Singer Jill Scott graces the cover of the latest issue of Ebony/Jet magazine. In the issue, the working mom talks about juggling her career, motherhood, her new Tyler Perry movie and much more! The following is an excerpt from the issue:

Chances are when Jill Scott looks back on the last year she’ll be both grateful and thankful. She’ll be grateful because she was blessed with the birth of her first child, Jett Hamilton Roberts, who will turn 1 next month. She’ll be thankful because, even though she broke off her engagement with her son’s father just weeks after her son’s birth, she learned a very valuable lesson that will enhance any future relationships. “The most important thing I learned is that you have to be truly equally yoked,” she said emphatically. “Not kind of, not partially, but fully and completely equally yoked. I’ve become more of a woman than I was before. I have a different energy. I’m mom. I’m single. I’m alive.”

That takes courage to do what she did. Most would be puzzled why she would make such a move just as her first child was being born, but I actually respect her for realizing that maybe they can make great parenting partners, but not spouses.

Yeah, some will say she should have realized that before sleeping with the guy and getting pregnant, but sometimes things aren’t revealed in good time and so you do your best. Hopefully her ex will step in fully in his role as father at least if not husband.

Can’t wait to see the sequel to a good Perry movie, I enjoyed the first one and Scott’s role in particular.

    Say it again, Jill!

I love me some Jilly from Philly. I can’t believe Jett will be one already. Wow. I wanna see a pic.

I like Jill Scott. She always seems so down-to-earth and real. I’m really sorry that her relationship with her son’s father fell apart. :-( I hope she can continue to maintain a positive attitude though!

So sad to hear that Jill and Lil John (not the rapper), Jett’s father, who is Mo’Nique’s late night show highly in-demand drummer, and has toured with everyone from Jill to Janet Jackson. They appeared so content together, and he’s very laidback and seemingly just as spiritual as Jill from the Atlanta folks who know him. My prayers are with both of them and their baby boy, and I simply can’t wait to see the superbad Jill this summer in concert with Maxwell in the ATL – Go, girl!
