The surnames mean nothing in SOME african cultures. Where I am from in Uganda generally you can have 8 kids and they will all have different surnames. This is because it’s not seen as something that bonds the family and signifies them being a family unit. It’s generally just a chosen name to symbolise something about the birth or circumstances around the birth or just something affectionate like ‘god loves you’ (lol something along those lines). Things are changing slowly in Uganda now though and people are ‘picking’ a surname but like my cousins (10) from same mum and dad they all have different second names.

Please note I can’t speak for the whole of Africa as it aint a country! Different groups of people in one country can be so distinct that it would be foolish to generalise across a whole continent. End of disclaimer

Do they have different fathers? I know in some cultures you take the mothers name, but the 3 diff names throws me.Kwesi & Kofi resemble 1 another IMO.

    Lovely they are.
