Supermodel mom Heidi Klum took her kids Leni(not pictured), Henry, and Johan to their weekly Taekwondo class yesterday. Johan was all smiles as he walked to his class with the help of his nanny.

OK…A for effort. Now cut Henry’s hair down about another 31/3 four inches. Leave Johan’s as is…that style is CLEARLY not for the both of them. Besides individuality is key (whatever needs to be said)

Well, everybody seems to prefer this haircut for Henry. I never understood the problem with it before, I think it was adorable! Actually, I think it’s less cute now. To each his own, I guess…

What they sayin is – Henry’s hair was too nappy to have that bouncy curl look that Johan hair does. In the language of the black hair-texture vernacular – Johan got that ‘gud hurr’ or that ‘mixed hurr’ so he can rock that flouncy curly fro style. Henry look liked an Angela-Davis-little-boy-radical-with-uncombed-fro and nobody was diggin’nat… except me ofcourse.

      Cute boys tho.

NappyKat, you got this one wrong! Henry’s hair just looked ungroomed and unkempt. It had nothing to do with texture. It looked matted and dry. Johan’s hair never looked like that even with similar lengths. Maybe Henry doesn’t have the texture to shake and go but it doesn’t mean that his kinkier is not as good. It just means that the one style didn’t fit them both. My hair is natural and just as nappy as Henry’s but I have to choose styles that befits my texture. It aint always a good hair/bad hair thing.

Keepin” It Real, you took the words out of my mouth. I also think Henri’s hair looks better like this than with the puffier afro. Sometimes we get too hyper conscious is my opinion. Everything doesn’t have to be analyzed to that extent.

For me, it isn’t even necessarily about texture, but what fits the boy’s face. I don’t think Henri would look any cuter with Johan’s bouncier locks. He looks cuter with the hair texture God gave him. Henri looks more boyish than Johan. Please don’t read more in to that. He just does to me.

That said, I wouldn’t mind seeing both of the lads with close cropped hair cuts, but that is just me. They are cute either way.

Wanted to clarify, that while I agree with the fact that Henri looks better with shorter hair mostly due to his face and strong boyish good looks and that certain textures are brought out best with different styles and that it is not necessarily a VALUE or black vs white or other statement, I DON’T however agree that Henri’s hair looked ungroomed, unkepmpt or matted before. His hair looked combed, but I will give it a bit dry in some pics partially due to the sandy brown color with blonded highlights on the ends (which appears darker after being cut) and the fact that the more tightly wound the curl is, the less sheen it tends to give off because it tends to reflect less light. I bet his hair looked even better than what translated in his pics up close and in person before the crop.

For his hair to look like Angela Davis’ they would have to shape it moisturize it and pick it. We were all back there together and we had our afros tight and looking good. It seems to me that the star parents of these Bi-cultural children are trying to show us how we should wear our hair, as usual, some are following suit. We have had his texture hair all our life and we are the ones that know what needs to be done to it to keep it looking good. I certainly don’t need them showing me how hair my texture should look. the way they have that boy’s hair looked unkempt back in the day and it looks unkempt now. I find it hard to believe that Black parents are buying into this nonsense of aping hair styles that these people are using on their children. Nothing looks better than neat and well groomed hair whether natural or otherwise. If so they would let their children who have hair like them get up bathe and come out on the streets without drying or untangling it. I may be old fashioned but that boy needs someone to take care of his hair, they both do.

Agreed!! I liked Henry’s hair better before. I think they should either let his hair grow loooong and wild, or just cut it off. I’m not digging this in-between cut, LOL.

That’s definitely not to say he and Johan aren’t the beautiful kids that they are- long or short hair :-) .

It’s not the naturalness is the umkempt look that I have a problem with.

explain whats so unkept about it??? like seriously tell me what they should do differently just because you like it different doesn’t mean that everyone has to abide by that! and your standards are not the standards for everyone else. his hair looks like its combed and fluffed and its completely fine. the only thing that matters is that its healthy, not if it looks kept according to you.

I haven’t read anyone say that they have “bad hair”, I said their hair looks unkempt. There’s a big difference, for me anyway.

NAPPY = ungroomed, unkempt, matted, dry (definitely refers to textures).

“Johan’s hair never looked like that even with similar lengths. Maybe Henry doesn’t have the texture…”

    *has Virgie tantrum*

Come on! The preference is clear here.

    • KHRISH March 8, 2010 at 9:59 pm

@Virgie I disagree concerning my statement. Unkempt can refer to any texture of hair. Maybe these are your feelings but I know very well what I mean. You and I both know, if Denzel and his wife, who are both Black, had presented their sons to the public with their hair just loose on their heads with no shape or style, Black people would have talked about them “they should be ashamed of themselves bring those children out with their hair like that”. You know that I am telling the truth…..But because it’s these people many want to pretend “Oh that’s such a cute hairdo”and it has not one thing to do with the texture of the hair. Everybody’s hair can be neat and well groomed. If not, I would have been in trouble all my days. So stop trying to make it about “good hair”, “bad hair” because that’s not conversation and you know it isn’t.
