It was only a few days of vacation time, but according to President Obama, his family trip to Maine was the highlight of his month.

He says in an interview with ABC’s The View, “Well in the last month the rose has to be a couple of days we took in Maine with Michelle and Sasha and Malia, and we went on bike rides and hikes, and the girls are getting old enough now where they’re not quite teenagers yet, so they still like you, but they are full of opinions and ideas and observations, and it’s just a great age. Malia just turned 12 and Sasha just turned nine, and it couldn’t have been a better couple of days.”

As the saying goes, “Every rose has its thorns.” For the president, there have been many thorns in his presidency in the past few weeks.

“Obviously the country has gone through a tough stretch since I took office. When I was sworn in, I know you showed the Inauguration, we were losing at that time 750,000 jobs per month, the economy was shrinking at a pace of about 6.5%, which is unheard of since the Great Depression, and so the last 20 months has been a non-stop effort to restart the economy, to stabilize the financial system, to make sure that we’re creating jobs again instead of losing them, and in the midst of all that we’ve also had the oil spill, we’ve also had two wars, we’ve also had a pandemic, H1N1, that we had to manage, and a whole host of other issues. What has been gratifying is the fact that the economy now is starting to stabilize and grow again, and what’s been satisfying is seeing how resilient the American people are. As much as you said it’s been tough for me, the truth is, it’s not tough for me; you know I’ve got people, pundits on the news who may say things about me.”

Obama’s  interview with The View will air on Thursday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m. ET.

  1. IF OBAMA WAS A WHITE MAN COMMENTS LIKE HE SHOULD BE RUNNING THE COUNTRY AND NOT ON THE VIEW WOULD NOT BE SAID. BUT BECAUSE HE IS ACKNOWLEDGED AS A BLACK MAN HE IS CONSTANTLY PUT UNDER SCRUTINY FOR EVERY MOVE HE MAKES. WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER AND MAYBE WE CAN GROW BETTER AS A PEOPLE.

  2. I did not know it was a crime for the President of the United States of America to do interviews!! I learn something new everyday! Wow, I guess that speaking to the American people via an interview is a bad thing, but the same people would be complaining if he was not taking interviews. Saying that he needs to connect with the American people. I swear than make cannot do the SIMPLIST things without people whining. I still cannot get over the fact people are tripping over him doing an interview. Which by the way had tons of people tunning in, looks like he got what he wanted. Which was talk to women/american people!

  3. There is nothing wrong with him going on the view. I love how he still makes time for his family enough though he was a demanding position. There are so many parents who are so career driven that they don’t make time for their families. He’s still the president whether he’s sitting at the office or sitting on the set of the view.

  4. Every time Elizabeth opens her mouth, I want to smack her. President Obama did it for me though when he shut her down about the job crisis. It didn’t even seem like she knew what she was talking about (as usual). She just heard someone else say it and like the parrot she is, repeated it without checking the facts.

  5. Why shouldn’t he be talking on the view Julie? that is like saying you shouldn’t be up here stating ur opinion. George Bush vacationed more than he stayed in White House……….do you have anything to say about that? No amount of running this messed up economy and country gonna straighten it out. You cant change what the Bible said would happen anyway. I am for Obama and his family enjoying themselves, they look wonderful. Sasha doesn’t look chubby here, she look as if she is gonna be taller than Malia.

      • Yaw know there’s different rules for our folks then those folks.LOL I support President Obama 100% and I believe he’s doing a terrific considering how the country was left from the previous Prez.

  6. I rather have him communicating with the American people than sitting in his office. I can’t see what he’s doing in there. He could be playing Farmville for all I know. The task of the president is to lead and delegate tasks. Whether he’s in the Oval office, with his kids, surveying the oil spill, he is ALWAYS the president!

  7. lol lol Julie is funny!! How the hell you gone come on a site that’s viewed by mostly black ppl and try to talk slick about the president…

  8. What does being on The View have to do with running the country??? Does running the country require a seat at the Oval Office only???How ridiculous! Stop the Hate!

    • It’s called mult-tasking, lol. He is still running the country. President Clinton went on talk shows all the time. It’s a way to stay in touch with people and not hide behind closed doors.

    • oh puh-lease!! he knows he can’t sit in the white house all day and be disconnected from what is really going on with his people! you have to get out and get to them using the things that they are comfortable with. i bet elizabeth and her tacky butt would not have said a word if her her bush would have come on! and she would have been too giddy to speak if her other hero sarah palin had sat on the couch!! she works my last good nerve with her attitudes.
