and confident personality. If she is serious, I do hope she will not be hindered from adopting one of the orphans of this horrible tragedy.

I have so much respect for this woman. From when she started rapping I always knew that she was different and felt she would go far. I am happy to know that she is interested in adopting, especially children from Haiti. That’s what we need. Any child will be fortunate to be reared by her. All the best.

To EASP: That’s heartbreaking to hear about that situation in any country but especially one that’s sitting right outside our door. I wish I could afford to adopt a child from haiti. Hope Latifah is serious about her desire and that if so, she’s able to adopt some of those poor kids in haiti who have no family.

I hear ya Dee. I wish I could afford it myself! Especially when waiting time & all red tape for Haitian adoptions is virtually non-existent.

Well I wish her good luck with adopting a child.

If she wants to adopt one or two she should. Haiti had many orphans even before the earthquake. I hope she does adopt, so many children need a home in this world. Go head and get one Queen.

Queen you would be a wonderful mother and I 100% support you! It will be a blessing to you, your family, and the Haitian-African American community. I appreciate the fact that, unlike many celebrities who adopt, you also consider adopting here in the U.S. There are so many children in our own backyard that need nourishment and a good/stable home! Whatever you choose God bless
