UPDATED: IT’S OFFICIAL! TWINS FOR MARIAH AND NICK

It’s official! Nick and Mariah Carey are expecting twins! Nick announced the news on his radio show Rollin’ with Nick Cannon today:  “In order for my wife and I to have our life, we need to be up front and I need to be able to share things with you and be real,” Cannon, 30, said on his 92.3 Now radio show Thursday. “I didn’t even tell my wife I was gonna do this,” he admitted. “I’m probably gonna get yelled at for not getting permission…We are having twins!”

Nick says that the Obamas were the first to know of the happy news Click here to here him explain.

Last week, Nick Cannon laughed off rumors that he and Mariah are expecting twins.

He told Access Hollywood, “That [twin] rumor came from an interview Mariah did where she was talking about her Christmas album and how she’s been singing so much, and she referred to her stomach as ‘they,” Nick told Billy and Kit. “She said, like, ‘I hope they don’t hate Christmas.’ From there we heard all of these twin rumors.”

“But we want to be surprised,” he continues. “We were told that it’s going be one of the biggest surprises of your lifetime to see what the sex of the baby is, so, we’re trying to wait. But you never know.”

*Update: Here is a video of Nick confirming the happy news!

Wow what a great R&B music news story about the wonderful Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon and the great news that they are expecting twins. They really are a lovely couple and look so much in love. And Mariah Carey has given her fans so much joy with her wonderful music over the years. Mariah Carey`s music videos have been a delight too and so im really happy to see her finding the happiness in her personal life that she always craved and being blessed with two beautiful babies too.

  • Nik NIk December 16, 2010 at 8:52 pm

awwwwwwwwwwwwwww congrats on the babies. babies are a blessing from god i hope they are born healthy and have ten fingers and ten toes. i cant wait to see what they are going to name them.

  • luvbug December 16, 2010 at 8:19 pm

Congrats to Nick and his beautiful wife and many more beautiful babies after these two.

  • luvbug December 16, 2010 at 8:18 pm

Why is it that the woman is to old but neva the man? plzzzzzz……in Bibical days they were having babies in their 80′s. John Travolta wife is almost 50 and she had a son. If God bless you to have a child, then that is what he intends for you to do.

    • Victoria December 17, 2010 at 12:01 am

Luvbug it’s just the (obviously unfair) double standard that comes with being a woman. If a man dates a woman younger than him then he’s a playa, if a woman does it she’s a cradle robber. If a woman decides to have a baby at 40 she’s too old if a man can get a woman pregnant at 50 on up, he’s a playa and still got “it”.

    • Victoria December 17, 2010 at 12:05 am

It’s just the society we live in as of right now, such stupid double standards. If a man dates a younger woman he’s a playa, if a woman dates a younger man she’s a cradle robber and a “cougar” (BTW I’m so sick of that damn word). If a woman decides to have a baby at 40 she’s “too old”, while a man who is of 50 and up can impregnate a woman, and be considered a playa and that they still got “it”.

  • keverno December 16, 2010 at 3:05 pm

Hopefully, it’s boy & girl twins so she can be done. I can see already she is going to have to work extremely hard to get that baby weight off.

    • AJA December 17, 2010 at 12:58 am

To answer your question, it’s biology, not society, that make it possible for men to have kids into old age. Like seriously. And the consensus around Hollywood is pretty much that Kelly Preston wore a prosthetic belly to appear pregnant and the child is not biologically hers. If you don’t believe me just google Kelly Preston fake pregnancy.

  • LaTanya December 16, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Lord two little mimi’s running around (no matter the sex) those are going to be some spoiled kids. I’m happy for the both of them! If it’s one girl or two that child is going to have so much Hello Kitty stuff it’s ridiculous….lol.

  • Guyanese Waters December 16, 2010 at 2:53 pm

Congrats from Guyana to Mariah and Nick…blessings after heartbreak

  • gtsa December 16, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Congrats on the twin news! How exciting. Can’t wait to see them. Older moms tend to “twin” more often than younger due to age factor alone, so twins doesn’t auto mean invitro, but so what if they went that route.

  • BrwnSantiLove December 16, 2010 at 4:47 am

Dang quite playing around. Either she is or isn’t. Its likely she is though. With fertilization technology and also the fact she’s over 40, women in that rage have higher chance of twins

  • c.louise December 16, 2010 at 2:44 am

U guys are funny….lmao!!! Congrats Nick and Mariah

  • universitychick December 15, 2010 at 9:47 pm

    duh, test tube babies….

  • Gail December 15, 2010 at 8:21 pm

The late Elizabeth Edwards had her son at the age of 51. She was 61 when she died last week her son is 10.

    • Lauryn December 15, 2010 at 9:48 pm

So what is your point? You can have a baby at 16 or 25 and died the folowing year. Young people can died early too, just look at what happened to the late singer, Aaliyah, she died at 23 yr old.

You can be an older parent and nothing happens to you. My aunt had a baby at 37 and the child is 11 and both mom and child are healthy. Sarah Chapman and the mother of his twins were both 38 when they gave birth to the twins and Chance. Actress Garielle Beauvais had her twins in her early forties and she is healthy, beautiful and don’t look a day past 30. You just have to take care of your self, health and lookwise and pray, and you will be fine.

    • LBoogie916 December 16, 2010 at 8:58 am

My stepsister had her first child at age 15 and her second at 26. She died of a massive heart attack at age 28. I’m trying to understand your point.

      • Lauryn December 16, 2010 at 2:30 pm

The person above commented that just because you are older and have a child that it is elfish and that you will die soon. I was trying to explain to her that you can be young and have child and die also. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AGE. Just because you are older, you can still live a long life. It is really up to God. You understand now???

        • LBoogie916 December 16, 2010 at 4:27 pm

Yes Lauryn (we share a name), I was speaking to the person above. I totally agree with you. I just shared a personal experience with him/her so they can understand their view is not always the case. My sister did not know she was gonna die 13 years after having her first child and 2 years after her second, she was 28. Does that make my stepsister selfish? She was the best mother she could be until she died.

  • sharon December 15, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Mariah nor Nick will ever unveil the truth that they used invitro. If u look at her per announcements pic u can tell she was on hormone injections. sherley, your right most invitro ends up w/ multiples… just ask jlo. I wish them the best ..

    • Victoria December 15, 2010 at 11:57 pm

Yeah to restart her cycles after she had the miscarriage and had to have two surgeries. Contrary to popular belief not everyone needs invitro to have kids, and not every woman who is 40 needs help to get pregnant. I’ve known plenty of women who weren’t trying to get pregnant, but did get pregnant at 40, and they obviously didn’t spend thousands of dollars for treatments.

      • Victoria December 16, 2010 at 12:12 am

In the female body, the hormone progesterone is necessary to initiate the proper development of uterine structures and has an important role in breast development and functioning, it also affect lactation during pregnancy. Doctors do pescribe it for women who are experiencing Amenorrhea, which is not having a period.

    • lilkunta December 17, 2010 at 2:00 am

@sharon: jennifer said her twins were genetic bc her paternal aunt is a twin.

brad pitt says his twins are genetic bc his sister has twin girls.

  • Christian December 15, 2010 at 4:27 pm

Whew, twins! Nick handled his business, didn’t he? Well, congrats to the happy couple. I hope the babies are healthy and well.

    • Sherley December 15, 2010 at 4:52 pm

I dont know about Nick handling his business but most couples who use invitro end up w/multiples.

Good luck to them..twice the joy.

  • LisaLisa December 15, 2010 at 2:56 pm

It must be twins because she does not have one round bump, she is carrying all over which is typical with twins.

  • scorpio4lyfe December 15, 2010 at 2:40 pm

    whateva…

  • LaTanya December 15, 2010 at 2:22 pm

They have the excitement of first time parenthood….I’m happy for them!

  • goodness December 15, 2010 at 2:17 pm

he n mariah need to get over themselves, that baby or babies r gonna have 2 legs, 2 hands, 10 fingers n toes like everyone else kids, what the heck with all these secrets…..boo!

    • ddcms December 15, 2010 at 4:25 pm

You’re right. They’re child is not going to be any more important than anyone else’s child. However, if that’s how most people feel, why are they constantly asking them if they’re having twins? Maybe the media needs to get out of her uterus and just wait and see.

      • goodness December 15, 2010 at 6:35 pm

correction…..”SHE” put the media in her uterus, she could have stayed low key until she had “IT”

        • InnocentCorruption203 December 15, 2010 at 10:38 pm

I see where you are coming from but I also respectfully disagree. For a couple of years pregnancy rumors have been portrayed in the media about Mariah due to her weight gain. She didn’t have to confirm or deny, but the rumors where out there. As the public we were not aware of her previous miscarriage until recently when she revealed that information. Though unaware of the previous pregnancy the rumors presisted until she finally confirmed this current pregnancy. Living in this day in age if the media believes you are “gaining weight” or if you are married they put out rumors of being pregnant. For example Beyonce is consistanly rumored to be pregnant, though she has never come out and said she was. Matter of fact she continues to dismiss the rumors and they continue to reappear. So its not necessarily always the celebs fault for conception rumors. We need to accept that as a society we are interested in the lives of celebrities, the media will capitalize on this by providing us with information that we want to hear whether the information is true or not is for us to decipher and or the celebs to confirm.

        • Victoria December 16, 2010 at 12:03 am

Seeing as she has a Christmas album out that she was promoting, how was she going to “avoid” the media and their questions??? And in you and that other person’s opinion, her child won’t be more important than anyone else’s but it most certainly be KNOWN to people all around in the world in alot of countries and YOURS WON’T, they probably just wanna keep some things to themselves, to be special to only them. And last it’s their kids and their business, anything that they don’t offer to the public, can’t be labled a secet or non-secret, we’re not their family or BFF’s.

        • Shania December 16, 2010 at 1:28 am

You are one nasty sumn or another, referring to someone’s child as an “it”. Very dehumanizing. How does someone with Mariah’s status stay “low key” for nine months?? Her keeping her business to her and her family and friends isnt considered a “secret”

  • Teri December 15, 2010 at 2:07 pm

Regardless of twins or not, I wish them the best and a healthy baby.

  • AJA December 15, 2010 at 1:35 pm

I hope it is twins. She’s too old to do it again.

    • Teri December 15, 2010 at 2:06 pm

Will all due respect, AJA, she is not too old. Women in their late 40′s and older have given birth. Yes, it is a bit riskier, but if the woman is in good health, there’s no reason why Mariah can’t have more later.

      • M'sgirl December 15, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Teri you are so right all women are different.

        • Teri December 15, 2010 at 3:54 pm

          M’sgirl, exactly!

      • AJA December 15, 2010 at 3:21 pm

Yeah, sure. Tell that to Halle Berry.

        • Teri December 15, 2010 at 3:52 pm

AJA, Halle B. is one person. What about the countless women her age that do get pregnant? Halle did have one child after the age of 40. You can be young and have infertility problems, can’t you?

          • ddcms December 15, 2010 at 4:23 pm

            @ Teri – indeed.

        • getalife! December 15, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Say it again Christian!!! I would rather be established and of advanced maternal again then to struggle trying to figure out whether I’m coming or going at the age of 25. Only HUMANS but an age of things….GOD says all things are possible through HIM!!

        • getalife! December 15, 2010 at 6:05 pm

I don’t think it matters HOW they conceived just that fact that they were blessed DOUBLE FOR THEIR TROUBLE!! I pray that their baby(ies) is/are healthy and strong with all limbs. All the negative and ignorant comments aren’t going to make or break them….GO MiMi and Nick…the more they talk about you the more BLESSED you’ll be!!

      • InnocentCorruption203 December 15, 2010 at 10:20 pm

I respectfully disagree. Its harder for a woman who are older than 35 to become pregnant, have a healthy pregnancies, and births. If it wasn’t an harder than inventro would be less expensive and or wouldn’t exist at all. It is possible for women to be pregnant as elderly as 70 with the assistance of doctors, but in my personal opinion the choice of becoming pregnant at an elderly age is selfish. Though elderly parents are considered to be “better parents” because they are not consumed by working to provide for the child, I feel its selfish to bring a child into the world knowing you won’t be around to raise he/she. So, is there such a thing as being “too old” yes I believe there is.

Recently births of children by women in their 40s has become more popular in society. Which I don’t discourage, these women have chosen to pursue careers and become established before procreating. I feel the decision is respectable. Congrats Mariah and Nick, I figured she was going to have twins! I can’t wait to see the cuties =)

        • Lauryn December 15, 2010 at 11:00 pm

I’m sorry but you are wrong. You can be young and give birth to a child and die from an accident, cancer, or natural causes. My sister in law was 26 when she got cancer and died. She left behind two kids. Was she selfish???? Was the young 20 year old woman selfish when she got killed and left behind a little girl, I saw on cnn new yesterday selfish cause she died and left behind a child??? YOU CAN DIE AT ANY AGE, EVEN AT A YOUNG AGE. A woman in her 40′s an out live a 25, it really is up to God!

As far as invitro, do your research. It isn’t just older women using it (even though a woman can give birth naturally in her late 30′s and 40′s) but it is also younger women using it. It has nothing to do with age dear. It really depends on the woman body. A young 24 woman at my job, is using invitro, because she had trouble concieving on her own.

          • lilkunta December 17, 2010 at 1:32 am

@teri: it isnt a bit riskerier, it is VERY RISKY. After 35 it is a bit risky, after 40 it is very risky, plus MC had a miscarriage 2 yrs ago.

@ LAURYN: YOU ARE WRONG. ASk your ob. After 35 fertility decreases. ALL PREGNANCIES AFTER #% ARE HIGH RISK.

Yes many celebs are doing it but they can. They earn $40,00 a week whereas the average person earns that in 1 whole year. Tey have the $ to afford them to be on bedrest for 2 months.

Yes I know that every day normal women over 35 andover 40 & over 45 have kids naturally, but those are all high risk pregnancies. It is a blessing that they survived and the baby survived.

            So lauryn, you are wrong.

        • Teri December 15, 2010 at 11:56 pm

@Innocent – It’s harder because older women’s ovulation cycle as they age is usually inconsistent because they are closer to menopause. Women are gifted with just so many eggs at birth. The older we get, the less eggs we have. However, many women have gotten pregnant (even during the change) and have given birth later in life.

I don’t have a problem with that because, just as others have stated, women later in life TEND to be more mature, know who they are, settled, financially stable, and have more wisdom to pass on to their child(ren). I’m not saying just because we are older, we are automatically a good candidate for having a child. Also, with advancements in technology, pregnancy is always a possibility and they’ve even handled problems in-utero when seen via ultrasound. There are no absolutes regardless of age, as so eloquently put by Lauryn.

        • LBoogie916 December 16, 2010 at 8:56 am

There’s a woman I know who gave up trying to conceive 20 years ago. This past September she gave birth to her first child at age 53 without help. Her pregnancy was unexpected and she found out late in her pregnancy because she was going through menopause at the time. Both mom and baby are doing very well. My grandmother had my aunt at age 41 and that was back in the ’80′s where there was less medical technology. 28 years later, grandma is still alive and kickiing. It’s all about the individual and God’s power.

          • AJA December 17, 2010 at 12:55 am

I don’t believe you at all.
