SADE: “BEING A MOTHER IS THE HARDEST JOB I’VE EVER UNDERTAKEN”

sade

It has been 10 years since her last album release, but now British singer Sade is back with a vengeance. For the past few years, Sade has been living in a cottage in Stroud, UK, with her daughter Ila, who is now thirteen years old.

“… Ila appreciates the countryside. “She’s fascinated with frogs and newts and worms and slimy things, just like I was.”

Sade and Ila’s father, a Jamaican musician, parted ways years ago. Since then, the songstress has found love with a man named Ian. Together Sade and Ian have created a modern “nuclear” family, which consists of Ian’s 18-year-old son Jack.

“Ian is Ila’s dad, really. He does all the things a dad would do, and she really looks up to him. I feel like I’ve won the lottery, finally.”

Despite Ian’s support, Sade still feels the pressures of motherhood.

“Being a mother is the biggest and hardest job I’ve ever undertaken. I’m not complaining, but I’ve never had a nanny. For years after she was born I put Ila to bed every night. As soon as she arrived she became the centre of my life.”

Ila sings on one of the tracks on Soldier of Love, Sade’s latest album which is due out on February 9th,2010.

Can you believe Sade just turned 51 on 1/16? She has not aged a bit!!!! This is a true testament that Black is truly beautiful and will always be. I would love to see her daughter too!

    • jammin March 28, 2010 at 10:05 pm

She is not really black. Her dad was black and mom was white. Her real name is helen folasade adu.She got the name sade because she was the victim of racism, a bi-racial helen was dubbed sade by nigerian neighbors who refused to call her by her first name. when sade was just four, her parents separated and both sade and banji accompanied their mother back to her native england.

      • Goth Gurl May 21, 2010 at 11:13 am

Uh sweetie actually she is black. When you give birth to a bi-racial child and the father is black then the child is considered black as well. So yeah Sade is black.

        • oookay May 24, 2013 at 7:00 am

          uh…sade is BIRACIAL!!!!

    • dyann May 21, 2010 at 5:24 pm

sade’s daughter ila is in her new video
      the song is called

      babyfather

you will see her daughter in the video

their are 2 girls in strip shirts standing behing a small fence

her daugther is the shorter girl who is lighter.

she doesn’t look exact like her mom

she isn’t as pretty as her mom its the truth
      am not being rude.

      she looks straight.

      • SarahB May 21, 2010 at 5:30 pm

That can’t be Sade’s daughter. Sade’s daughter is like ten. That girl in the video is like six.

        • Goth Gurl June 17, 2010 at 12:27 am

Neither of those girls r her daughter. If you watch the video then at about 1:30 there will be a girl dancing with the other two girls. She has on a black shirt and white pants….that’s Ila but you will also notice that her mom put sunglasses and a hat on her so you can’t see her face at all but that is her daughter. One day Sade may let us all see Ila. I just hope it won’t take another 10 years I was in pain waiting for Sade to come out with a new cd lol.

  • universitychick February 4, 2010 at 2:33 pm

    • KHRISH February 4, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Good question. We want pictures, we want pictures of the child.

  • Teri February 4, 2010 at 2:04 pm

Wow, I’ve been a fan for years, and didn’t know she even had a child. I, too, am so happy she’s back on the scene.

  • the truth February 4, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Wow! I love that picture of Sade. Like an African queen, just beautiful.

    • FashionedByGod33 February 4, 2010 at 5:52 pm

I agree. I love this picture also. I’ve always thought that she was a beauty.

  • FashionedByGod34 February 4, 2010 at 1:18 pm

    Sade rocks!!!

  • gtsa February 4, 2010 at 1:02 pm

Sade, your fans have missed you and your unique style. I will have to check out your new album.

I’d like to see how Ila looks. Bet she is pretty if she looks anything like mom.

    • KHRISH February 4, 2010 at 2:17 pm

I have been waiting 10 years for this new album. Heard Wanda Sykes say that it was coming out and I am overjoyed. I would love to see pictures of her daughter as well. I love this woman’s voice and her songs. Welcome back Sade.

      • gtsa February 4, 2010 at 4:10 pm

Hey Khrish, Mr. Timberlake may have been just a little premature when he was talkin’ bringing sexy back-lol, now that one of the purveyors of the real grown and sexy stuff is making a comeback to the music scene.

        • KHRISH February 4, 2010 at 4:45 pm

you know the CD drops on February 9th, don’t you? I have already pre-ordered mine just incase there is snow and I can’t get out to the music store. LOL I can hardly wait to hear the new songs from that sultry voice. I fall apart everytime I hear her sing THERE IS A WOMAN IN SOMOLIA. That song really gets to me. A glass of red wine, the roaring fireplace and Sade……and it’s on!

          • gtsa February 4, 2010 at 5:35 pm

She is suppose to be on a few shows in the coming weeks promoting the release. Going to download the MP3 either from Amazon or Itunes.

          • KHRISH February 4, 2010 at 6:01 pm

I’ll get the CD and then lay out my own CD from the ones I like best on all Sade CDs. I always have to do that because I always want to hear the songs I like best with no interruption of one that I don’t like as well.

          • KHRISH February 4, 2010 at 6:03 pm

If you get the schedule of shows and times, please post and I will do likewise. Thx.

          • gtsa February 4, 2010 at 8:33 pm

Khrish, this is taken from her official website http://www.sade.com. BCK I hope its ok to plug our girl.

            2/09 – Today Show

            2/09 – 106 & Park on BET

2/09 – The Late Show with David Letterman

            2/10 – The View

2/15 – The Ellen DeGeneres Show

            2/16 – Jimmy Kimmel Live

2/20 – The Wanda Sykes Show

I just started downloading more MP3s over buying CDs. I still get CDs too from time to time, the sound quality is better and I have what may be an old school CD player, but the sound system and speakers is off the chain.

I reserve most of my downloads for now to my cell and laptop.

          • KHRISH February 4, 2010 at 9:38 pm

@GTSA Thanks for the info. I’ll put it on my calendar.
