Hi, this is a good post!

  • lilkunta June 23, 2010 at 1:42 am

Both these names are ghetto and trashy.
Please give your child a real name like Colin or Nancy.
    Thanks.

  • nappykat June 17, 2010 at 10:49 pm

Black people are their own worse enemies. Get off the name tip and let them people name their kids WHATEVA.

Seriously, ‘Whateva’ is a great name.

My name is nappykat, and I support the ghetto names club.

  • nappykat June 17, 2010 at 10:47 pm

Woah, a black NFL player with a black woman and having black kids? Is this day and age?

Who let the cat outta that bag on that one.

    Anyway, CONGRATS. Cute couple.

  • seankordw June 17, 2010 at 11:46 am

They are a cute couple. Congrats to them! I’m a “La” child also LaTanya and I love it; what ever they name their child is their business. I just wish them a healthy baby and a happy life!

  • ME(&&WHAT) June 17, 2010 at 8:03 am

They are a beautiful couple. Congrats to them

  • Sangria June 17, 2010 at 6:45 am

    You guys are so funny…..NOT!
And NO… you Black Americans do not name your kids after any African Culture (@ Mimosa)!

And Yes, most of the Black American names does imply a certain level of conciousness/or the lack of it, on the part of the parent.

Not being rude in any way just stating the obvious.

    • ME(&&WHAT) June 17, 2010 at 8:14 am

“YOU BLACK AMERICANS”???? OBVIOUSLY U ARE NOT A BLACK AMERICAN SO HOW DO U KNOW THE NAMES GIVEN TO KIDS ARE NOT CULTURAL…STICK TO YOUR ROOTS IF U ONLY WANT TO PUT OUR PEOPLE DOWN. U SOUND SO IGNORANT TO ASSUME BLACK PEOPLE DONT NAME THEIR KIDS NAMES WITH MEANING…THAT JUST SHOWS HOW CLOSED MINDED U ARE..SMH U ARE NOT STATING OBVIOUS UR STATING YOUR GARBAGE OPINION….

    • TRUTH!! June 17, 2010 at 4:16 pm

      Sangria,

You are on the wrong site..

  • AplMACLADY June 17, 2010 at 2:10 am

    whoo those names! lol

man, pls I hope they don’t name their kids “LA—.”

Nice looking couple though and congrats…

  • Leo June 16, 2010 at 3:53 pm

Wow, a young black celebrity couple that married before starting a family? O_O *checks for flying pigs*

All joking aside, I wish them all the best on their new addition and new life as a family. :D I’m genuinely happy for them!

    • Sherley June 16, 2010 at 5:39 pm

Stop…you’re killing me…checking for flying pigs. LOL.

I thought this was their second child.

I too am genuinely happy for them.

      Congrats!

  • county50 June 16, 2010 at 2:25 pm

  • Sunshine June 16, 2010 at 2:18 pm

I remember how excited he was when he found out. Congrats to them! They are a good looking couple.

  • PlainMean June 16, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Lol we haven’t moved passed judging people by their names yet? Oh, ok. But LT is a very intelligent and humble guy, I like him and his wife together. But I swear it seems she’s been pregnant forever!

  • luvbug June 16, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Who care what some of you think when it comes to naming their child!!!! don’t pay any bills in their house. Evelina Rae always making statements about someone’s name as if hers is the greatest. Just happy to see black love and happiness. Peace and congrats to them both on their baby.

    • EVELINA RAE June 16, 2010 at 4:17 pm

AGAIN “LUVBUG” as i stated last time you said you didn’t like my name on the Nia Long page…you don’t know my name, so whatever!

    • Stormy June 17, 2010 at 12:22 pm

      LuvBug ~ My thoughts exactly!!!!

No one on BCK is paying LaDainian or LaTorsha’s bills –
So why would they care what they name their son ??? !!!!

Just GLAD to see two black parents together who marry and then have kids…unlike most folks who do it the other way around…or just have kids but NEVER get married!

      GREAT BLACK LOVE !!!

  • Teri June 16, 2010 at 12:05 pm

    Congrats to this beautiful couple.

  • mena June 16, 2010 at 12:03 pm

Congrats! Whatever they decide to name their child will be their business. Names that start with “La” are not stupid.

  • Fashionedbygod33 June 16, 2010 at 12:00 pm

    How beautiful are they? Congratulations.

  • lulu June 16, 2010 at 11:34 am

Congrats to this couple .. im just afraid of what they name the baby as well lol

    • Mimosa June 16, 2010 at 4:41 pm

Why “lulu”? Why be “afraid”? These 2 people didn’t name themselves, their parents named them. They had no say in the matter. Just silly, that’s for sure.

  • EVELINA RAE June 16, 2010 at 11:21 am

Hopefully they don’t name their son “LA”-SOMETHING-STUPID

All the best! I hope you have a healthy baby boy!

    • Beth June 16, 2010 at 11:42 am

      “SOMETHING-STUPID”
      Yeah like Evelina…JK

      • AJA June 16, 2010 at 12:23 pm

Typing “JK” after you make a rude comment doesn’t make it any less rude. Grow up. She’s entitled to her opinion just like everyone else who posts here without your asinine personal attacks.

        • bck reader June 16, 2010 at 1:12 pm

          agreed.

and maybe saying stupid sounds a bit harsh but…it is what it is. i thought the same thing.

          • TP June 16, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Yeah but yesterday on the Michael Lynch post wasn’t Evelina the one who asked what is up with everybody naming their babies Laila, Rose, Sunday, etc.? So she questions those names and calls this couples name stupid? What is a suitable name to her? Also wasn’t her comment kind of rude?

          • EVELINA RAE June 16, 2010 at 4:21 pm

TP, i didn’t say i didn’t like the names Laila or Lola i said what’s up with everyone naming their children those names. They’re not very common names, but i think the popularity is growing.

        • Beth June 16, 2010 at 3:20 pm

Um was my comment directed at you? Her comment was rude so I replied with a rude comment. Childish? Sure. Now while I wouldn’t name my child something like that, that is their business if they choose to. Those names have no meaning just like the trendy names you see going around today. Ex. Caden, Jaxson, Destiny, Carson, Nevaeh, etc.
Also seeing as I have no doubt that people with names like that read this site (this is bck after all), I’d suggest you stop calling their names stupid.

          • EVELINA RAE June 16, 2010 at 4:29 pm

i didn’t call LADAINIAN AND LATORSHA’s names stupid. I said i hope they don’t name their son “LA” because they both have it (which is fine) then add something random (or as i put it stupid) Someone on another page (michael lynch) had good examples of stupid names that i had just read, it was my opinion on “unique” names that come across as “stupid”, but again i didn’t say their names were stupid or names that begin with LA are stupid.

      • Mimosa June 16, 2010 at 4:09 pm

Lol @ Beth. You have a point.

      • Sherley June 16, 2010 at 5:55 pm

That was not necessary. You know if you heard those names while walking down an urban street, you’d shake your head or raise you eyebrows.

I do not always agree w/Evelina Rae, but she is entitled to her own opinion, just like you are.

She doesn’t like the name…that’s her issue. Don’t make it yours.

        • Mimosa June 16, 2010 at 6:41 pm

How do you know SHERLEY? Just because YOU think a certain way doesn’t mean everyone does. If “Sherley” is your real name are we to assume your mom was uneducated or “ghetto” thus the uncommon spelling of your name? Or maybe your mom liked the name, but wanted to put a unique twist on it?
I have to admit that long ago I was guilty of thinking negatively about the way others chose to name their children. I realized I was going along with what I’d been subjected to and just going along with what everyone else thought, but after assessing it for myself I didn’t have any issue with the names.

          • Sherley June 17, 2010 at 4:42 pm

My mother named me Sherley & spelled it this way because in my culture that is the way one spells it.

Now I was about to put you in your place till I notice your name is Mimosa. Figured you been thru enough with that already.

When I want your opinion, I’ll give it to you.

          • Mimosa June 19, 2010 at 1:41 am

Sherely, “Mimosa” is just my screen name. I thank you for proving my point though, but am sorry to say your ignorance is still showing. Now go look up ‘mimosa’ and find out what it is and was before a cocktail was given the name. :)

          • Sherley June 19, 2010 at 12:25 pm

Apparently you seem to think I give a damn about you or your “screen name” chosen after a drink. Why not pick Alize or Hennessey?

How’s that for my ignorance showing through.

        • Monique June 17, 2010 at 12:33 am

My friends and I have all made a non-ghetto pack to not name our children “La, Da, Ta” anything. I know I roll my eyes every time a customer service rep answers with one. You can be unique without sounding ignorant or ridiculous…and that goes for Jermajesty, Pilot Inspecktor, and other stupid celeb names too. But at least the celeb kids don’t have to deal with that stigma because they aren’t applying for the jobs we are.

Maybe it’s because no one in my family have “made-up” names but I’d never do that to my child. It just screams, “Guess what race I am and what type of neighborhood I’m from?” even if it couldn’t be further from the truth.

You may now proceed to light me on fire…

          • EVELINA RAE June 17, 2010 at 8:14 am

Monique, i like your opinion on the subject.

Celebrity kids won’t really need to hand in resumes, so it’s different, i agree. Names like Domani(da-money) T.I.’s 2nd son are odd, but he’ll get by. Sometimes it has a lot to do with the parents age when the child was born. In T.I.’s case he was like 20 when he had Domani and at that time he felt that was “proper” name to give his second son. I like that he named his others Messiah, with obvious meaning, King (Clifford,III.) and Major. Those names show he wanted to make them strive for the highest and be the greatest as their names are; although, it doesn’t mean i like those names for my own…his reasons for naming them this make them seem better. Maybe if he has more he’ll name them General, Emperor, Duke or Colonel.

          • shaggzster June 17, 2010 at 8:59 am

I agree 100%. All 4 of us girls had “LA” middle names — LaShae, LaShaunn, LaKatrice, and LaNyette. Two first names are pretty “hooded”; Thankfully, my youngest sister and I lucked out and were named by other relatives.

LaShaunn here tossed that name out of the window as soon as I got married, so now my maiden name is my official middle name.

          • Pisces June 19, 2010 at 8:48 pm

            LOL!

    • mena June 16, 2010 at 12:03 pm

Whatever they decide to name their child will be their business. Names that start with “La” are not stupid.

      • EVELINA RAE June 16, 2010 at 1:08 pm

I didn’t say that they were. I said “LA” because both of their names begin with it. I said something stupid cause black people love to name their kids stuff like LaQueeshiana DaFabulous ect. this was actually discussed on a different BCK page(MICHAEL LYNCHE AND FAMILY AT THE “UNNATURAL HISTORY” PREMIERE)where people that work in HR toss out resumes with names that are hard to pronounce and spell.

        • Mimosa June 16, 2010 at 4:30 pm

@ Evelina Rae, you really need to get a clue as do a lot of other people. People make the assumption that every (Black) name they’ve never heard must not have any meaning without making any effort whatsoever to research it. A lot of times people’s names are taken from African tribes, countries etc. I will go even further to say that even if someone’s name can’t be found in the baby name books and sites doesn’t mean it’s without value. That shows how biased things are. Anyway, every child’s name means something to their parents. I have a preference for names that pertain to nature/plants and all 4 of my kids are named as such. I can just imagine how “Stupid” someone thought it was to name kids after flowers (such as, Lily, Rose, Violet) when it first occurred, but it became the norm. It seems that no matter what African Americans do and their reason for doing it people (even our own) are determined to see us as and state that we are “ghetto”. The people that take issue with names only need not name their children that way. Just because YOU don’t like a certain form of name doesn’t mean you should put down those that do. What people name their children isn’t for YOU to like anyway, it’s for THEM. If their kids take issue then they can have it legally changed when they are of age.

          • shaggzster June 16, 2010 at 9:16 pm

So to reiterate, although we’re on a blog we’re not supposed to have any opinions? We’re supposed to just nod and smile at every post to be polite? Thanks for the memo.

          • EVELINA RAE June 17, 2010 at 7:53 am

I don’t need to get a clue, thank you very much. It’s my opinion and i’m free to voice it…just as you’re free to disagree and state your own opinion.

Name are funny and don’t mean anything unless you’ve chosen them. I have mixed raced cousins named Tyreese and Taneesa and full black cousins named Riley, Melissa, John and Dylan…people are very surprised when they see them ’cause they don’t “fit” their names (what society says people with these names should look like)I think you should name your kids what you want to name them, but i don’t have to like it…not my kids just my opinion. I’ve chosen to name my kids something in between the classified “ghetto” name and the classified “white people” names, but maybe someone out there will still say they’re names are too “black” or too “white” that’s their opinion and they’re free to state it.

        • Mimosa June 16, 2010 at 4:38 pm

When I first saw this picture I thought Mekhi Phifer had a new baby coming and she reminds me of Lela Rochon. :) Anyway, they are a gorgeous couple and I’m very happy for them that they are expecting. :)

    • PlainMean June 16, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Lol here comes the lynch mob! Its really not that serious, I swear sometimes this website reminds me of “Hot Topics” on The View!

      • Mimosa June 16, 2010 at 6:43 pm

        So?

        • PlainMean June 16, 2010 at 8:16 pm

So, what? You want more? It was my observance and my opinion. If you have nothing to add then you have the ability to keep it moving.

          • Mimosa June 19, 2010 at 1:45 am

I’ve added more than enough. Now what?

    • Sherley June 16, 2010 at 5:51 pm

I am right there w/you. I saw their names & I was like what is up w/those names?

Who names a boy LaDianian? Now I’m sure it stands for something, like a combination of mom & dad name. This doesn’t mean I think he’s a bad person; I just think his parents could have not done that to him.

LaTrosha could have been from the era when the La-s were popular. Latasha, Latanya, etc. Again this does not mean I think it makes her a bad person; just wish her parents would have chosen another name.

I can imagine they both had a laugh when they got together. It sounds so cute…just like them.

They deserve this miracle & I know they will be great parents. But I do hope their child’s name does not begin w/La. Unless of course he’s name after dad…then all righttt!

  • misskjp June 16, 2010 at 11:19 am

    Congrats….the wife is very pretty.

  • Evolving June 16, 2010 at 11:05 am
