AUDRA MCDONALD AND HER LITTLE PRINCESS

Private Practice star Audra McDonald and her daughter Zoe,9, attended Princess Tiana’s official induction into the Disney Princess Royal Court on March 14, 2010.

In an Aug/Sept 2009 issue of Heart & Soul magazine, Audra talked about how she is no different than any other non-celebrity mom.

“I’m a single mother who has to make a living to support me and my child. I am someone who to this day cannot keep her house organized. I do not have a nanny. I have a babysitter I share with my ex-husband. I have a dog I have to get a urine sample from, and I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to do that. Do I put a plate under him? More often that not, people in the public eye are more real than people who see people in the public eye believe them to be. I’m a working mom still trying to keep it all together, who still needs to lose those last 10 pounds I’ve been fighting with my entire life. I’m no different (Source).”

  • Team Michael Jackson.... March 15, 2010 at 12:18 pm

Again, why is it not possible to some people that Michael Jackson is the biological father of his children?
This little beauty right here (Zoe) is obviously bi-racial and has even straighter hair than Ms Paris Jackson, but some proclaim that Michael can NOT be the father of his “white” kids! Yeah right…whatever!
    Just sayin”…..
Ps…Don’t nobody even bother to write and criticize my thoughts and opinions. And there is also no need to point out that this thread is NOT about Michael Jackson as I am very well aware of that.
Just looking at this gorgeous biracial child and her beautiful black mother made me think of handsome black Michael and his gorgeous biracial BIOLOGICAL children :-)

      @Team Mike…I’m going to bother.

First let me say that I think it’s very possible that MJ can be the biological father of all 3 of his kids. As many have said, you just never know with genetics. But either way it really doesn’t matter to me because he is their father in every way that matters. But I ask you, why even concern yourself with what other people think? It use to bother me at first as well for the simple reason that the kids may see it one day. I mean really, who wants to read on the internet stranger’s opinions regarding if their father is really their biological father. People who never knew their father and certainly don’t know his business at that. But we can’t stop people from voicing their opinions, even if his kids may see, and no matter how much logic you try to bring to the situation, some people will never believe it. I agree with you but I’m just saying, it’s not even worth your time. Let them believe what they choose to believe.

Do you know why people r saying those aren’t his kids because they don’t look a once of black in them. And MJS firends said that he asked for their sperm. But anyway those are his kids. And their going to know one person as their father and that’s Michael Jackson. So why doent everybody leave those kids alone and let them geirf.

This post should really be about Beautiful Audra McDonald & her adorable daughter. Bust since we are taking a commercial break, I will respond.
I have a friend who I’ll call Liz. When I met Liz, I assumed she was white. The girl had blond hair (natural), green eyes & a narrow nose but full lips. One day we were talking and she said “we black women…” Inside I was like what? Turns out Liz’s father is a brown skinned caribbean black man. She looks like more like his aunt than her parents. There is a darkskinned black man in my church who’s daughters are the same color as his white wife. THOSE ARE HIS CHILDREN. Genetics is just that funny. Bi-racial children can come out as dark as the dark parent or as light as the lighter parent. Skin color is controlled by multiple alleles. That’s why a friend of mine with 2 black parents is lighter than both of them. Look up Fredi Washington

Sorry that I don’t believe Mike’s so called “friends” claims.
Now let’s go back to our regularly scheduled programming:
Audra McDonald is beautiful. I didn’t know she had a daughter. I love her smile and as Victoria Rowell said “they’ll be no imitation of life” in that house. Zoe has a beautiful smile.

Real Black Celebrity Kids? If that isn’t the most ignorant statement i have ever heard. Are you sure you would want to start a site like that? Afterall, what is black because apparently, when you are a light shade of black, you aren’t even black. So what constitutes being black? Do you have to be dark as charcoal? Ok, i didn’t think so. This site hopes to showcase kids of African descent(read the about section). Therefore, Biracial kids are welcomed. And am truly sorry that haters don’t see that this site alone has shown us a plethora of black children of all shades! Look at the archives. Just tired of people always looking for something to complain about. Just enjoy the kids!

I think it is rather interesting that in showing us children of celebrity kids, BCK is in fact highlighting the issues found in the African-American community and i for one am grateful. Thanks, BCK!

For instance, it amazes me the number of black ppl who say that Prez Obama isn’t “really black” or “he’s black, but not REALLY black!” Lol like what is REALLY black? Lol, but again, I know you were joking and Lisa responded more seriously and more in depth than you intended for the post to be. You both have your points!

@Victoria… Thank You! That has always been my definition of Black – being of African Heritage! Not necessarily being African American, but simply being of African heritage. This is why it kills me when ppl say that Haitians, or Jamaicans, or many South Americans, and etc aren’t black! They aren’t African American, but they are of African descent, and thus are indeed black. As well as many in the Middle East. Jim Crow segregated us, and now we segregate ourselves, it’s ridiculous. Across the world, black ppl get the short end of the stick, and it’s because there is no unity. If we spent less time trying to point out what’s different amongst us, we could get some things accomplished.

            @PlainMean,

now you know I can’t understand the logic behind Caribbeans and Black people around the world being referred to as non-Black. Okay then, with that reasoning, I guess all White Europeans are actually NOT White. That makes a lot of sense, LOL! I don’t really go for the whole idea that mixed is a TOTALLY separate and different group from Black. Uh, why? Except for a few periods in time in isolated parts of the country and world, it’s very rarely been that way. And as for unity, well, people of African heritage in other parts of the world, who have foregone the idea of forming an ethnic/political alliance amongst themselves, in favor of petty complexion/percentage based divisions, have discovered it hasn’t worked out too well for them.

He wants to identify with his Mother’s side to. and people I know on a personal level. Who do not identify as black or African American only. they check other. @ Shonda Black people never had a problem with their skin color. I think other people did and that bought it to the forefront. Lol… 2 people can look at the same person or picture and see 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things! That’s fact! So for you to say “Prince looks a lot like Michael, REALLY, HE DOES” – that’s your opinion. Someone disagreeing with you shouldn’t constitute ignorance, because your opinion isn’t law and the only ignorance is you thinking that it is! The only ppl who know the kids’ paternity is Debbie and Michael, who is deceased! Therefore, you are simply guessing and expressing your opinion and so is everyone else, and there is nothing that makes your opinion better than anyone who disagrees with you! Oh, but I forgot, “you’re an insider, closer than anyone can imagine”!!!! Shush.

@ plainmean. Oh, how I love this comment. If only people would stop and think before they hit send on the computers. I agree 100%. Some people post as if they were in the bed with these people.
I just had a discussion about something similar at work, and had people making judgements and assumptions as if they had all the facts and knowledge. Some things are better left to speculation unless you were in bed with these people. So unless you can post some straight up facts that can be proven, please stop saying you know these are MJ kids. Unless the poster is DR. If this is the case prove it. I don’t care either way, my mom always said if you feed them long enough, they’ll start looking like you. Which is not true either, because I have step-kids and have been raising them since they were babies, & they still don’t look like me. But, here is an example—My oldest step-son was picking me up from work one day, & someone commented on how he looks just like me, & I never said a word to correct them. They said ” I knew that was your son, he looks just like you.” He has no blood relation to me whatsoever. So people see what they want to see. Just dropping by to add my (2) cents. Please let’s all try to be adults or mature enough people without all the name calling, we as AA get that enough from other people. IMO

I hated the way that Sarah Jane was depicted in treating her mother, and I hated the racist slant that was put on the film, i.e. being brutally beaten by her white boyfriend when he discovered her blackness. It was a piece of trash and totally ignored those of us in the Black community who had GOOD lives being exactly who and what we were.

IF you are interested in seeing to know what people are talking about then you should. There’s nothing like having you on personal opinion because you saw it for yourself. I just find it so sad that after the sell that the media places on our children that they should offer up, yet another, piece of crap like this. But you should see it for yourself and make your own decision. While they have placed both versions of it on a double DVD. The older version that is really old was PINKY, which my mother watched with I was very samll and hated. I don’t own it and I have never offered it up to my children as a film with any value nor as something worth seeing. I don’t think that they ever have seen it and they are adults now. I find it an insult to Black Americans.

LisaLisa, I think as long as Audra teaches her daughter about who she is and where she comes from, there’ll be no danger of “passing” in that household. I’ve noticed that in many homes where a Black woman is the mother of a Biracial person, there’s a much more reduced chance of an ‘identity crisis’ happening. I know because I can speak from experience–I have a Black mother. Of course, though, even when a light-skinned Black person is totally confident in who they are, they can sometimes encounter totally nasty people who will attempt to make them feel horrible for NOT disowning their Black family. I know that also, because I was recently on the receiving end of some very vicious racially-based harassment from a bigot, because I am proud of my Black heritage. Racial identity matters can be a tricky subject. Kids like Zoe and other fair skinned Black kids definitely need a lot of encouragement and knowledge to wade through it.

Echoing Sunshine’s sentiment, I just saw a posting on a video website (not sure if I can mention the name, so I’ll refrain) of a show back in the day called, “Our Voice” that used to air on BET (back in the good ole days). Well it was about color discrimination among black people (yeah, I know we are beating a dead horse here), but there was a woman who most people would assume was biracial. She stated that people would always ask her what race she was. She would tell them black, and their response was, “and what else?” She would say, “black and black.” She had two black parents. People would insist she HAD to be biracial or mixed. They would not just let her be a black woman. SMH.

Black people, of all people, should know better. We come looking all kinds of ways, and there is really no such thing as “clearly looking black” because some people whom other assume are “clearly” black might not be and vice verse. I hope we get to a place where it won’t matter, but I’m not holding my breath.

I remember seeing her perform with Brian Stokes Mitchell back in 1996 when the wonderful show “Ragtime” was on Broadway. In fact, I got tickets to the show, because of her performances, but unfortunately, it was too late to see them, and someone else [forgot their names] played their characters. I have her album “How Glory Goes” [amazing!]. Her daughter is lucky to have such an immensely talented mom! :-)

Why did this have to turn to MK and his kids. Who cares who fathered his kids? It is sad that black people have to focus so much on skin color! This child is a beautiful child and I believe she would be whether she is light or dark. Remember God sees no color. It is so sad that some people are raised to believe that they have to marry light if they are dark or vica versa. Forget about society and think about love!! It is not about what a person look like. Just imagine if God felt the way alot of us feel. Some of us would definately be lefted out. We are all beautiful, stop feeling less than because of your color, whether you are light or dark.

Shonda know what you mean by this but God does she color, he made us in the varying colors that we are. He doesn’t call us to be exclusive in our vision however. There is no such thing as colorblind there is a such thing as color acceptance or appreciation if you will:)

BCK is on point regardless of the kids skin color (this little girl is gorgeous btw). However while I wouldn’t have put it the way those that mentioned mixed kids put it, I understand what they are saying. You scan over the front of this page as I type, may be changed by the time I finish….. and majority of the page consists of biracial kids or white parent black kid. Nothing wrong with that but for a site called BCK that’s not 100% accurate and maybe BCK needs a name change to represent what’s reflected here as a whole.

And let’s be real the years of one drop rule is dead and gone, if Halle Berry wants to describe herself as a black woman I wouldn’t take issue with her for doing so, but in reality she is a mixed woman she has a beautiful white mother who is just as much a part of her identity as her black father. But I understand why Halle and why her mom supported her in calling herself black and why Halle also supports her daughter calling herself whatever she choose to. It’s other people hang ups on the issue that is the problem on both sides, look at how everyone reacted to Tiger way back when oh he ain’t black now….ummmm no he isn’t and he has every right to speak on his make up.

Lastly I don’t think blacks that are for black so to speak is looking for a pure black race as a white supremisist (SP) would as far as people saying we all have something in us somewhere goes. But it’s silly for everyone to claim black on the basis of one parent that non-black parent changed some things and call it/me what you want but it’s always been a peeve of mines to see that get discredited.

I have to disagree with one thing:there is nothing wrong with the name of this site. In fact, i think it is appropriate. Would you like them to change it to Bi-racialkids.com? Would that represent? Or maybe kids of color.com? is that more appropriate? I think it does not matter what the name of the site is. I understood the name “blackcelebkids.com” as a site representing children of African descent. This was further clarified after i read the about section and i visited the site countless number of times. It’s too bad people read so much into names to the point that people want to see charcoal dark kids on the site. SMH!

I don’t think that any of these parents push their children to deny their parentage. I think they offer their children the road that holds least difficulties. Black people on this site always blame other Blacks for this color thing with these children. We are not the ones to give them woe. It’s those people from the side of that non-Black heritage that create the problems. Let’s lay blame where blame should be. Tiger Wood, to me, was a completely different situation. After reading about his father, who used the same description for himself, I can see that his father was more interested or pushed him harder not to be Black. I can and have accepted the title he gives to himself. It doesn’t hurt me at all. On the other hand, it seems to bother a lot of people on this site when Halle,Paula and others choose to see themselves as Black. To each his own.

Gosh, one person derails the conversation with an unresolved slave mentality by focusing on skin color, admixture, and hair texture, and then before we know it the whole focus on the post designed to celebrate the beauty of the black family becomes lost. One writer is complaining about the amount of biracial children shown on the site, yet, when children with darker complexions or coarser hair are shown, they receive so few comments if any at all. How can one complain that BCK isn’t showing love to REAL celebrity black kids…(what ever that is being that many black Americans have a certain degree of admixture) if we can’t celebrate and love one another regardless of an African phenotype, obvious mixture, or hair texture?

P.S. Mother and child are beautiful.

What color do they have to be jet black. So if ur so offend why don’t you make a website and only have darkskin celebirty kids.

Zoe does not look Hispanic she looks like a mixed race child. And that movie is old so what. You have Asians and Hispanics dark ones who want to be white. The Hispanics are the only group on earth who teaches their own children that it is better to be white. The doctrines is called Mejorar La Raza, it means to marry white to improve the race.

Glad to see they are showing all of our offspring since we come in various colors. My nieces look like Zoe and she’s a great kid. There is such much variety in the Black community, not just one look can encapsulate out identity.

Thanks for the correction. Irene Cara insisted that she is P.R. only. But that’s my point exactly. They range in color and hair texture just like Black Americans. Many of them try to pass as Italian to have a better shot. So what the difference in being Black or Latina?

This is NOT about color discrimination in the black community. It’s not. Most black communities are very accepting of “white-skinned” people. I seen it first hand in more than one community/city (in the U.S.) where I’ve lived and even in my own family.

What this is about the VALUE darker-skinned people place on European features over their own! If Alek Wek had a child who was NOT biracial I’d bet a million dollars we would not have the fawning I’m seeing in these posts over children with predominantly European/white features.

Now just admit it so we can call the site something else! LOL

Hispanics do the same thing. They favor lighter-skinned Hispanics over darker skinned Hispanics. In the Hispanic community the more European Spanish you look the more acceptable you are but of course they would never admit to such a thing either although it is well known and fact. I experience it everyday in my community.

Not just skin! Hair, eyes, lips, etc. I was just watching a documentary about people of color in the U.K. getting cosmetic surgery to look white (skin, nose, eyes, etc.). Here in the U.S. there’s just more denial!

Since my comments seemed to have started a firestorm, I will state my opinion and why I feel like I do. I don’t believe that biracial = black. I don’t think President Obama is black, I think he is biracial. I think the one-drop rule is antiquated and based in the theory of white supremacy. I don’t think black people come in all colors, it’s just that what has been called black over the years has been bastardized. I don’t want my black daughter growing up with a complex because she sees girls like this one, who are clearly not black, being held up as a standard of what black girls should like. It’s not healthy in a society where all things black are derided, ridiculed or ignored altogether. The fact is breaking everyting down into racial categories is the white man’s game, created to highlight things that make us different rather than unite us. However since it’s their game I don’t feel it necessary to play by their rules.

Do you ever wonder why black folks are obsessed with “good hair” or light skin or “pretty eyes?” It’s due to the fact that mixed people were elevated to the standard of “good black.” Why? Because they were actually as white as they were black, which made them more acceptable to white society as they felt the only thing that could make a black person acceptably smart, pretty or otherwise attractive was to be part white, yet at the same time their black blood prevented them from being pure, so they could never be called white!

Anyway I have no problem with biracial people, I just wish we could call things as they are and recognize the ways in which we have been brainwashed into legitimizing white racism.

I partly agree and partly disagree. I have biracial family members and being half-white has never granted them any benefits or any acceptance into white society. Many biracial ppl face the exact same racism and discrimination as “full” black ppl. As a matter of fact, they may face more racism and discrimination, because they have black ppl like you who tell them that they’re not really black as well as white ppl who throw the N word at them and treat them every bit of black! Imagine being someone like Barack Obama, who’s being called every racist name ever spoken, and then not even being completely accepted by black ppl! Lol. I mean, it’s like “I have them calling me a “N”, and I have this black lady telling me i’m not really black” – what the hell! I somewhat see where you are coming from, I do! But I believe it’s possible to teach your daughter to be proud of her more ethnic features (not that I know what your daughter looks like), and still teach her that yes we do come in all shades and colors, and that some of us are mixed, but still black…

I’m sorry, AJA, but I don’t agree. Biracial and Black are not exclusive, totally different, totally separate racial groups. They never have been in U.S. history and they most likely never will be, as long as political & economic power as a group, is important to African-Americans. Bastardized? No, the last time I checked, it was actually something beautiful called diversity. The Black community is DIVERSE. We shouldn’t separate on something as trivial as complexion and degrees of “white blood” because everyone loses…loses unity, loses cohesiveness, loses influence. Black people really do come in a variety of physical looks–that is completely and throroughly undeniable. I see that in my own Black family, where the color, features, and hair textures range. Biracial and Black, to me, are basically the same thing, just slight variations.

These may seem like silly questions (and maybe they are) but, I really would like to know…

If you consider Barack Obama to be mixed, do you also consider Malia and Sasha to be mixed?

Since no black person is 100% black, should we ALL say that we are mixed, or do you have to have a certain percentage to be considered “mixed?”

Sure, yeah, I consider the president’s daughters mixed. I also consider them Black, just as I consider President Obama Black and Mixed. I don’t consider being mixed as something “separate” from Black. It’s a part of the Black experience, being of mixed background, in my opinion. For example, my grandma’s side of the family were Black folks with Irish and Cherokke lineage and my grandpa’s side of the family were Black folks with French Creole heritage. They were all Black AND Mixed people. I consider myself both Black and Mixed. As for percentages, I don’t consider them important. It’s all about a person’s cultural upbringing and family influences. :-)

Melissa……..you are so ignorant. I guess Lionel’s Richie children by his second wife isn’t his due to their white complexions. Nahla isn’t Gabe’s due to her darker complexion. MJ oldest son looks just like him back in the day and he definitely looks biracial. Paris just takes more after her mother and she is no darker than Lionel’s second daughter. Lady that played Victoria on “Young and the Restless” daughter is pure white with blue eyes/blonde hair. You must be black, sometimes we can be so simple minded even when we see the truth in our own race everyday. I am Halle’s complexion, with same grain of hair, yet my mother and 3 of my brothers is Gabrielle Union complexion. My father and 2 other brothers is the complexion of Tyreese. Yes, I am my parents biological daughter, I just inherited genes from my mother side that have kin that look like me.I don’t know what race the child is above, I dont care, she is beautiful.

I would have never known this child was bi-racial. Just because she has straight-hair and light-skin doesn’t mean one of the parents is “White” Absurb! I am light and have straight hair – Both my parents check Negro. My daughter is light and has straight hair and both her parents (myself and my ex-spouse) are black! The “Whitest” looking Black people in the world are those who have two light-skinned black parents. Don’t believe me? Who looks “whiter” Lena Horne or Halle Berry? Answer: Lena Horne. Barack Obama or Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.? Answer: Powell. This “have to be bi-racial if you look exotic, have straight hair and light skin thing” is NEW. White people often don’t understand that miscegenation has be taking place for centuries…these new bi-racial kids are NOTHING NEW. To say that a person who “looks white” but has two light-skinned Black parents, so they should call themselves “bi-racial” is INSULTING, and racially insensitive. They are Black, because both their parents check “Black”.

Tooth decay ruins the enamel that covers and protects your teeth. When you don’t take good care of your mouth, bacteria can cling to your teeth and form a sticky, colorless film called dental plaque. This plaque can lead to tooth decay and cavities. Gum disease can also cause your teeth to decay.
