Spike Lee and his son Jackson(born May 23rd, 1997) attended a game between the Houston Rockets and the New York Knicks on March 21, 2010 in New York City.

The dad of two recently spoke to students at the University of Memphis about the importance of education and touched on the following:

“Young ignorant black kids failing class on purpose” because “if you speak correct English, (if) you get A’s, than somehow that means you’re a sellout. This is something we have to stop because it’s genocide,” said Lee, who acknowledges that television, films and “some” rap music contribute to this way of thinking.

Spike also encouraged students to follow their dreams and to pursue careers that will stimulate their minds. Perhaps Jackson Lee is already following his dreams of becoming a Photographer one day?

I really like it when Spike does interactive activities with his kids. Looks like his son is developing an interest in pictures, too.
It’s nice spending time as a spectator, but doing something while sitting there is even better! He’s lucky yo have the Dad he has.

I agree with him too. It is pitiful that our children for years have referred to being smart as a sellout and telling other children who speak correctly that they sound “white”. That’s giving a lot of credit to white folk, who don’t all speak intelligently.

Cute. I love Spike Lee (minus the TP comments) and it would be great to see his son follow in his dad’s footsteps. If not, he will have an education to fall back on so that he can get the jobs he wants and not have to take what he can get kinda thing

Some have said the things he said many times but i haven’t seen this happen. I don’t think they are failing on purpose these kids may need more help, better parents, and teachers. There is no motivation nor role models in many of our lives and things like school become unimportant. If someone does believe if u do these things a person is a sellout, i don’t think they really believe it.
