Zakiya (pronounced zah-kee-yah) is being called a golf phenom by many sport fanatics.

Credited with pioneering and creating more young ladies interested in golf, she openly gives back and is thought to have popularized golf and people into the mainstream. She is generally admired for overcoming adversity, her philanthropic efforts of giving back and speaking engagements to become a benefactor to others.
In 2006, she became the only Atlantan to win a Medal and 1st Place in U.S. Women’s Open Local Open Qualifier. Randall began receiving national and international attention only 4 short years after playing golf at age 14.
Randall at age 17, became the first female in Georgia to win at the Championship level against an all amateur men field of players on the Golf Channel Tour.(Wikipedia)”

You go & do that thing Z! Love it when young black girls do their thing.
Pls do hate me guys, but the best thing for me in that one picture is that her caddy is a white boy. I know I’m going get jumped on for that one, so I’m going to enjoy all my laughing now.

Why is that little boy carrying her bag. The golf bag is bigger than him. lol I wish her well and hope she knows it’s okay to be a beautiful black woman in the world of golf. GOD Bless her and her game.

I’m sorry, but I hate that you’re celebrating the fact that her caddy is a young white boy. I seriously don’t see anything funny in it, and you seem to live in another era. Get over it already!
Anyway, congrats to her, I hope she will succeed.

I know! I wasn’t even going to waste a comment on that (that was going to be my additional comment) but I’m glad someone else said something about it. Her caddy looks cute and he’s probably her friend. These are the same chicks who tell other people to grow up smh

perhaps a better way to explain this situation (or scenario) is that it is somewhat “ironic”. there was a time not too long ago where she probably wouldn’t have been allowed to learn the sport of golf, let alone play on this course simply b/c of the color of her skin. there was a time not too long ago where she would have been carrying the clubs for this boy and no one would have thought twice about it. in other words the roles would have been reversed. ever heard of or seen the movie The Legend of Bagger Vance? that is exactly what came to mind when i saw this pic and when i read your comments. no one is saying it’s funny in a demeaning way. but it is ironic how the tables have been allowed to turn, so to speak. if you’re not on the receiving end, i guess it wouldn’t make any sense. anyhow, no offense meant, so none should be taken.

bck reader, I understand exactly what you mean but people need to let things evolve without making fun and joking about it. Didnt mean to be too sensitive I know no one meant any harm by it but I still felt like it was pretty immature. as always that’s just my opinion

Nicely put.

come on SOLENE, in case you did’t notice race is still a big deal in the US. no one is celebrating the fact that a white boy is her caddy it’s just look funny. and you are lying if you don’t think so too.
almost no television advertisment is made up of interacial families. it’s either a WHITE family, an asian family or a ablack family.
to make matters worst, in the black families the kids always look miixed. i makes me mad. a black couple can’t make a child with long hair down to their butt like that.
you have to admitt everytime people se a interaccil couple consisting of a white male and a black female, which is much less common in society people stare. i am currently in a relatioship with a white male and we get stared at alot. we get stared at alot from whites as well as black, young as well as old.
sSO PLEASE BE REALISTIIC AND UNDERTAND WHY SOME OF US THINK THAT IT IS FUNNY.

OK, so I don’t live in the US yet (I will go there this fall to be an au pair), I’m french, maybe I don’t get it. Everyone here can get along pretty well, whether they are white, black, mixed… Racism exists, but it’s not a big concern for young people who befriend each other regardless of race.
But what I think is that YOU, by these comments, are making race a big deal. If you see that picture and feel the need to comment it making fun of that boy, even “not in a demeaning way”, I honestly think you have a problem. He seems to be a hard-working kid, he’s probably proud to be a caddy for that young lady, and she sure didn’t choose him as a payback. Still, all you notice in the pic is not their work together or their probable friendship, but the colour of their skin and the reversed roles compared with the situation 50 years back. It’s racist and very sad in my opinion.

solone
u obiously have no understanding.after reading my comment. this is how you respond? well… the one making the big deal out of it is you. what the hell does hard working, proud, and all that crap have to do with anything. lighten up woman. i don’t give a damn when i get stared at.i just smile most of the time.
the fact remains that it looks funny. because it is uncommon. i do not ask to get stared at like a freak show when i attend my black church. but i do understand why some people do stare. a black female white male relationship is very uncommon. if i weree in a relationship with a black man i would not get stared at.

No one else realized that the boy-caddy is there just for the photo shoot? Come on, he’s dressed like a boy from the early 20th century; in mostly black clothes (which traps heat like hell) and knee socks nonetheless! How feasible would that outfit be as a caddy working in the hot sun?
Flag this
This is such an inspirational story. Why haven’t I heard of this young lady before?? Oh! my bad, we live in the U.S.A.
Flag this
solene, as far as i’m concerned, you are the oone who is making a big deal of it. what the hell does hardworking and being proud have anything to do with it. geesh. lighten up woman.
like i said i didn’t ask to get stared at like a freakshow, but i simply smile when i do get stared at. and i toatlly understant y people stare, white male black female relationship just isnt that coommon. so when people staret getting used to it they will stare a little less.
you sound like a person with no understanding. r u from france? there is so much racism going on in frnace. please don’t say that you ar ignorant of that fact.
again the pic looks very funny because it is not somthing you would normally see.
Flag this
I wasn’t responding only to you, please. Of course there is racism, did I deny it? There is racism from both whites and blacks! There is racism from asians and arabics! But there is much less racism from young people now, and in France, it seems that blacks and whites get along way much more! Times are changing, stop living in the past and comparing it to the situation back when blacks were the victims. There is as much racism from blacks today than from whites. White people today do not need to be constantly reminded of their ancestors’ ignorance.
I just found stupid that the only thing people noticed on the pic was that the boy was white! I didn’t find it that funny or surprising, this is just today’s society. Do you people laugh when you see something “unusual” (it’s not that unusual now) in the street? How ridiculous!
And for the record, Leo, there are more pics on Zakiya’s website, and I think the boy is her caddy.

I HEAR WHAT YOU’RE SAYING SOLENE…I CAN’T BELIEVE THESE FEW PICTURES WENT THIS FAR. IT’S JUST AN UP AND COMING TEEN WHO HAPPENS TO BE AFRICAN AMERICAN AND HAS A CAUCASIAN CADDY. GEEEEZ I STARTED THIS THING OFF SO POSITIVE THEN “JAI”, “TERI” AND “LEO” FOLLOWED SUIT, BUT THEN “WOW” ADDED HIS OR HER OPINION, WHICH IS FINE, AND SET IT OFF. I LIKE THAT “LEO” EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS ZAKIYA’S BROTHER. SO WHAT IF HE’S CAUCASIAN?…BE PROUD THAT CHILDREN/ YOUNG ADULTS, NOW A DAYS, ARE HAVING A VOICE MAKING A STATEMENT WITHOUT EVEN HAVING TO OPEN THEIR MOUTHS. ZAKIYA IS STATING, TO THE WORLD, LOOK OUT FOR ME… THIS IS WHAT I’M BRING…THERE AREN’T VERY MANY AFRICAN AMERICAN GOLF PLAYERS, SO BE PROUD OF WHAT SHE’S DONE AND WILL DO (AS A YOUNG LADY AND AS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN), NOT WHAT COLOUR HER CADDY IS. I SALUTE HER FOR HER TALENTS AND PROUD THAT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN YOUNG LADY IS SHOWING OFF HER EXCELLENT TALENTS

solene and evelena rae. you all are in your own world if you seriously tell me tht u did’t notice tht the caddy was white was a liitle strange, funny, eye catching or however you may put it.
are you guys budist, saying tht pain don’t exist don’t mean that it is not real.
most of the comments which were made here simply states that it is eyecatching wether u want it to be or not and i love all races. at the moment i have more white freinds then black ones. i live in a predominantly white neiboughood. i get hit on by more white males than black. so many white guys walk up tome and tell me how beaufiful iam and i still thought tht pic look strange.
IT’S NOT THE NORM. WE ARE NOT THER YET.

@ COMEON…NO I’M NOT IN MY OWN WORLD AND OBVIOUSLY I NOTICED THE CADDY’S RACE, LIKE GEEZ “COME ON”. YES IT IS DIFFERENT ‘CAUSE THE ROLLS, IN A SENSE, ARE REVERSED, BUT I WAS SAYING TO APPRECIATE ZAKIYA’S TALENT MORE THEN HER RANDOM CADDY… DON’T GIVE THAT MORE CHAT. FOR THE RECORD I DIDNT SAY PAIN DOESN’T EXIST…TRUST ME I GREW UP IN A 90% WHITE AREA, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL EVEN MY COLLEGE WAS MORE WHITE …I’VE FELT RACISM FROM WHITE PEOPLE HATING THAT I’M BLACK AND EVEN FROM BLACK PEOPLE SAYING I ACT TOO WHITE AND THAT MAYBE IT’S BECAUSE I’M LIGHT SKINNED…I THINK THE PAIN HURTS MORE FROM YOUR OWN RACE, BUT IT’S PAIN NON THE LESS. EVEN HAD TUPAC’S SONG QUOTED TO ME “THE DARKER THE FLESH THE DEEPER THE ROOTS” WHICH IS BULL… I’M BLACK AND I’M PROUD AND I KNOW MY ROOTS AND BLACK HISTORY 365 WELL PAST FEBRUARY. I WANT PEOPLE TO, YES, SAY THEY NOTICED THE SWITCH IN ROLLS, IF YOU MAY, BUT SEE WHAT SHE’S BRING TO THE TABLE ‘CAUSE IM A YOUNG MOMMY WHO WANTS MY CHILD TO BE SEEN FOR WHAT HE OR SHE DOES (ABILITIES) MORE THAN WHAT COLOUR HE OR SHE IS AND WHO HE OR SHE IS SURROUNDED BY. I WANT PPL TO SAY “YEAH, THAT KID’S TALENTED AND AMBITIOUS” “NOT THAT BLACK KID IS TALENTED AND AMBITIOUS”
I AGREE WE’RE NOT FULLY THERE YET, BUT WE’VE COME A VERY LONG WAY…I’M NOT EVEN AMERICAN AND OBAMA’S PRESIDENCY MADE ME CRY, WHILE I PROUDLY WATCHED IT ON TV WITH MY CHILD AS HE OR SHE CHANTED OH-BAMB-UH OH-BAMB-UH. EVEN SEEING A BLACK PRINCESS MADE ME EMOTIONAL TOO.

Most blacks don’t have their kids caddying or involved in golf. There are very few black golfers in the USA because it is a very expensive and time consuming sport. Caddys do more than just carry the golf bag and give the player a club or a drink. Caddys have to know the rules of the game, which is quite a bit. Most black boys may have been to busy in other sports. The kid may have been the only one she felt was most knowledgable about her game and could help her the most in reading yardages. My son plays golf and has a white caddy. If this was track and you had a white guy winning the 100 meters, then perhaps that would be funny. I’m glad to see this young lady making an impact on women’s golf.

I really, really love this girl. She’s an inspiration to young people, black or otherwise. Do you guys know that she’s a motivational speaker AND is very active with CLIS, a charity that aims to develop young athletes??? There is so much more to her that the media doesn’t know
Do check out her Web site at http://www.zakiyarandall.com so that you’d have a sense of just how great this girl is!
