LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER
Singer Melanie Brown (Mel B) and her daughter Angel Iris Brown revealed matching shaved haircuts on a LA shopping trip yesterday.
Two-year-old Angel was the first to wear the shaved look, but it looks like her mom has clearly followed in her footsteps.

I hope this is not an effort to justify what she did to Angel’s head…

I agree there’s only one thing that comes to mind when I look at these pics “Hot mommie mess and hot baby mess.” One day Angel will look back @ these photos and say to Mel “WTF WERE YOU THINKING!” Its not cool to be trendy with a two year old…Mel is just trying to copy Angie & Brad when they let Mad rock the same cut years ago!

I’m all for being progressive, and I loooove Mel B…but when being progressive makes a child looks less attractive-for lack of a better word-I have an issue with that. Other than that Angel seems to be a happy child

Even with shaved sides, Mel B’s hair is long enough to allow for more versatility than little Angel, at least she is allowing the little the sides to grow in to soften the look. Its going to be something for the both of them when Mel B grows tired of the look and starts the catch up phase.

She may have made a statement if she had done her hair just like she did that sweet little girl’s hair.

Lol. I finally figured out what Angel’s hair reminds me of. Do you remember the little Troll dolls? Lol. I think Diddy’s gf Cassie was the first to rock the hairstyle Mel B has, and then it kind of went out of style? Don’t know why it was ever “in style” in the first place.

Now that you mention it…
Another thing – ever notice that the ones wearing mohawks are NOT Mohawks themselves? I can imagine the real Mohawk people giving the side-eye and head shake to all this ‘fashionable’ crud.

LOL! A baby cockatoo, too. But Angel is getting cuter and cuter and her hair looks better already growing back on the sides.

Still not feeling the do on either but whatever floats your boat.

It looks better on Angel although I don’t prefer that haircut on a child as young as she is. I just don’t get the shaved head thing anyway. Who started that? They look like Indians.

Is it me or has anyone else noticed this is one of the few pictures where you actually see Mel B holding Angel? Because normally her husband is the one who always has her in the photos.

@PlainMean…I said the same thing about her looking like a troll doll but I didn’t bother to post it because I figured BCK would censor my comment and wouldn’t post it. But, she really does.

Not really into the shaved head fad, but does Mel B. like doing things strictly for attention or is she just being herself? Hmmm……..the jury is still out on that one. I still like pigtails, barrettes, and braids for little girls. That’s just me though.

Great! Now she can cut the rest and gel it up like Angel’s and she’s good to go!

Well at least now they match!

I wish people would get over the haircut. So she cut her own daughters hair in way that you would not,who cares? She can look at how one of you may have disciplined or fed your kids and criticize you also.It is your right as a parent to make decisions for your own child and as long as she is not abusing Angel in any way,I see no problem.
And to whoever said Mel did this to justify the haircut to people who hate it,you must not have seen a lot of Mel interviews. She has always done whatever she wanted without ever caring what anyone thinks.

I so agree with the both of you (Kayana and Monique) it is just hair and it is her CHILD… So over this whole “HAIR THING” There are bigger problems to worry about in the world!!!

I like Mel B from what I see on TV and read, Since I don’t know her, But I am not feeling the hair on Angel or her. But it’s her life. She make me wanna start my diet tomorrow with her killer body. lol

I knew this was going to happen! I was once a Big Sister to a girl who suffered from severe hair loss on the sides of her head from a perm. As a result she wore her head covered (even to bed) and was very sad until the sides grew back. I wonder if the same happened to Mel’s kid.

I would rather see her with hair on the top of her head and the sides shaved, Than pony tails that are so tight that the childs skin is pulling and bald on the sides and in the back from rubberbands to tight. This is nothing compared to that. Where is Eddie?
Flag this
I think Mel is making a statement to Eddie Murphy for not being in Angel’s life. Just my take. I feel sorry for Angel, the money will not by happines and the absence of her father.
Flag this
I just don’t understand why a mother would do that to her daughter. It makes no sense. It’s bad enough that Eddie refuses to have anything to do with the child. She’s going to have an incredible inferiority complex.

Hurt people hurt people, he doesnt care, it’s about his feelings not the the childs,

Angel is an adorable little girl who just so happens to have her hair shaved in the form of a mohawk, deal with it! Black folk and their myriad of issues surrounding hair and complexion….gosh, look what slavery and colonialism has done!

I don’t agree that only black people make a big deal out of hair. Hair is a part of every human’s crowning glory.
I must say that I have never seen a child ( any little girl, specifically) of any other race the age of Angel, a toddler, with their hair in such a state.
I live in San Francisco, one of the most liberal of cities in the United States, and even on Haight Street I’ve never seen a White toddler with their hair in this condition. It’s not like it’s some new super trend that everyone is doing to their children.
Barrettes, knockers, pigtails, braids, etc. were not invented by or for little Black girls. Hair decorations for girls are and always have been universally worn by female (and in some cultures even males), so I don’t feel it is neither fair nor an accurate stereotype of how little Black girls have traditionally worn their hair in the United States.

Those that may be interested may consider Googling “the history of hair ornaments and history of hairstyles” before they begin stereotyping little Black girls whose parents choose to adorn their child’s head with barrettes, knockers, hair pins, etc.
These items are not and never have been exclusive to being worn by little Black girls. Just another stereotype being perpetuated which we primarily use against ourselves which continues the cycle of self loathing in some people.

Corinthians 11:15, “if a woman has long hair, it is a glory unto her. For long hair is given to her as a covering.”
I’m no Bible thumper, but the issue of women and their hair has been around a long, long time.

Googling “references to hair in the Bible”, 14,400,000 results appear. Seems like more than Black women find the topic of hair fascinating or obsessive. Started in Biblical times, apparently.

One word – ‘no.’
Angel Iris is cute, too precious for words.
But Mel doing her hair like that still doesn’t do justice to doing Angel’s hair like that.
And it doesn’t look cuter or softer in any way, it still looks a hot mess.
At least we got one thing straight – nobody is longer saying she did it to spike Angel’s father Eddie Murphy. I almost kinda agreed with that and saw what folks were saying, but I thought it more of a case of her experimenting with angel’s hair because it was nappy and she didn’t know how to do it, not to spite Eddie.
At this point, I’d give Angel a twa – teeny weeny afro, and let it grow out evenly. I’d keep it moisturized and she’d be wearing a fro for a couple of months until it grew in long enough for short plaits or twists. I would NOT put any type of weave or braided extensions in it – those could dry and break hair. No more relaxers. This style is played out (not that it was ever ‘played in’) and time for something else now. She would look much better with a little fro.

Lol..a “twa”. So original, nappykat. She could also wear a baby wig which was featured in the past on BCK. That was a scream!

And I wish people would STOP making this stupid-a** comments that ‘its just hair.’ ITS NOT. Saying that it’s just hair is like saying race doesn’t exist or doesn’t matter. It does, and just like race, hair has social and political importance, especially black hair. Blacks are the ONLY group of people that can be deemed as ‘militant’ and ‘aggressive’ or whatever else because of hair. Ours has the most versatility of anyone else’s, and our hair has the ability to come with negative and positive images and stereotypes.
And speaking of Indians – someone made a comment about them and I must say, it seemed almost offensive to the Indians (Native Americans) that someone would use that as a negative for our hair. Their hair, even with less versatility, also had social and political implications for themselves. The Mohawks were warriors, said to be ‘savage’ and ‘aggressive’ – probably because of their hair. It instilled fear into the white folks – which was probably the point of the hair style anyway.
Plus, this is a celebrity site – and people will judge celebs accordingly, including the kids. It’s not celebrity worship, it’s more like celebrity infatuation. I don’t have a problem with that because I got a little celebrity infatuation too – with certain celebs (Brangelina and LL Cool J to name 2) and with black hair in general).

Right again, nappycat. The way hair appears (texture, color, etc) amongst people was a part of the evolutionary process. Curly or kinky hair served the purpose of protecting the scalp and brain of our early ancestors from the harmful UV rays of the hot sun in Africa, after we evolved from having hair all over our bodies like lesser primates.
In colder climates human hair grew straighter and longer for covering of the neck and ears and the slickness of it served as a reflector. Ergo White people’s straight or “good” hair.
But we all started out from Africa before the first migration out, and we all had kinky hair in the beginning for protection of our skin that became sensitive and would burn in the sun after we lost entire body hair such as chimpanzees continue to have. Without kinky, curly hair, our ancestors brains would have fried.
Everything has a purpose.

At the end of the day…It’s just hair.

darcie…lol, i agree with you 100%. mel only shaved a percentage of her hair, why not both sides like angels? i knew she was a mess when she had relations with eddie and no protection, hmmmmmm. why are peeps on the subject of hair texture? we are talking about a child who is to young to even make a decision on her hairstyle. so foolzo mamo made a decision for her, lawdy, po baby girl.

You should try non black celeb sites, and the responses about this baby’s hair will be no different.

Right again, Toni A. I have seen other comments at other sites about Angels hair cut and jokes are made about it. One suggested that she and Maddox, Angelina and Brad’s son should hang out together with their “WILD” haircuts that are alike. Emphasis on the word “WILD”.

tanisha, mel holds angel alot of the time. since angel can walk why should she be holding a big girl like her? still, i do not see eddy in the child’s features. also the mohauk does not become mel-b. it takes away from her appearance.

Loving this picture, Mel B looks fabulous with that hairstyle, it suits her REALLY well!!! Too cute, like daughter, like mom!! Angel the angel is beautiful no matter what way she wears that hair. Kudos to both for daring to be different!!

The reason why she cut Angels hair in the first place is because she couldn’t handle the texture of it she didn’t take her mummys hair!!!

LOL! Mel is touched! I’m sorry, she might not think so but three year olds do what mommy and older sibs do. They don’t follow trends. That childs hair is similar in texture to Eddies! It is NOT going to grow back anytime soon. WOOOOO!LMAO
