Oprah you will be missed! Most beautiful show ever today!
Actually, their heritage is not African. It is Indian. They share the same DNA as people from southern India (I think). My sister-inlaw is aboriginal, and my nephew is very involved with his culture. I also lived in New Zealand as well. I am familiar with both cultures. Humans have been terrible to each other regardless of culture or color of skin.
Unforutantely indigineous peoples have always been at the mercy of Europeans. Native Americans especially.
Most white people are racist? Are you kidding me?
You must be hanging out around the wrong white people then. Its racist of YOU to claim that most people of a certain race are a certain way. How would you feel if I said “Most black people are [insert negative adjective here]“?
I am white, and I am not racist. None of my family members are racist. None of my friends are racist. In fact, I have never even met a racist white individual. Please tell me, where do you live?
When I was a teenager, I went to a Catholic school with mostly hispanics and african americans. Me and my sister were literally the only white girls in school. And guess what? I have never encountered such racism in my whole life. The people there literally hated me JUST because I was white. Is that acceptable, in your opinion? Or…let me guess… reverse racism doesn’t exist, right? *rolls eyes*
I agree that racism still exists, but white people aren’t the ONLY racists out there. And for your information, white people aren’t the first or only people to keep slaves, to colonize other countries, or to start genocides. So really, I’m sick of people demonizing white people. Yes, we have done some horrible things in the past, but as i said before, we aren’t the first to do so! Slavery existed long before white people colonized America.
Also, where do you think white people got their slaves? They were SOLD to us by African people in exchange for weapons and other goods.
In history, White people have had white slaves, black people have had black slaves, asian people have had asian slaves, etc– get over it. White people are not evil, stop whining and playing the victim role when you are only the victim of your own ignorance.
Drawing a false equivalence between racism and so-called reverse racism makes everything you typed irrelevant. It’s a fairy tale. There is no comparison in the opposite direction in history to the evil and destruction white people have inflicted on populations of color. Africans are responisible for slavery? Oy vey. The only cliche you forgot to pull out your arse is “I never owned slaves, my family were immigrants, they never owned slaves!” Spare me.
So much anger develops when one feels judged or hated against, no?
Having felt this hate growing up, why don’t you be the first to put aside the anger and shed light on your own character, with love and understanding? Be HUMAN, not a color…. even when others haven’t found a way to be that yet, given THEIR experiences.
Are you really arguing that an Afr. Amer. has no right to say that “It’s a shame that most white people are racist”? C’mon lady! Look past the hate you received to the root of the problem.
As a woman of the upper social strata, I’m sure you could have mustered a little more perspective and much fewer harsh words.
awww they are soo adorable…
2 dam cute!
Hey sorry for the typos in my previous post.
I have been to Australia twice and it is quite an interesting country. As a black British woman coming from the UK, I thought I might encounter some kind of racial problems.
Stepping out into Sydney airport – I was shocked and thought I had landed in the States. The city has a strong cosmopolitan feeling. People were real nice on both my visits but at the same time I felt kind of weird all the stare that I got were actually from Asian people. Nobody bothered me in the least.
Aboriginals were not generally found in the main cities and when you did see them they were often in the poor areas, unemployed or entertaining tourists.
They tend to live on reserves just like native Americans.
One of the sadest things I found were that every city had a museum, and each had big displays commerating the discovery and landing in Australia. Whenever I would go to look at the Aboriginal section it was so small as though it was so insignificant. They have Jewish museums an holocaust memorials which are bigger than anything they commerate as aboriginal.
What I found is that Aboriginals are very proud of their culture, the only issue is being beaten down and being treated worst than all of the new imigrants to the country. In turn most of those moving to Australia turn a blind eye to what is happening.
Living in London I have met loads of Australians and they also seem quite nice but oblivious to the fact that the way the Aboriginals are treated is not right.
My overall opinion of Australia is that it is over rated – I found New Zealand so my more culturally satisfying because the people did not try to deny Maori culture and hide from the fact they (Maoris) were the first Islanders in New Zealand.
Australia is so devoid of culture – aboriginal culture is supressed.
Hope this give insight
Thanks for sharing! I’ve never been to Australia but I’ve been to New Zealand. Loved it there! The Kiwis were so nice and friendly, and I liked the way the Maori culture and language are weaved into New Zealand culture, not something set aside as different or only used for tourists. Aotearoa = New Zealand
They are so beautiful!
If you guys want to learn more about them, there’s a movie that came out a few years ago called “Rabbit Proof Fence”.
Thank you, melissalshawn, cuz I was just about to post the name of that movie! Yes, “Rabbit Proof Fence” was an excellent film- it’s not a documentary, mind you, but it does give a pretty accurate depiction of what happened to many, MANY Aboriginal people when the English arrived in Australia.
I saw that movie a few years ago, and it was extremely insightful about the Aboriginie people. For decades the Australian government systematically tried to “breed out” their Africaness.
they are so cute!!! they look like their related to oprah. now we know how her kids would have looked. cuteness!!
IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW HOW THE NATIVE AUSTRALIANS WERE TREATED READ THE BOOK FATAL SHORES BY ROBERT HUGHES. AND YES THEY ARE OF AFRICAN DESCENT THEY WERE TREATED WORST THAN BLACKS IN AMERICA AND THE SAD THING IS THAT THINGS HAVEN’T CHANGED MUCH FOR THEM
they basically have african ancestry and asian ancestry. the Australians like other white ppl conquering areas treat the locals like crap.
All humans on earth today have African ancestry! And yeah… all “white” people treat the locals like crap… get a grip on your own racial issues!
Yasmin, I don’t see it changing either. As long as a certain group of people have an infrastructure set up for them and by them, they have no motive to change. White supremacy works for them. They won’t admit it, but it does.
I hate to sound negative, but it hasn’t changed in over 400 years, and I, like you, don’t suspect it ever will. It’s better, but we sure have a long way to go.
those kids Oprah is holding have the prettiest hair color and skin tone. and yeah, the one on the right looks like he could be related to her. they are adorable.
As for Oprah Winfrey having no regrets for not having children, she actually had a baby when she was a teenager. He died after childbirth. So she doesn’t regret that that baby didn’t live?
Big Blue – I don’t know what her regrets are about the loss of her first child. I’m willing to bet it was very painful to her. I don’t recall her talking about that child very much, but I’m sure she doesn’t regret not having any children afterwards. That’s my take on it.
What a beautiful pic. These two aboriginal children are the cutest.
How cute are those babies! I first became interested in Aborigine culture when I saw a little black boy with a blond afro!0_o I later learned he was Aborigine. Very interesting, beautiful people.
Aww cute Aboriginie babies…Smh @ the Amber chick beibng pregnant again
Who are the LTTP Girls? Never heard of them. In those photos, they looked like … Need a Twix.
The Australian Aborigines are an interesting people. Not all of them have straight hair; some have curly hair. Not sure why some have blonde hair (the little kids sometimes have platinum blonde hair). It’s a very striking in combination with dark skin tones. Historically, they have been treated horribly.
Oprah so cooL! Those kids are beautifuL too! They have the most unique features. I need to do some research on them…im curious about their race and culture.
All humans have African ancestry!
They are so beautiful.
Haha…you said they remind you of Wayne Brady’s daughter. They remind me of her too!
On second glance, they also look like they could be Oprah’s grand babies. Adorable picture.
They are adorable, one of the best photos I’ve seen in a long time.
I kind of wanted to see Oprah have a child. She is leaving quite a legacy and her DNA needs to be passed on through the generations. The DNA stops with her. Wow.
I think she would have been a good mother.
I agree, Shayla, especially about Oprah’s DNA.
These children are beautiful so cute.
the aboriginal people of australia always fascinated me as well…i think those kids oprah holding are gorgeous
That’s so cool. I’m facinated with Aboriginal culture
