I am looking forward to the series. I love Terry crews!

I love Terry too! I loved him in the movie, White Chicks, and on Everybody Hates Chris. I hope this show turns out to be a winner!

the show is sooo super wack…save yourself from this mess. as much as i soo LOVE Terry Cruise, and ice cube….this show is a waste of time to me, its not funny, its supper boring!!
-My opinion..

Terry Crews is a handsome man and can’t wait to see this series as well.

I hope it’s like the modern day Cosby show-lol. Anyway, i clicked on the link to see the preview and i must say that it seems like a family friendly show. I like!

Big Shoes to fill. Cosby is a classic.

Looks nice.

I’m definately going to watch. I love to watch new Afro American sitcoms. Can’t wait to watch every single episode.

I really like both Essence and Terry as actors. They are both funny of what I have seen of their work. I am going to try to check this out, esp. w/Cube executive producing.

Can hardly wait for this sitcome. Love Terry Crews and anxious to see Essence Atkins again because I loved HALF AND HALF.
Flag this
I liked Half and Half too. Its a silly show, but good silly. I enjoyed both the mom and daughter roles. Essence with those big ol’ eyes (she is uniquely pretty) and Rachel True who reminds me of the old Mel B with the wild curly hair (who knew this chic was mid 40′s not that it matters-but I need to know her secret–lol). AND that actress that played Essence’s mom on the show, her character was a trip and a half
.

GTSA are you telling me that the lady who played Essence’s half sister was 40? If so, cut my legs off and call me shortie. Child that woman didn’t look a day older the Essence.
Flag this
Yes, Essence Atkins is 38 years old, and Rachel True is 43
Flag this
Wow, I can’t believe Essence is 38. I remember watching her on Smart Guy and Half and Half but I still feel like she should be younger than that. I was gonna say I think it’s really weird that she and Terry will be playing a couple because I feel like he could be her father (I don’t know how old he is) or brother because they just don’t go well together as a couple for me but the show looks like it will be a winner.
And it looks like the woman who played Mona’s mom ( drawing a blank on her name right now) will be playing Essence’s mom in this series at least from what I gather from the previews.

I was surprised too. She played a teenager well into her twenties or was it even early thirties? in a supernatural teen flick called The Craft a few years back and was really believable as a teen.
She and Essence come off younger than their chron ages. I thought they were in their twenties for real just as their characters were depicted on the show. So from one shortie to the other
.

The little girl is the voice of Turtle Tuck on Wonder Pets. Lol. I dont know if i’ll watch the show. Dont like Essence with her crooked mouth and bad attitude. Might give it a chance because of Terry Crews silly self.
Flag this
i’ll definitely be watching this show. since i was a fan of Essence from Half and Half and Terry Crews from Everybody Hates Chris and his family reality show The Family Crews.

let me also just add that i’m excited to see that Keesha Sharp will also be a part of this show. i thought she was great on Girlfriends. even though she got some flack because people felt like her character was a replacement for Toni. she did her thing on that show, and i’m happy to see her again on another sitcom.
always gotta support the African-American sitcoms. there’s not that many on the air, and networks are too quick to pull one off if they think in the slightest that the show won’t do well. The Game is a perfect example.
Flag this
Not a fan of either one of them. Terry is funny though. I am going to check it out. I know I desire a refreshing change from the junk that has infiltrated television, especially a show on surrounding a Black family. Plus, I see the actress who played Monica on Girlfriends is on there, and she is a hoot.

this better not be no tyler perry “meet the browns” type of nonsense or “house payne” for that matter. S-T-U-P-I-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant stand those shows. if it this show has a little more substance and sense to it without all that ignorant loud hollering like those other shows i might consider watching it
Flag this
Even though I don’t watch House of Payne consistently, it is not tomfoolery and buffoonish or as Spike Lee said it, coonery and buffoonery as he described Meet the Browns. Now that show it just ridiculous and does not get my support. I know they talk a little loud on HOP, but they are funny and the show has come along way since its inception. It’s a pretty good show.
Flag this
absolutely you’re right, the show has come a long way. it had its quarks that needed to be worked out in the beginning, but i think now they’ve found a nice balance. i think it has a lot to do with the fact that the directing is different. i get them mixed up, but Kim Fields (Regine on Living Single, Tooti on Facts of Life) and her mom Chip Hurd are directing House of Payne and Meet the Browns. can’t remember which one does which. but there is a noticeable difference from when these shows both initially aired. i am one of those who has watched both shows since their inceptions, so i’ve seen how they have both gotten better over time. especially House of Payne.
Flag this
I thought I saw one of those names on HOP or somewhere recently. It must have been on that show. I cannot speak for the Browns because I don’t watch that, but yes HOP has gotten much better. I find them, particularly the father, hilarious. I know MTB is relatively new, so maybe it will get better because I know a lot of people don’t like it.

i bet it’s the character of Mr. Brown that is throwing people off. but i mean, what can ya say, it’s Brown lol! he’s the same way in Tyler Perry’s plays and movies. i guess it’s one of those things where you either like him or you don’t. i like watching Meet the Browns because of Laman Rucker who plays Brown’s nephew Will. he also played Troy in Why Did I Get Married (1 & 2). now thas some eye candy for ya
Flag this
i just dont like all that loud hollering. too stereotypical.
Flag this
Cant wait for this show. I already have my dvr set to record the series.

I think Essence and Terry is an odd pairing! It will be interesting to see how this plays out!
Flag this
I agree, it is an odd pairing.

The children actually look like they could be theirs if they were to… “you know”.
But I really like Essence and Terry too.
I wonder sometimes, is Essence Atkins Diana Ross’ long lost daughter?
No one can tell me that she doesn’t look like Tracee Ellis!
They should play sisters in something!
They both had shows on UPN too. How funny?! =)

I will definitely have to check this out.

Girlfriend, you know it (lol). I remember his character in Tyler’s earlier plays and he has continued on with this character. It’s really a matter of preference. Some people find the humor in it and some don’t. I believe that we as a community, are a bit more sensitive and rightfully so, to our portrayals on t.v. It has to be more of a balance in my opinion. As much as L. Rucker is nice eye candy, not enough for me to watch (lol). A little of that goes a long way.
bck reader,
i bet it’s the character of Mr. Brown that is throwing people off. but i mean, what can ya say, it’s Brown lol! he’s the same way in Tyler Perry’s plays and movies. i guess it’s one of those things where you either like him or you don’t. i like watching Meet the Browns because of Laman Rucker who plays Brown’s nephew Will. he also played Troy in Why Did I Get Married (1 & 2). now thas some eye candy for ya

i think the character of Brown worked the best (not that it’s an excuse) for Tyler Perry’s plays. just because in general the characters have to overact and/or project in order to reach the audience members in the cheap seats lol! but i can see how his character is a bit much for movies and tv. it’s like dang, can’t nobody be that ignant lol! i’ll also say besides Laman, the other actors are pretty good, too. much more normal
Flag this
LOL @ cheap seats. You know you ain’t right. It is too much. Will they ever allow him to pronounce a word correctly? It’s like, okay now. The white ash on the knees. Yeah…….ummm (lol). I remember him from the plays. That’s the type of character you introduce into a play or 2 and then keep it moving (lol). His wife in real life is a pretty good actress.
Flag this
not to mention Brown’s Crayola-inspired wardrobe. they have got to be hand making that stuff for him, because it is beyond tacky lol! and speaking of his wife, it was weird at first that she plays his daughter on the show. and that he laid down with Madea, of all people, and had her! wrong on so many levels lol!
Flag this
Oh the outfits are just crazy. His wife is his daughter on the show? (lol – yes that sounds funnY). She’s always called him Mr. Brown. Yes, he and Madea had a relationship. The whole thing is weird.
Flag this
cant wait to see this show!
Flag this
Yeah I think these two are an odd pairing because she does have a youthful look to her but I will check it out.
On a side note the woman A.J. Johnson who played Tyrese mother in Baby Boy looks young too, she looked more like one of his girlfriends than his momma.

I hate to say it but I thought the show was pretty boring hopefully it gets better with time
Flag this
I agree. Iwas boring. I hope it improves as well. I think they need better writers, Ice Cube can go, replace Essence Atkins and the kids with better actors and the show will be better. I think. Terry was good but he can’t hold the show by himself.
Flag this
To add my two cents, I, too, was disappointed in the show. I watched the first episode in full, but was sick of the fake electronic laughter ten minutes into the second (espcially since no one in my house was laughing). Chime in the crickets…. I think Cube has great cast of veteran actors. The show would be alot better if he had quality writing, which unfortunaley the show was lacking.
Flag this
I agree. I watched both episodes, but it didn’t grab me but I am going to give it a chance. I don’t care for the actors that Cube selected. Something is just little off. The writing needs to improve as well.
Flag this
i thought the show was fine. i watched both episodes.

This show ws not good like Everybody hates chris. It was a few good jobs but that was it. Terry was good. The kids and Essence wasn’t funny at all. I hope this show improves.
Flag this
omgee! i love essence! she is so hot.lol and i love her name! yeahhh the kids do look like they belong to her………. and she does look like tracee ellis lol
Flag this
Thought the first two shows were boring will give it another chance next week. If there is no improvement, will stop watching.
Flag this
Yeah that show wasnt even funny, I thought it would be boring after looking at the previews. The kids are not funny.
Flag this
This show was not funny, boring and stereotypical. Essence character was always yelling, fussing and cutting her husband down. Terry Cruise character has no back bone and the kids are disrespectful and their behavior was egged on by the mother. With the black family under attack and with black women being sterotyped as pushy and always downing black men, this show does nothing to dispell that sterotype. All I saw was a spineless black man being yelled at be his bossy, angry black wife, and disrespectful, smart alec sassy black kids. I know its just entertainment, but we live in a time where people look to TV as a reflection of everyday life and WE have to be careful what image we put out there. And this wasnt even entertainment.
Flag this
the show is soooooooo funny the children are funny because they do devious things to get terry out of the house
Flag this
The kids and the white guy need to go. They have no comedy timing!
Flag this
The show is stupid and the writers need better skills than this the show will not last essence is wack and tacky the kids look like back in the days eddie munster please people if your going to do a show think better writing creation a funny lady as the mother essence is dry as my wheat toast come one people give the audience a break
