There are over 26 million working mothers in this country. That’s millions of women trying to juggle motherhood with their careers.
A blogger named Jozen Cummings poses an interesting question regarding celebrity moms:
“Quick, in five seconds, name three female celebrities whose career maintained or grew in momentum after they had children or got married and had children. I’ll wait.”
Jozen answers, “Personally, I have no issue with women who have kids. If anything I do believe real-life experiences, especially ones on the level of bringing a person into the world and matrimony, can make for some inspiring art. But the only art we’re talking about here is the art of staying famous, and to be good at that requires as little outside distractions as possible. No matter how capable some of these female artists are of juggling the jobs of motherhood and stardom, their success at the latter unfortunately isn’t determined by them, it’s determined by the masses. And what the masses usually tell female artists who give birth and attempt to make a comeback is one simple word: Stop.”
It appears that even celebrity moms have a hard time balancing their careers with children. Can working mothers have it all?

The truth is no one can have it all. Whether you are rich, poor or in the middle life is about choices and compromise. I am a working mother and I have missed out on some of my children’s events and activities. As for my career, I love what I do, but have turned down some interesting opportunities because I chose not to travel and be away from my children for weeks at a time. If you are married or dating there are times when those relationships take a back seat because of all the juggling modern life requires. I have friends who do not work outside the home and miss the stimulation and adult interaction that you get in a challenging work environment. Rather than needing or striving to “have it all”, I think we each need to find balance and meaning in our lives that in turn leads to personal happiness and fulfillment. BTW successful men don’t have it all either!

I think it’s hard having it all if you are married with no kids. The everday woman working in Corporate America has to juggle the challenges and high expectations of work; they have to ensure their partner is happy and content with their relationship; maintain a clean and functional house and they have to maintain their physical and financial well being as well. Some things take priorities and some things take a backseat. Add just 1 child to that scenario and no, I don’t think women can have it all but we can can have majority of the pie.
Like peopele have commented above, you can’t compare everday women with millionaires or celebrities because they have a whole staff of help and resources. So it’s much easier for them to have a great career and have a house full of kids if they choose.

Let me put it this way: a working mother can have it all if she wants, but something has to take a backseat or two. You can’t have it all at once.
As someone else said, it’s easier for celebrity women as they have staff working for them. How many regular working mothers have nannies, personal chefs, personal assistants and shoppers, housekeepers and pet sitters, etc on speed dial? I know I couldn’t think of any of those women in 5 seconds.
Oh please! In this context, yes! Halle Berry. Mo’Nique, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon…many more (I’m already bad at naming famous people…I usually say “you know that girl in that movie…”). Point is, people need to define for themselves what it means to “have it all”. Does it mean your life is still full of meaning? Hell YES! Does it mean you’re happy and have all the things you’ve wanted or have them on your to-do list? YES! People still think that mothering belongs inside the home, and ONLY in the home, but many women are breaking that old (and very limiting) idea. Women with kids have been fabulous and amazing at doing many things at once for years!! If this blogger is talking about bias against mothering? Yes, it does exist. But if we don’t challenge it and only stand there pointing it out, we’ll never get anywhere. So, get to it – change things! Any less is just pointing out the obvious…and doing nothing about it. Or just ask men to do their part! It’s about time.

For the average mom is very very hard. Especially if your a single parent. Those celebrity moms have two to three nanies heping them 24 hours a day. Too many people out here think it’s easy because they see celebrities left and right having children. It’s easy for them because they have the funds. The average woman don’t have the funds. We have babysitters and we must pick up our children at a certain times then when we arrive home from work we have to cook, clean and spent time with the kids. That’s hard after just doing a 9 to 5 job. With Celebrities their meals are cook for them and their household is taken care of. Being a working mother is very very hard. If you have a good support system, then your ok, but if you have no help at all, it can very challenging.
I agree with you that it is hard for the average woman, even if they are married it is still hard depending on their work schedules…

Angelina (as mentioned above), Mo’Nique, Taraji P. Henson, Regina King, Heidi Klum (stopped modeling but she was getting old. moved on to Project Runway.), Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Kate Gosselin (lol), Vanessa Williams.
I think that’s enough. Of course you can have it all, but you have to count up the cost of what’s best for you and your family.
It took me longer than 5 seconds but I think Angelina Jolie is one actress who has gained momentum since motherhood.
To me, being a parent is the most important job on the planet AND one of the hardest. I’m sure with many of these famous women, motherhood trumps their outside job by a long shot. I can’t confirm that, but for any loving mother, their children are numero uno.
Anyway, to answer the question because they have money and resources such as nannies, cooks, maids, etc., I would think being a mom and having a career would be easier than the average Jane. They have many options a lot of us cannot afford; therefore, they can have an outside career and motherhood. Their popularity may or may not wane, but maybe when they decided to have a baby, their “other” career took a backseat and their child(ren) became front and center. I don’t know because I don’t get into celeb’s lives that deeply (shrugging shoulders).
The real question is: how many moms can have it all WITHOUT the nannies, drivers, chef, maids, and etc.?
And the answer is NONE. Everyone makes all these celebs look like super mom.
Michelle Obama perfect example. Everyone showers her and her family with praise of how she is an awesome mom and etc., yes she is but she doesn’t have to work twice as hard as we normal people do. She has a chef, a driver, a shopper, an assistant, and who knows what else.
If I lived in the White House and in a blink of a second I could have whatever I wanted when I wanted it without even moving a hair, would I be super mom too, cause I know how to use my hands and order people around?
People see pics of celebs reading to children, visiting hospitals, and they say oh, she’s a great mom. How can you get all of that from a pic? Who knows how they act once the cameras aren’t around? Some of them are so busy that the nannies are practically raising their kids.
Kimora can’t even cook, she said it herself on her show. I’m haf Italian and half Black, women that cannot cook especially if they are a mom was unheard of when I was growing up with my mom’s side of the family (italian). Kimora has nannies left and right, maids, chef, driver, yet people say she is an awesome mom because they see pics of her daughters at soccer practice and walking the runways. Yes, she is doing a great job raising her girls but I doubt she would make it a week without her staff.
In my opinion, the celebrities who have all the nannies and etc. aren’t real moms, they are part time moms and the nannies are the other half.
A few of the moms that I think are real hands on moms, are: Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Kendra, Heidi Klum (although she has nannies, 90% of the time she is the primary care giver), Garcelle Beauvais, Laila Ali, Brandy, Jada, and those are most of the ones that are featured on this site that I can think of off the top of my head.
Very interesting points, Amy, and I would think a lot of people would agree that when you have the luxury of money and what it can buy, it makes life a lot easier. My mom worked two full time jobs and a part time job when I was growing up. Thank God for my dearest Nana.

Before you state the current situation of Michelle Obama, please rememebr that she has just accquired a chef, etc. within the last two years. Here is a woman who was the solo parent for awhile. Her husband was away from home alot due to his job. She provided her girls with stability and support BY HERSELF during that time. She is an amazing woman!! Have you checked her resume’ lately and then did the math as far as dates and ages of her children? Many of us juggle motherhood,careers, and personal lives. That is what being a mother, wife, girlfriend, sister and daughter is all about. And if you have help MORE POWER TO YOU. It really takes a village to raise a child.
